Death By Crowbar 1213 Posted February 20, 2014 I tend to hit servers with 10 or less people. What's everyone else's preference?

Nicko2580 398 Posted February 20, 2014 I started on under populated servers with my first few characters because I didn't know the mechanics or even what I was looking for in terms of loot, food etc. Now that I do I go straight for high population servers, even as a fresh spawn.
soulfirez 901 Posted February 20, 2014 Higher pop tends to work better i look forward to 100 man servers i cant say i would join higher than 100 man though ..

leefriendfield 438 Posted February 20, 2014 Higher pop tends to work better i look forward to 100 man servers i cant say i would join higher than 100 man though ..250 man servers is what I would like to see, give each player about 800m^2 each, this is something I would like to test out to see if it would work. Im all for large player counts.
Timecharge 28 Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) full, yet i still don't find that many players besides new spawns due to the lack of vehicles and only 40 man servers Edited February 20, 2014 by Timecharge
Caboose187 (DayZ) 3036 Posted February 20, 2014 30+ players only here. I don't really get the point to playing with less than 10 players. May as well just go buy a single player survivor game.

Im all for large player counts.800 sqm in a survival game to me that kinda sounds like a huge deathmatch 100 gives 2.25 sqm each enough to gather resources survive high chance of meeting people but not constant gun fire... But who knows till we test it...
Timecharge 28 Posted February 20, 2014 keep in mind most of the 225km^2 is just open land that people rarely go to if it was anything over a 100 man server then it would basically be a giant war in elektro, berezino, and the airfields

I prefer servers around 100-150, I gave 250 as the MOST people I would play with, and even at that it is WAY too many people.

louist 163 Posted February 20, 2014 If I'm a fresh spawn, I'll gravitate towards low-pop servers, simply to expedite the gearing process. Once I have a gun in my hands and a full belly, I'll switch over to a high-pop server to go hunting. When I'm playing with friends it's high-pop all the way. Even when freshly spawned, there's almost no risk, and thus little fun, for a group in a low-pop server.
leefriendfield 438 Posted February 20, 2014 keep in mind with anything over 100 chances are you would be killed by another fresh spawn or starve to death unless loot respawns are implemented100 - 150 person servers gives everyone about 1.5km^2 to everyons, but fresh spawns and server hoppers would stay along the coastline and NEAF leaving the survivors out in the wild west. Its all about finding the best balance so people out in the Wild Wild West can get comfrontation while not clogging the coast with more fresh spawns and wanna UBER SNIPER PRO's than there already is. Death By Crowbar 1213 Posted February 20, 2014 Just tried one with a population 30/40 - didn't end up so well. Got taken hostage by what looked like 2 friendlies then killed by another group. F me!
Wheunis 228 Posted February 20, 2014 As a fulltime airfield sniper, I must admit that 5-15 players is the sweetspot for me. Enough to not be empty. But not so much that people avoid the airfields altogether. On a full server, people get so paranoid about the airfields that I literally 99% never see anyone.Quite a few times now, I've been on an Airfield with 10 players in server - and personally wiped out 5 of them right on the damn airfield within 30 minutes! I am falling more and more in love with medium-pop servers....
-MadTommy 367 Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) I play with a few personal rules: #1 Always play on the highest population server possible. Otherwise there is really no risk/danger in the game. It seems so pointless playing on empty servers. No risk & no reward. Simply finding a high loot locations that has not been visited gives you a buzz on a high pop server. ( try real low pop like 1 to 5 people there server hoppers feel safe and will hope directly into an airport i got bored one day and tried hopper sniping and went straight to a real low pop server.. 3 people on server and yet in 45 min i had 5 kills and 2 close calls where they got away ... But thats not really a idea for the over all balance of the game..
mosibfu 71 Posted February 20, 2014 during daytime, my net tends to cut out at random times, if i feel like playing, its on a low pop server.. at other hours, i try to visit busy servers in search for fellow survivors that may be in trouble, because in a post apocalyptic world, every life is worth saving or we go extinct.. DamienScott (DayZ) 3 Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) I tend to stick to low population servers since loot doesn't respawn. The last time i tried spawning on a full server i starved to death before i found any food. Another reason I tend to play on low pop servers is because i play with 4 other people and it's hard enough trying to find and get to them before they kill themselves. Add 30 other players trying to KoS them and all my playtime invovles running back and forth between solnich and electro. I'm looking forward to more persistant servers and base building in the future, these will really make me want to play on higher population servers. ParaB 114 Posted February 20, 2014 30-40 player servers. The really low-population servers are just a playground for server hoppers.
timedance 120 Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) its a big crap to make servers with 50+ - there is not enough loot on the map for more people.100 people on a server - fatality  ... nearly 20-30 dead bodies can be found on streets of cherno or electro... :Pthis game will become a "deathmatch-arena" Edited February 20, 2014 by TiMEDANCE
