UPDATE 2 at this link  :D

I am a mute person, as in i can't talk at all as i have no voice. So my question is, how will i go about playing this game as i can't talk to people. The other day i was running around in some small village not to far from devils, and i heard someone tell me to stop and don't turn around. I did, i dropped my axe, my backpack. Then this person ask me to reply to him, so i typed i could not speak and would be using text, and before i knew it the bastard shot me and said "stop lying"

And to day i was at the far east air port and two people with rifles ran just in front of me without noticing me sitting in a bush. So i typed "hey please stop" And ofc they would not do it, and i sort of felt i had to take them down, but before i could i 3rd player came and told them in voice to stop and lay down... guess what... they both did with in a couple of sec. I just slowly backed up from there and left the area.

So i guess maybe what i am asking, is there really a future for a mute girl in the game?

I think it will be hard for you, for sure. I don't think people pay as much attention to the text as they do to someone talking.

As for the ass shooting you - he was just an ass... probably just a kid.

I'm going to say yes but it will depend heavily on the players you interact with.

Also don't be surprised, female characters tend to attract more attention in every video game and in MMOs there are so many men that play females, say they are females but claim they don't have a mic. They even go so far as to hit on people or whatever so their clanmates/friends or whatever will be nice and will babysit/gear them.

The general rule for most people is that you're a man while on the internet until you prove otherwise.

Personally I could care less if you're a man or a woman behind the monitor. If I stop you I'm still going to tell you to drop all your clothes and your pack - but don't worry I've never killed anyone who complied - even if they didn't have a mic. Try the famous wiggle with your hands up, its a generally accepted form of nonverbal communication.

Thats sad, because being able to verbally communicate is a huge part in the game. Whether its in teamspeak or in direct comms in the game, most people expect it- even if its just to taunt your victim or defy your assailant.

I suppose you could try to find a voice synth program that you could macro with specific things to say, or (the most likely to be effective) develop a playstyle that requires no verbalization at all- the classic lone wolf. Kill everyone you see, and keep to yourself.

I wouldnt give up on the game just because you are mute, but I would expect to continue to be treated just as you were, should you find yourself interacting with other players. You might get lucky and run into someone willing to take the time and read what you have to type, but to be honest they will be the smallest minority of players. No offense, but I wouldn't wait for you to type out your pleas for mercy. I would shoot you and move on.

Good luck!

For a long time a deaf girl was part of the community I am with and she lots of friends in DayZ and even staff / Admin at the time.

Even with disabilities it is quite possible to play the game, you just need to know what you're into. :)

I can see it would be difficult.

I know that I usually don't pay attention to the text chat area so I would not notice if someone typed a message to me.

At least I wouldn't notice quickly.

If I talk to someone and they type in response, I would see that. I would just assume they have no mic or haven't bothered to configure voice chat properly.

There is software that will allow you to play various recorded sounds through in game voice. Perhaps you cold have someone record a selection of common statements and responses for you and use that? Of course you'll need a recording saying, "This is pre-recorded, I can't speak, please read text chat."

A lot of people won't type back because it will give away their identity. So that's a challenge, and that's why you were called a liar.

Maybe you could have a few stock phrases recorded for you that you could easily trigger- "lay down!" "I'll shoot" "friendly" (if so inclined)

Otherwise yeah- find a group that understands you and can help be your voice, or lone wolf it. Lone wolf will be challenging when meeting friendlier types. My first encounter with a friendly was interesting because I completely forgot what the key was to open the mic. 30 hours of solo play made it unnecessary. So after he said friendly, and I assessed that he was not a threat, I hit F1 to wave, and space to lower my gun. It got the message across.

I don't like killing on sight, i am the kind a person who likes giving people a chance, but if someone don't follow my commands, i will shot even if the person has a gun of sorts, if the person has non, i normaly just back away in to some wooded area and lose them if i can.

Finding people in the game to hang out with seem hard because it seem like 99.5% of people just try to kill you, and as one here said "No offense, but I wouldn't wait for you to type out your pleas for mercy. I would shoot you and move on."

Guess trying this forum is one thing, but then the question is, how many clan's here recruit people and have them meet up just to kill them for their loot? How can you trust someone?

You should find a group of like minded players to play with who understand your disability! I'm sure there is a clan or group out there who would be glad to have you.

I guess, but how do you trust someone in the game. I mean, just because you got accepted in to a clan, don't mean you can trust them it seems, or am i just to paranoid?

As a clan leader, I can tell you that we have NEVER done that. We are a merry band of KoSers, but we would never invite someone to our group with the sole intent of robiing and killing them. Thats cheap, and takes away from the KoS fun we like to have. Initially getting someone into the group is sometimes challenging, but its kind of a bit of honor amongst thieves, if you will, that once you join us in teamspeak, its just not cool to kill the person.

This^

Most likely he would have shot you anyway.

A lot of people don't have mics.

(I played for the longest time using text chat until my friend convinced me otherwise.)

This, it would probably be best to try and find some people for you to play with that know your situation. Try looking for a clan or just a group of people to play with here on the forums. Luckily most people use teamspeak which has built in text chat function, or you can just use steam which you can see in game if you don't have 2 monitors.

Just remember, there will always be doubters, and haters out there, that will not believe you. Don't let it ruing it for you, just ignore them and weed through the dumbasses. I have met some pretty cool and nice people from time to time, among all the derpsters.

i guess you are right, but i am not a KOS kind a person, well i have done it once, killed a sniper guy today entering the north west air field, i only did that cause i was sure he was setting up to sit there and kill people trying to loot there, i don't think that is cool.

It depends on what you're looking for! I have social anxiety, so I tend to run solo and my interactions are limited to creeping people out for lulz. >.>

But there is a clan recruitment section, and though I can't tell you from personal experience, it's likely that most of them are legitimate.

When I have grouped up with others in the past, I tended to like smaller clans/groups as opposed to giant massive clans where everyone is just  part of a bland faceless amalgam.

Smaller clans offer a more personal experience. If you do join a large clan, you could make yourself a small circle of friends to play with while in it.

If you don't find what you are looking for, you can simply cut the strings and try another clan!

Apart from text, you could always bind some keys to play sound effects in-game with some pre-recorded messages.

Not a bad idea, as long as i don't need to give up any private info, i.e steam account, skype, blah blah.

Yeah, like others have said, it's going to be a challenge, and there are going to be times when it's a disadvantage, but it's by no means impossible.

There are tons of groups out there who would happily have you on board. I'd offer to join you myself, but I'm honestly not really playing an awful lot of DayZ at the moment, so I wouldn't want to accidentally give the impression I was avoiding you! :p

But you don't even necessarily have to join a clan or anything that formal - there's no reason you can't just put a post up in the 'recruitment' forum explaining your situation and saying that you're looking for a bunch of people to play with who don't kill on sight. That's what I did when I first started playing, and I've met a couple of really good friends that way, who I've moved onto playing a wide variety of games with.

Believe it or not, there ARE good people who play DayZ, they're just hard to find in amongst all the assholes. :p

At the most, you might have to join a steam group or accept a friend request so that have a medium to invite you to a group with.

Possibly ventrillo.
