DesertSage 15 Posted February 24, 2014 Today is the day I'll remember for the rest of my life, no i didn't have sex, no i didn't lose a relative, but I was killed immediately at spawning. I was so surprised and thought I got glitched somehow. I spawned in after taking my lunch break (So people to think I was ghosting, nah i aint bout dat lyfe), I last left off in the construction site before entering Berenzino, whilst logging in my character did the usual reload noises and all that. 7 Seconds into being on the server I get killed. So basically what i'm asking is if it is possible for you to be immortal whilst first logging in but you become mortal again once you move (any type of movement). Probs be a lot of people against this but whateber puttin in my suggestion dunt hurt. i dunno if this is doable but it would be nice to see this implemented . bioned 36 Posted February 24, 2014 even though i cant agree to your point more probably no because dayz is all about being realistic and immortal people arent real
Chaingunfighter 917 Posted February 24, 2014 (edited) As annoying as spawn death is, I don't know that I can vouch for this. I personally would like it but I know it would still break the immersion at the same time. Edited February 24, 2014 by Chaingunfighter
DesertSage 15 Posted February 24, 2014 very true, very true. I was thinking about it breaking realism as well but thought I might of just put this in. im not another angry kid that cries when losing all his gear. I find it funny when it happens and laugh at repeating the same cycle.
jamiereid_wow@hotmail.co.uk 46 Posted February 24, 2014 Its a good idea, but im afraid of people somehow exploiting the timer of a spawn shield to make it last indefinitely. No disrespect, but you really shouldn't have logged out in a construction site, especially the Berezino one as it can be a bandit hotspot. Log out in a non-urban area next time whenever you can. TEST_SUBJECT_83 465 Posted February 24, 2014 Find better places to log. Thats all :)
mithrawndo 166 Posted February 24, 2014 I once had someone log in right in front of me. I felt sorry for them, so I reached for the caps lock key and told them to walk out of the room. They spun like a top and blew my face off. That was the last time I will ever give anyone a chance if they log in on front of me.
DesertSage 15 Posted February 24, 2014 yeah, better places to log out are the answer for now.
Korsbaek 1778 Posted February 24, 2014 Imagine logging in on the Elektro firestation and just standing there, you know, being immortal because you haven't moved in an hour...
DesertSage 15 Posted February 24, 2014 if you mean someone being on the firestation just up there shooting. then with the person rotating around, moving, he would become mortal again.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted February 24, 2014 (edited) Remember, your character is still in-game for 30 seconds after you log out. It's always wise to hide somewhere when you log out to avoid 'unfair' deaths! I usually hide in a bush or tree a little ways away from whatever town I've been in Edited February 24, 2014 by Mos1ey
jfn3000 10 Posted February 24, 2014 I do like this idea. For this particular game, I don't think invulnerable until moving would work, because you could literally not touch anything and just spy. Information is too powerful in this game for that. But if it was a fixed spawn timer, like 5-10 s, that could work. The biggest issue is what you're allowed to do while invincible and in control of your character. Even if only move and look, you could still game the system. But it is also an issue that you can fully log in to those around you before your client reflects that. Getting killed when you still have the black loading screen isn't any fun. JuX 72 Posted February 24, 2014 That is why you logout in well concealed locations and if server resets get out of poor location on low populated servers. Imagine being on low ammunition and you shoot your last bullets on connecting guy, just to find out he has spawn protection. Also that is why they added the slowly recovering vision on loading so people can't instantly ghost someone as they connect. If you have ever seen the buggy hitboxes of hills and trees you would know the invisible force fields are annoying and often gets you killed.

If we can see it, we can shoot it.Ps- this also means people can literally just camp on you and wait for you to move even slightly so they can pack you full of lead. At any rate this is a bad idea as well as nearly useless. Edited February 24, 2014 by bobotype3334

Getting killed when you still have the black loading screen isn't any fun.Not a timed thing either, then you either have a 10 second Ubercharge with which to hunt down the bandit and punch him to death and take his gun, or you have bandits waiting out the 10 seconds on a fresh spawn and then getting him. If you make the timer longer, you make invincible Bambi Bilboas/very patient bandits, and if you make the timer shorter that's just a little longer wait for a bandit's fresh meat. Wolfguarde 108 Posted February 24, 2014 Major flaw in this idea: It means that someone who combat logs/disconnects and reconnects to find someone in front of them has the first shot - no matter what. It's simply not possible to balance a mechanic like this. Finding yourself a safe place to log out/spawn in is your own responsibility - as it should be, in my opinion. There's no way to mitigate potential death on login aside from camouflage or deserting populated areas before logging out. Anything they add in the code could be exploited, and would eventually be removed/require additional unnecessary coding in order to balance.

harley001 315 Posted February 25, 2014 It happens. It's a VERY VERY rare chance . Anyways if you die while spawning in you didn't have anything on you anyway. And if you die while re-logging in....choose where you log out better. Its very, very, very unlikely that by shear chance someone saw you logging in if you had a spot that was even average. Also I don't think a shield will be a good ideal. If the shield is active until you move then it can easily be abused. You can have a man with a shield in the center of electro as bandit bait. Also what if I sneak up on someone who happened to spawn/log in. I can't hold him up and he will probably just dc.
