You make a left-handed option in the character development menu.

Pfffft, It will cause more trouble than needed, after all the M4 would have bullets clipping through the face, same with SKS, mosin will need totally new animations and really left handers in real life just have to shoot with their right hand in a lot of militarys

This. Mostly only newer weapons are built to be used by left and rigt handers like the  G36 f.e.

If you haven't noticed a lot of weapons have brass deflectors to not make this happen...if it's only the animation that has to be redone for bolt action rifles it would be less of a problem but you would also have to make them hold the weapon in the right way. I'd rather have them change how players move because it looks more like they have a pain in the lower back.

Is this to help when the gun is on the "wrong" side aiming round a corner? Because I remember a game where you could change stance so it swapped sides. Maybe a feature like that could be good aswell, so we can change it on the fly. Could pick a native in toon menu then, have an accuracy debuff if using your non native stance :)

I believe you're thinking of APB: Reloaded. While it was very functional and easy to use, as well as giving you an advantage, it was very arcade-y.

For the same reason this hasnt been made in ANY of the Arma games, it wont be made here.
It will require new animations for EVERY single weapon and player interaction with these, and this is not something BI should be "wasting" time on, it adds nothing to the game tbh.

They chose not to do it for any of the Arma games, so im quite confident it wont happen in DayZ tbh.

However, it would be damn delicious to get the stances from Arma 3, so we can swap weapon side, to better protect ourselves, looking around corners.

But it really isnt needed to put left handed animations into the game, considering the amount of work vs. the end result tbh.

Even as a left-handed person I'm not for having left-handed avatars - would much rather time and effort was spent in other areas.

Which actually works out a bit better for a left-handed person. When a left-handed person holds a longarm such as a rifle the same way as a right-handed person would they will potentially have slightly better control over the weapon as their left-hand will have greater motor control than their right. In essence the dominant left-hand will stop the muzzle moving around so much.

This is the sort of feature to add once everything else is finished. This would be so much work, for so little gain, that the dev team could otherwise use on things which will add content to the game. Left handedness would be nice, sure, but it doesn't actually add substance.

I am left handed but I have used my right hand on the mouse ever since 1991 so having the weapon on the left side, would be totally wrong for me. The reason most games don't have left hand option is just because of that, most left handed people use the mouse with their right hand.

Modern rifles are made to allow for left-handed shooting no matter if you're left-handed or not, and military actually teach soldiers to shoot both ways (new recruits learn to shoot with their main hand at first, but higher military training usually involves learning to shoot with either side). This would be a sweet addition to the game. Casings and brass shrapnel hitting your face is prevented using shooting glasses.

ghost recon online has this

(and this swapping is nearly the only good thing there... ;) )

Maybe not for rifles, but the baseball bat and the axe are left handed even currently. I'm not left handed but I see how it would make your character more unique and more like yourself.

In a way that makes sense...i also found out when i use a rifle left handed i have better control of the muzzle because i have better control over my right arm. But it still is quite tiring to hold it the other way all the time because you're not used to it.
