Rocket @ Eurogamer stream @ 1:31:51

Asked, if ruined items will be repairable.

Dean Hall replies that you will improve your skill passively to repair more and more stuff in badlier conditon!

That's what I wanted to hear!

Edit:

By rolling through the replies I recognized some female associated pics.

Didn't check if gender was marked in the profiles and didn't want to stalk.

So my question would be: if you are pro character progression, which sex are you?

p.S.: I'm studying sociology so call it a professional question ^^

Edit2: Can anyone tell approximate % of male/female DayZ players?

yes....it feels like my dream is coming true almost...we shall see just how in depth it becomes, whether books play a role in "learning" and whether or not this skyrim like progression works for other things like cooking.

He already said that on Sacriel's stream about a week ago, where he also said (I don't remember if he said that yesterday or not though) that the skill progress (in lack of a better term at the moment) you make is going to reset when you die.

Im all for improved skill progression. Maybe crap like firing guns over longer periods of time improve accuracy and marksmanship. Stuff like that or cooking more makes you a better cook with foods.

Reset on death this is an interesting development indeed and clans requiring more then the most guns and ammo.

Reset after death? If he decides to make skill progression permanent, it will deter cheaters because most people will not want to lose hundreds of hours of compiled skills...Shit, I've been lobbying for this for months now

This is good news for myself and others who wanted passive skill increases that make you value your character's life more, assuming they are erased entirely upon death. Rocket has mentioned this multiple times, going right back to the dev diary videos long before release, I tried telling the nay-sayers but they wouldn't listen.

They already have this kind of survival stuff set up with Nether and skill points. You can get allot of good stuff over time but the moment you die skills and player lvl reset.

That said im really excited to see how these passive skill designs will function over time and how you will know how exactly skilled you are at certain traits.

They NEED to add a stealth trait if there going to do it. Would make stealthing around in broad daylight in zombie areas allot nicer.

Nothing else should be expected!

This reminds me of Project Zomboid.

Which is a good thing.

Interesting. It might push some people out of the big cities, too. Safer to wander the north/central parts of the map, develop skills for a little while before heading to the heavy combat areas, at least for lone wolf/small group players. People might be more risk averse with a highly skilled character, too.

I think it's really awesome that one can build up a characters skills over time. I wanted suggest something. Each person, as an adult, as a skillset they have already built up over time. What if each new spawn character was given a ranom skillset (not upgradeable), that gave them an instant access to certain advanced skills.

-Mechanic (building cars and helicopters)

-Medic/Doctor (can do more advanced medical applications)

-Hunter/Trapper (can create traps for animals/people, build fires with 2 stones or 2 sticks and no matches, make bow/arrows from sticks and rope and a knife, etc....)

-Seamstress (can fix any and all clothing with sewing kit)
-Gunsmith (guns should be found mostly badly damaged/ruined and he can repair them)

-Architect (can create structures) [not sure about this one]

I like the idea, and I can foresee an un-intended consequence: skilled players jumping off of cliffs and skyscrapers to re-spawn as a player of their choice (already happens when some players want a better spawn location.).

Should we have a discussion about a suicide penalty?

Didn't check if gender was marked in the profiles and didn't want to stalk.

So my question would be: if you are pro character progression, which sex are you?

p.S.: I'm studying sociology so call it a professional question ^^

Edit2: Can anyone tell approximate % of male/female DayZ players?

Thats very very good especially for hard to find items like stab vest and press vest. I just hope it will include all items not just select few like we have now.

No, no one can tell you the what the approximate % of females is in DayZ. No one on the forums anyway.

I don't remember if you have to register which gender you are when you create a steam account, but if you do - the only ones who could possibly answer that question somewhat correctly is someone handling statistics over at steam.
