I've been waiting for the AK family of weapons. I personally am a fan of that platform IRL over the M4 Swiss army knife.

I hope the ballistics reflect the 7.69x 39's power along with its short comings and the 5.45's inbetween status

Rocket said yesterday the "AK" was close to completion, but he wasn't specific on specific model or timing.  I'm assuming it's the AK-74M.

It's a SA page!

It's also a Wiki page that anyone can edit. I would stick to reading the patch notes here to see what is currently ingame and what is coming up.

Maybe we'll get lucky and see the AK-74m and Ruger 10/22 in the same patch, then! They have had the model completed for the AK-74m for quite awhile, they were using it before the offical Alpha release in videos and screenshots, and they also have the Ruger 10/22 model completed (they've released screenshots of it in-game already).

To be honest id prefer the Sig Sauer ARs and pistol models to make it in. They are pretty good brand of guns and its made by the freaking Swiss. So that place is allot closer than the USA anyways.

It's a SA page!

A lot of the old Mod wikis have simply rebranded as SA without pulling out any info. I'd assume that their thinking is that the SA will include everything from the Mod eventually. Unfortunately it makes them less than helpfull ATM.

Considering the SKS isn't reflecting that power if the person is wearing a shirt with a can of tuna, I don't think you'll get the stopping power you want.

I understand the 7.62x39mm can over penetrate, leaving not as bad a wound as a tumbled 5.56, but they really need to work on the ballistics in this game. No one should take 5 shots to the chest with an SKS / AK rifle without Level 3 body armor on top of steel trauma plates.

EDIT: If this were real life, I may take an AK platform over the stock M4 because of rugged reliability rather than accuracy. HOWEVER, some of the newer AR style rifles, like the HK 416, Barrett M468 and LWRC M6A2 all use a gas piston system, giving the great accuracy and performance and require far less maintenance.

Old style AK models are indestructable. They work too good almost. I would figure they would be more plentiful in Russia. M4 is a decent gun irl, but the AK calls it a girly-man as every tiny piece of grit is a possible jam opportunity for it.

Well, the 7,62x39 is already in the game, and seems accurate-ish. Shouldn't be THAT much work to put in an AK that uses it. I know most military forces world wide have moved on to smaller caliber AK's, but since the round is already in there, why not have another weapon for it?

Reliability isn't much of an issue, all modern guns are pretty damn reliable, including the AK and M4/AR-15 families. They shouldn't show any practical difference in reliability in the game, IMO, other than maybe the AK losing slightly less accuracy than the AR's when really, really damaged.

Ok I just edited that wiki so it doesn't confuse players.

Some assmaster said it was in the Standalone. It isn't...yet.

This reputation was earned in the rifle's debut in Vietnam. It isn't 1960, anymore. I've handled dozens of M's and AR's and jamming is a rarity that can almost always be blamed on user error. M4 is more than "decent" - it kicks the shit out of the AK particularly in terms of accuracy.

Oh god. I'm dying to get an AK. Best weapon in the world.

All they need now is a Makarov-PM
