It's harder to be a friendly than a kill-on-sighter; looks like you took the easy way out (or just died a few minutes before posting). I, however, like the challenge of relentless hatred in the apocalypse, so I'm one of the people still holding the torch of friendliness :3

That experience should have made you think about checking your surroundings more often and not walk in open areas where you can be easily spotted/followed.

Why is it that most people want to kill everyone when they get killed.. my first 10-15 deaths, first thing that I thoght was "I was so stupid because I didn't / did XYZ"..

They couldn't pay me enough to crawl/sneak from bush to bush in this game. I hate stealth games. And I don't have the time or patience. But that's just me. Ricky Recon and his band of green meanies are welcome to it. ;)

Then you are my antipod, even if there's 5 people on the server, I jump from bush to bush, do 360 turns often and almost never venture directly inside airfield buildings/military bases.. though I am always in the outskirts picking off those that loot them and getting my supplies from them.

Take it like a man, enjoy regearing, and do it again.

 

You can't just stand in the middle of the street and say hello.  You need to engage in conversation from the dominant position, with your weapon drawn and pointing at them.  Talk to them.  If they have no mic or refuse communication, be careful.  If they move in a way that looks like they are trying to hide or break line of site, shoot them.  

 

You can be nice without being naive.  But going to KOS isn't really fun, though it might be cathartic. 

Wow me and PhillyT are in complete agreement on this point.... Being nice hell even being heroic doesnt have to mean being careless and throwing your life away ..

 

We all know KOS is  crazy right now you see someone stalk them a bit ( its actually fun gets the heart pumping trying not to be seen or lose them ) from this you will find out if there alone and when you can get the advantage then make the greating ( a greating with gun out ready to shoot if they make 1 wrong step...

 

People get nervous at this but quickly into the chat when they have figured out hey he doesnt want to rob me, hey he hasnt cuffed me and drained me of blood, hey if he wanted to he could have shot already if he wanted to they relax a little and trade or you helping them can happen..

 

This only works as well as you judgement on intent does though so it aint perfect but you will die less have more interaction and may lead to the people you speak to being less likely to shoot first on other people( may not either a true KOS player will always KOS)

 

Im a little harsher than PhillyT on the no mic or talking part for me you have no mic then your not likely playing for interaction so guess what i shoot you!!!!!

I was hiding in a bush, nearly starving to death hoping someone would run by... moments later 1 Military geared guy and a bambi run by so I step out and politely ask if they have a can of food to spare. They started acting weird not answering my question so I just ran as fast as I could into a bush where I hid, they nearly ran right past me.

 

Next thing I know buddy obviously finds me and blasts his M4 (I swear a whole 60 round clip) and goes your dead now asshole hahaha!

 

I had the drop on them, Even when I was in the bush hiding I had my fucking Mosin aimed at the military guys head but for some reason I NEVER EVER pull the damn trigger. So im laying there unconcious and shout out, can you please explain why? why would you kill me? Im undergeared and it looks like you have everything you would ever want.

guess what's going to happen when dayz will be released to more than just

those people who support this game in alpha stage already.

 

i think the audience will consist of an even bigger part of "deathmatch" guys.

it wont get better by itself.

either you offer different hives with PvE enforced (FF off) / PvP / PvE where killing is sanctionized somhow (like heartbeatsensor if killcount > 3) / etc...

 

or u will see a clan/team dominated deathmatch scene in an open world surrounding. it will be clan wars and freshmeat...

 

so i mean the principle of heroism and murderers is planned to be implemented AFAIK, but they will have to do things like

reward people who help strangers and punish people whose kill count wents up like 1 per hour.

and not only +10 honor for helping a stranger and with 100 honor you get a nice badge... no you have to make it worth helping others

and bandits have to be marked/punished so that their advantage in loot (by killing players and looting them) is equalized.

