Slipping down hills ..

Recommended Posts

Well if anyone's read another topic of mine , I've suggested (witht the help of others commenting putting pieces together) making it so going up and down stairs (when a unique stamina system is put into the game ) should be faster depending on what you're wearing and how tired you are . I want this to apply to all steep areas in the game especially hills , downside being extreme fatigue running up or down hills and :

I would like to add the chance of falling over and possibly going into a controllable (maybe uncontrollable depending on how far up a hill / mountain you were ) roll when you're on a steep hill .

It wouldn't happen nearly all the time , maybe just if you lost balance because you were running for too long or too fast down/up a hill or elevated slope(steep slopes that require your character at the moment to slow down) with too much gear or something. Just imagine seeing a squad lose a member to a deadly tumble during a fire fight because he runs too fast down hill or across a mountain side to avoid being shot.

It would add another reason to think twice about engaging your enemy at certain geographical locations ( like If you had the upper hand by being on a hill above anther squad you'd at least be at a disadvantage because of the fatigue and possibly ridiculous death rolls made because of the steepness ) .

I can tell you that this would be a nightmare for the devs to implement reasonably. The checks that would be needed to make sure you weren't slipping down a hill every second time you ran up would be insane.

People already have to think about battling on hills with very steep slopes out rock outcrops because one missed step will result in a broken leg (especially since even the smallest fall seems to break something at the moment).

The only problem is that mechanics like this are why we get broken legs walking down stairs or climbing ladders. Trying to create realistic mechanics across a very fluid terrain create mistaken triggers that cause nonsensical accidents. I can just imagine someone walking over some pipes and going into an uncontrollable death roll across perfectly even land, breaking both legs and falling unconscious.

Aside from this, I generally suggest they stray away from too many "gotchas". They may be realistic, just as dropping dead of a heart-attack for no apparent reason may be realistic, but they will remove too much control from the player. Yes, in real life, you have very little control over your own fate, but in a game, control over your own fate is sort of the point.

this won´t happen, won´t even work on this engine i think.

Just so you know, heart attacks are a thing that will happen, complete with heart fibrillation, checking of pulse and proper use of the defibrillator. In fact, they may already be in experimental, or are due soon. Check Sacriel's YouTube channel where Rocket joins him and discusses future features, they discuss the shock system and other health aspects like heart attacks.

So yeah, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if a falling-down-hills mechanic is brought in. In fact, I'd welcome it.
