PhillyT 554 Posted February 22, 2014 So it has been a month since our last shotgun discussion and I figured we should look back since the last patch tightened up spread, particularly for the sawed off. I am still hearing stories about how poorly they do. First a story of shotgun awesomeness: Yesterday I was practicing a bit with the shotguns (having been gunned down in a failed attempt to be friendly). I tried to talk to and eventually killed a guy with two rounds from the full length shotgun at the construction site in Berezino (after trying to talk to him for a minute and a half and having him pull his SKS). I then moved to the hospital area where I killed an axe wielding nutbag. Last night I meet up with my buddy, who watched the Berezino downtown with his sniper rifle while I bird dogged my way towards him (we spawned at different ends of town. While making my way behind the buildings near the lumber yard, I spotted two fully gear M4 players. One went into the piano building near the garment factory, the other went into that little green and red house next to industrial wall and appeared to be sorting gear. My friend couldn't get line of sight on the house so was moving positions. I killed a zombie, went south to the other piano building to wait for my friend to get a good spot, and eventually headed back out (I didn't really want to risk getting killed by two M4 bandits). When I went back, the gear sorting guy was still there and the other appeared to be in the industrial area. I figured I would take the risk, pulled my sawed off, and made my way to the house. I dumped two rounds into him at around ran off behind the nearby wall, waiting for his partner. I wasn't sure of the result, but assumed he was dead or dying. Sure enough, his buddy came flying in and ran into the back bedroom, pointing his M4 at the door and waiting. For three minutes. My buddy, from his hill, still couldn't get a look at them (this is a good spot to admit he was watching the wrong green and red house which explained a lot). I finally moved closer with my SKS, hoping to just get a headshot through a back window, but none were clear. I swapped to my sawed off, moved to the window to his left, and dumped a single shot into him at 6m. Killing him. So really, this idea that shotguns don't work seems odd. Have you used the shotgun since the most recent patch when they tightened up the spread? The information: So the improvements to sawed off shotguns is immense. Taking the same space as pistols in your pack (1x4 rather than 2x2), combined with being the most lethal weapon under 10m makes them ace for town level warfare, though I suggest you have at least two speed loaders in those cases though. Keep two loose shells in the gun, then reload through the two speed loaders. If the 6 rounds aren't enough break off the fight to reload those and come back for another 6 round shock attack. Also, in most cases, you can fire from the hip, but if you want maximum lethality, aim down the barrel. Sounds strange, since you would think it would be fine to just shoot from 3PP on a shotgun, but trust me, flip it around and shoot normal.
Slyguy65 499 Posted February 22, 2014 (edited) Here is what I learned from shotguns, when they are sawed off they tend to be less effective in general. Normal shotgun I seen people one hit KO, from like 20m away, while point blank sawed off can do hardly any damage to body near point blank. ALSO, most people don't know about the T button for guns which switches fire modes, for the shotgun it lets you fire both shots at the same time there is no notification to know which is toggled for now so you just have to remember. With a mixture of some firing both shots, others using sawed off and others using normal, its easy to see how confusion exists on its effectiveness. PhillyT 554 Posted February 22, 2014 The regular shotgun is much more effective at range, but the portability of the sawed off makes it a winner to me. I killed 6 people yesterday using the sawed off at ranges between 15m and 1m. Two shots killed everytime.

Edit i do aim high center chest so some of the spread hits the head it has worked for me even against fully mil kitted guys in the 5 to 15m range.. PhillyT 554 Posted February 22, 2014 I normally dump two rounds as a matter of course (and never at the same time). If you aim for the legs, it is an instant leg break, which can be useful. We seem to be having similar results SoulFirez.

I stalked a guy for 10 min declared myself he swung straight around i gave him both barrels and someone stepped from the building behind him and gave me auto m4 fire at 20 m .. Dont know if he was a team member and they were teamspeak talking and meeting up or another random but being caught no ammo in gun i started 1 shot attempts and they worked its kinda delayed knockout so the first was scary.. Yeah if they run when i declare myself i go the low shot to hit the legs very effective also....

PhillyT 554 Posted February 22, 2014 If your shotgun is empty and you hit reload, a speed loader will load in.
Deathlove 2286 Posted February 22, 2014 They need better shot guns all together for me to even considering calling them awesome. Military/swat/police shotguns need to be available. The current shotgun is not the best for combat. We need some 12 gauge pump action and round Tommy gun types.
PhillyT 554 Posted February 22, 2014 Probably will be better, but the sawed off has the rule of cool so wins.
Deathlove 2286 Posted February 22, 2014 I expect to see a couple of cop and bullpulp shotgun types before everything is written in stone no matter how rare they are.
enforcer1975 1111 Posted February 22, 2014 KS-23 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KS-23 or Saiga 12 would be great, don't need to much western stuff.

enforcer1975 1111 Posted February 22, 2014 I imagine the Saiga would be RARE considering it can hold allot of rounds for the gun. Legal status[edit]In Russia this shotgun can be relatively simply obtained, requiring only a "smoothbore-gun license" (which is relatively easy to obtain, compared to a "rifle license" that requires a five-year period of owning a smoothbore gun and a hunting permit).[4]In the US states of California and New York, as configured from the factory, it can be classified as an "assault weapon", as it is a semiautomatic shotgun with the ability to accept a detachable magazine. However, if a magazine lock that only allows the magazine to be removed by use of a tool is installed, it is no longer classified as such, as its previously detachable magazine is then rendered a fixed magazine.[5] Users[edit]

irishroy 1347 Posted February 22, 2014 (edited) ,Oh my god.Guys. I think:People, like me (and maybe PhillieT, SoulFirez, too) don't just go for the "use" and the bare "stats" of a gun.Choosing a gun, which has style, gives a certain feeling and is not too bad at the same time is just the thing to do (for me). So i would always prefer a double barreled over a new, modern pump-action-shotgun.(Though i have to admit, a NeoStead 2000 and UTS-15 look pretty nice) Edited February 22, 2014 by irishroy
e00c 84 Posted February 22, 2014 I made my first sawed off shotgun last night. I've yet to test it on anyone yet, I just love going through towns firing it off with it's huge artillery type sound effects! It craps everybody up. ha!
Zoridium JackL 16 Posted February 22, 2014 I love sawn-offs in general (I'm a mad max kinda guy, so sue me), and it's my go to secondary (because the best secondary is a primary) in DayZ, my only complaint is that to carry it I need 4 horizontal slots, which means that since I use the improvised courier bag and I can't rotate it I need to wear a vest in order to fit it, which I hate because it makes me look far too militant.
dallas 5195 Posted February 22, 2014 I don't mind rare spawn top tier LEO/Combat shotguns, but I'd rather seem more hunting shotguns with limited magazine capacity. I'd also love to be able to decide which part of the shotgun to cut down.
