Settings for DayZ to get better frames

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a GTX 760 graphics card, an intel i5 4670k, 8gb of RAM, using windows 8.1 64 bit. I tend to get low frames in game at times especially in cities. Are there certain settings I should change that will increase frames but not impact my gameplay very much? Also, I am running it in 1920x1080.

Nope, it doesn't matter which settings you use in cities, its all about high CPU clocks. If your CPU isn't running at 5 GHz, then you will have a baaad time.

Clocking your cpu will likely burn your pc up anyway, I'd suggest buying one that can cope with the load rather then clocking one that weren't designed for it in the first place, it's better then having to replace your whole pc due to a burnout I think! Cheaper too.

Calling bullshit, i see that you have no knowledge. CPU oc is the only way to achieve more frames in the SA.

Calling what? Technical info if you'd be so kind.

It's a whole lot better to buy a cpu that can handle the load / IE also overlocking.

Then clocking a cpu to handle something it was not designed for.

You don't understand it. Theres no advantage between a i5 2500k @ 3 GHz or a i7 3970X @ 3 GHz. The Engine cant use all 12 Cores of the 3970X and it scales almost the same as the i5. I got a i7 2700k @ 5 GHz and theres almost a 30 FPS differnce from 3.5 to 5.

I understand quite readily, and you seem to miss the point of what I said two times in a row.

I never said overclocking was bad, I said that doing so to a CPU that can't handle the load is bad, and added that it's better to buy a cpu that can handle the load and overclocking.

If you oc a CPU without knowing what it can do, or try to clock one to a level it can't handle, you'll burn it out, and that's alot more costly then buying a CPU that can handle the abuse.

I've been running at 5.2GHz since January of 2011. My CPU still idles at ~25-30ºC.

Your rig is also quite a bit above the average judging by your signature, the average gamer does not even know what overclocking involves, and the ones that do, rarely have the cash available to keep things at a low temp.

This was my rig a year ago, now i got almost the same rig as Grimey.

I have the exact same setup as you. Here are what I have set so the quality is clear and pretty with a great framerate:

Not if you have or throw a decent cooler in. They're cheap. Plus that's a great gaming processor, no need to upgrade it.

that is not true at all. my cpu is clocked at 3.4ghz and i dont have any lag or framerate issues.

You actually can adjust several settings in dayz and your PC, still have it look good and be running between 30-40 in cities.. at least I can with my rig.

Which as you can see.. is not much (that pic got compressed so it does not look as good as it should)

Core2Duo 3.0ghz

8gb RAM

MSI 550ti 1gb

120gb SSD

I've got a i5 3570k at 3.4ghz aswell, I did run a setup with it at 4.5ghz, but noticed my frames just improved by two-three in exchange for 10-20 increase in temperature.

Some times clocking aint worth it, or simply aint working as intended.

 Specs are said CPU ^

 12gigs of ram.

 a gtx 760

Normal HD.

64bit win 7.

A Core2Duo!! That HAS to be bottle-necking your system, no? When I built my most recent PC I first got my GTX 660TI in the mail so I threw it in my old PC with a OC'd Core2Duo E8400 to see how it'd do and it literally ran no better than with the old HD 4850 in there. No improvement in games. Once I paired it with my 4670K it was worlds better.

Gotcha. I haven't OC'd my 4670K yet as games haven't really required it (and I'm a little lazy) but I likely will down the road. At Idle I run at ~23 degrees C and I forget at load but it's still quite low so there's surely room for OC. I never care to go too high though, I'd likely go to 4.5Ghz and call it good.

I'd like to OC my CPU, I just don't have the proper knowledge/balls to attempt it myself... On the other hand, I don't want to pay someone to do it for me (yeah yeah greedy me lol)...

LOL.. of course it is! But Im surprised at what I can get out of it.. I play a lot of different PC games and dont tend to have an issue with really any of them save Arma 3 multiplayer.. but that may have changed since patches, I just gave up on it with 10fps per game.

I really am learning a lot in the process which was another reason why I went budget build besides not wanting to spend too much cash I wanted to learn along the way and upgrade frequently. Then I had a baby. No upgrades in my near future.. LOL.

Funny side note, my PC mobo, HDD and case used to belong to a fairly well known actor here in the US. The data was all there when I bought it. I still laugh when I look at it sometimes. This planet sure can be small.

Uh, you DO NOT need to overclock your PC to 5.0Ghz to run DayZ.  Optimization hasn't even happened and this game is using at most 2 cores.

That just goes to show you how broken DayZ currently is: you get the same frame rate as me in cities, yet in Arma 3 MP I get 60-90 frames per second. In DayZ it makes no difference whether I set everything to maximum or minimum in a city, I still get the same 30-40 frames per second.

Yeah I finally bought ArmA 3 last weekend during the sale. I can run pretty much on Ultra with ~50fps. I'm set pretty high in DayZ now but it'd be nice to be able to max out. It's definitely gotten better since the last updated or two though.

Im still amazed you manage to get 5.2 out of that cpu lol shit i use a liquid cooling rig and a portable aircon blasting at my pc and i dont take my 4770k anywhere near that high .( then again standard  air temps here are around the 40 c so its rather hot and i am a sissy i know i can get 5ghz out of mine but i just hold back lol ...
