Cowboy hats - an invitation to shoot on sight?

Recommended Posts

Since they've been introduced everyone that has tried to KoS me has been wearing one - I'm currently on a 5-0 streak though as wearing a cowboy hat also seems to make you somewhat retarded with your aim but that is by the by - which had lead me to be ultra suspicious about players wearing them to the point of me KoS (which paradoxically disproves my point as I am not wearing one, but let's not get caught up in a self referencing conundrum). What's more I'm playing UK servers so it's not even the issue that it's socially acceptable to wear them (trust me, in the EU it's definitely not socially acceptable to be seen wearing a cowboy hat!).

So the question here is have you met a nice cowboy hat wearing player? Bonus points for any that were not American.

Personally I like wearing black or cammo bandanas.

But each player has his own favorite wardrobe...

Your final question: Don't recall ever being hunted down by a cowboy... mostly i get it from guys wearing beanies or baseball caps... GO FIGURE!

I always rock the Cowboy hat, I consider myself an alright kind of gentleman.  I'm not a carebear fuckwit and nor am I a KoSer.  Be cool with me and yeah, I'll share ma beans.

Plus I'm English, how many points do I get?

I had a black cowboy hat but kept getting into a lot of unnecessary firefights, whether its easier to see or people want to KoS you instantly wearing one, I dunno. I had to drop it for a camo bandana.

Right, well for a start I'm not surprised the English lads are wearing cowboy hats. That's to be expected from the English.. ;)

As for being hunted down, I wouldn't say that, more that I have encountered more trigger happy cowboy hat wearers.

Personally I am a helmet guy, not for any reason of fashion but purely from a defence point of view. I got into a firefight with a guy wearing a cowboy had up in NWAF and we both landed a similar number of shots. Me? I was unconscious for maybe 30 seconds, him (or her? who am I to judge) was out for the count despite both having M4's and presumably both aiming head shots.

No, it's really not. Ever. Trust me on that. The only people who wear them are rather confused Germans.

I am from the EU and it definitley is socially acceptable to wear whatever you want. Maybe your corner of the EU is full of retards, judging people on the way they dress?

Yes, and I am one of those.

There is no gear that brands you as nice or not nice. You dress the way you want. There is no way to be able to preemptively judge people on how they dress in this game - nor in real life.

If you were a cowboy hat and a gun in a game, you are an antogonist. You will end up with a bullet in your butt cheeks;)

Are you wearing camo? I'm told only bandits wear camo and should be KoS.

I'm not judging anyone, other than having dreadful fashion sense of course.. ;)

I've lived and travelled all over the EU, I wouldn't say I have a "corner".

Yet this is the thing, since they have been introduced it's currently running at maybe an 80% chance of CH wearers shooting on sight. I'm not judging, I'm going on personal statistics. It seems an awfully high ratio, so hence the thread.

I don't wear cammo as such, I do tend to wear clothes than blend in though. Hunter backpack, yes, orange Mountain backpack no. Green helmet, yes, bright blue safety helmet, no.

Is there a cammo cowboy hat? I've seen one in real life, but not in game.

Anyone wearing a wolf mask or other mask is either trouble or new. - Rhinocrunch.

Oooh, bingo, that is generally a good rule of thumb, although that said I see less and less clown masks.

You're getting confused. Bandits wear camo make up, and should be kissed on sight. Down by the docks.

There is the green cowboy hat which ACTUALLY is very good for camo if you can find one.

That's exactly the point. It is new. It looks different than anything before. People will pick it up and wear just because of that. That's why there's more people wearing them at the moment. And as the majority of players KoS there will also be more of them wearing the hats.

Your "personal statistics" do not prove anything as they only describe what you perceive. Before they were introduced nobody could wear them so you didn't notice them. Now that they are here people do wear them (even more frequently as they are new) and as they do stand out from all the other headgear you do notice them more often than a beanie hat or radar cap.

Look how gorgeous this hat is, OMG, love cowboy hats!!

They need a light blue cowboy hat in game to. Blues and reds seem like more uncommon cowboy hat colors in real life but they do have them. Special dye's are always harder to make for leathers but can be pretty cool.

Well to be a pedant "personal statistics" do prove something, they prove that more people with cowboy hats have been taking pot shots at me. However they are subjective rather than objective, hence (as I say) the thread.

I know quite a few Berlin "specialist" clubs that you would get free entry at the door and quite a few drinks bought for you should you turn up dressed like that.. ;)