Works 25% of the time, I always did my friend, but its time for payback now. I found out through 140hours of In-game time that it is a wasted effort, just read my post above that. Im not giving one more person the upper hand by talking to them first, they are just dead... I got my group of friends I play with, they are safe... Im not interested in anymore backstabbing.

Sometimes the back stabbing is well funny and worth the experience.. I recall a time in the mod hiding in the supermarket at night as a bambi i called out to a geared player if he could help as i had no means of seeing at night( yes i dont gamma exploit sorry )

 

He slowly crouched moved over to near the door and said sure try this, he tossed in a road flare lighting the place up and ofcourse dragging every zed in damantion on to me ..... I have been trying to be a nice player from day 1. I helped new players, fresh spawns, etc, I acted as a traveling salesman trying to barter with people the items I collect from up north, and generally just trying to be a goodguy helping out the fellow traveler.

I'm sick and tired of dimwitted, unimaginative douchebag fucktards who's only joy in this game is to murder everything/one that isn't them.

 

I saw a lone traveller in Zelenogorsk just a few minutes ago and was hoping to trade some items as I had loads of medical supplies. I call out "ahoy traveler!" and I get shot in the back from his buddy. Im now unconsious. I say Im a friendly just looking to do some bartering and they reply "well we arent."

 

This isn't the first time. I've been murdered in cold blood countless times because I try to be nice and helpful and trusting. I was obviously naive.

 

I'm joining the darkside and I will now murder every single mother fucker I come across with extreme fucking prejudice.

 

I tried hard and long to be a goodguy and it just isn't fucking worth it.

 

I was being super nice at the North East airfield last night with a friend. Some dude with a Mosin scared the shit out of me and my friend shot him in the chest, but it didn't kill him (bullets apparently maim non-stop but never seem to kill anymore). The guy was yelling, "Whoa, stop, I'm not here to fight! I didn't mean to startle you". We then came out cautiously, though we had a third friend providing sniper cover who apparently fell asleep at the wheel because his wife came home.

 

Anywho, we traded some ammo with him, I gave him some food and I even traded him his ruined assault vest for my pristine one as a token of good will. He then gave me two M4 double mags he couldn't use at that time so I made out alright, and we went our separate ways.

 

I then ran into 3 new spawns who had come running to the base for supplies and guns. All of them were actually pretty cool and we all geared up. So all in all there were 7 people by that time, all armed with some type of firearm, scavanging the airfield and trading supplies / giving away food to help everyone. It was pretty weird.

 

Then some fully mega-kitted dude saw us, popped at a shot at the least supplied guy there who was waving at him with his shotgun holstered on his back. I think we drilled the guy with at least 70 rounds, ruining everything he had but ensuring he died.

 

All in all, however, every encounter we had probably had gone well because we approached them on our terms. If someone was running, we made sure they were alone. I would then approach them from cover where my friend had my back (or I could get the first shots out) and I'd start talking to them. If they didn't talk or type back and started pulling out guns and moving in a fashion I deemed threatening, I would end them after several warnings to relax, "Because if I wanted to kill you guys, I would have shot you five minutes ago".

 

Outside of shooting and wounding that one guy who surprised me, I think everyone was playing as though they valued their character's life even if they did not have much. While I don't want to use terms that imply people are playing the game wrong, I do think it's slightly jarring when people play this game as a regular shooter with  a K/D spread. Realistically, I don't think someone would start popping off rounds at a large group of heavily armed people unless they were some type of ex-special forces commando who had set up this perfectly planned ambush ahead of time, not just ran up hip firing while everyone was spread out and he, the attacker, had no real cover. That just strikes me as someone who really is playing simply to cause other people misery and is suicidal. It definitely throws in a giant randomness factor into every encounter.....

 

.... and I'm somewhat of a hypocrite because I sometimes get very bored and wander into Elektro to engage in firefights with other groups of heavily armed people just to see if I can kill a few of them before I inevitably die.
