Messing around on experimental, 1PP vs 3PP :D

Recommended Posts

I'm not actually camping in this location, I just wanted to illustrate the unfairness of 3PP as opposed to 1PP for those who might not yet fully understand the difference. Keep in mind, these are taken in the exact same position, I merely pressed enter to change between the two views.

1PP:

Good! (:

3PP:

Bad. ):

Also, can someone perhaps explain to me why my frames per second seem to be capped at 49 on experimental? <3

3pp feels like cheating tbh. You can see everything around you without the risk of exposing your self.

You've changed the field of view... you can't trick me so easily!

Nuh-uh! ):

I think most people are aware of the 1PP/3PP debate, I just figured I'd actually post some screenshots for future reference when the debate surely rears its ugly head again!

Also, the 49 frames per second cap... discuss.

3PP should automatically close the FoV by 30º to compensate the camera position.

Would solve the issue.

Let me ask you a question:

In first person, do you think that what you are seeing in the screenshot even vaguely represents what you're seeing in real life?

While the third person screenshot clearly shows that you see much more, the contrast is only so incredibly obvious because the field of view in first person is so incredibly low. Even to the point where I'd get motion sickness. This is a problem I do not have in other games by the way, it only happens in DayZ/ARMA. So could you explain why it is that first person is so uncomfortable?

What debate?  Some prefer 1PP others prefer 3PP,  End of...

I wish I could hit 49 FPS without staring at the ground!  I struggle to get past 30 most days.

Probably because you know there is a 3PP alternative.

Have you tried turning off Head Bob in the options?

Adjust your 1PP field of view until it is comfortable.

Is it possible to change your 1PP field of view, while keeping third person the same?

I play on both Regular and Hardcore servers by the way.

Probably because you know there is a 3PP alternative.

Are you honestly implying that I use 3PP as a crutch and I can't live without? What evidence do you have to make such a bold statement?

Have you tried turning off Head Bob in the options?

Yes I have, I turned off head bob and motion blur, because those two both made it even worse.

IRL you would expose only a minute part of your face to "peek" over the wall and see the field. In game mechanics require you to expose a unrealistictly large ammout of your body to see over a wall that height. That's just one of the things 3rd compensates for. Now call me crazy but I think that playing vs 3rd users is much harder gameplay, as illustrated in your shots. Approaching that airfield I carnt just check once and be sure....I have to actively keep checking roofs towers small walls for snipers. It keeps me alert, and increases the challenge ten fold.

But man....really another 1st vs 3rd thread. This has been discussed over and over, with people just reiterating all the stuff from that vid. Nothing new ever really comes from it except people entrenching there position more and more. The inclusion of both views is good for the game as a whole. Brings in payers from other backgrounds, and having hardcore gives options for players that carnt handle someone peeking :P

Lets face it if it was about your experience you would just hit num pad enter and play away. And if a challenge is what your after play exclusively 1st on 3pp enabled servers  :)

But your shots bring nothing new to the table. If you've seen the vid, its shown there quite clearly. Isnt this topic in a way making it rear its ugly head again :P

Surely the I hate 3pp cry cry stuff should have stopped, when hardcore mode was added. Don't like 3pp so much, don't play on servers that allow it. 3pp makes it feel more mmo and 1pp makes it feel more like a shooter, I play both but use a 1pp server when I want to play only 1pp. on normal servers I switch between modes when a mode suits best for the situation. I am still seeing loads of complaints about 3pp and it is so annoying. Go play hardcore, simple problem solved, now move on with your life.

I reckon the discussion is not about preference but WHY the camera aspect is so blatantly different.

@Ghostflux - the camera angle opens as you move it back so to keep the same FoV. Both 1 and 2 have same aspect.

There are no independent FoV controls and it would make no sense.

If the Devs want to balance it they know exactly what to change.

I'm not aware of this "vid" you keep referencing. I was looting the tower and went prone for a second to go take a piss. When I came back it really struck me how overpowered 3PP is. I've yet to see any threads pertaining to identical screenshots of the two different views. I must have missed this "vid".

The thread was created with equal concern over my apparent frame rate cap of 49. They've been as high as 140 on stable; it's just experimental where they seem to remain constant. Any thoughts on that? Or perhaps a link to a helpful "vid"?

Holy shit, one - you have "hardcore" servers now if you really hate 3rd person view so much. That's a funny name considering all it changes is gets rid of crosshair and 3rd person. Second - 3rd person was in the series since OFP and Bohemia didn't see that as a problem because it's still in the series. Third - you can't feel your body in a game at all so your spatial awareness is gimped without 3rd person.

That has to be the silliest argument for 3PP I have yet to come across.

Hmmm maybe its the player increase. Did the update reset any vid options possibly enabling v-sync?? even though im sure that caps at 60 the effect you describe sounds a lot like what v-sync does.

The vid is....

But like I say a quick forum search and you will see loooooads of threads, some with hundreds and hundreds of posts debating it ;)

Hi.

LoL at anybody who tries to say 3PP simulates anything about reality.

Still, this topic has been beaten to death, over and over again.

Although BIS is my personal favorite action game developer, I really dislike that they ever included 3PP. Even though it was automatically disabled when you turned the difficulty up, it still gives these newcomers that don't seem to have a clue what they are talking about, the ability to say its been in the game since OpF. Meh, it was nothing but a crutch to let noobs learn how to play the game without constantly getting headshot by AI they never saw.

Any decent PVP server had all that easy mode bullshit turned off(3PP, aiming cursors, magic maps).

/endrant

At least we have the option for regular/hardcore servers, though it would probably be better change names hardcore to regular and current regular to rookie or something similar.

Regards.

The situations that come with having 1st person are more realistic and people saying trivial things like increased "spatial awareness" are worth accepting the many MASSIVE problems and exploits that come along with having a floating periscope 10 feet behind your head are lying to themselves. It's also obvious which perspective provides more fair and tense PvP.

Third person is generally more pleasant to move around in and you can take better screenshots of your character. That's it. Oh, and the servers tend to be both more numerous and more populated. So far I have played only 1PP since the hardcore servers came out... but I won't turn up my nose at joining regular server if I'm so inclined, 3rd is how I played for most of the mod.

It is exactly why it is in and true to it's core.

Furthermore it seems that assaulting 3PP has become the toy of a few zealots. You have 1PP only servers. Get on those and stop the QQ

Everyone has the same tools at their disposal...  don't like the thought of being seen in such a manner, then stick to Hardcore servers.  It's pretty simple.

Lulz turn up you field of view. As for a RL perceptive in a game I'm gonna need you to back up that comment and at least give us one example that doesn't require a VR engine. Otherwise what we got is as good as it gets. There may be better but I'd like to hear them..

I'm gonna go with your head bob is still on. Even with it off your screen will still shake. Just like in RL.

Also try not running around with your camera at full zoom like 99% of 3PP:On players. When I play in 3rd I'm in full zoom 100% of the time cause well why not. Its basically hacking.

If you zoom in while in first person your camera as I already stated is shaking from basic movement (Even with Head Bob Off) causing any long distance viewing to be very difficult. Add in Head Bob and your all over the place. (Not realistic at all. Our eyes compensate for our head movement.)

So just the basic camera movement gives a huge tactical advantage to the person using 3PP cause the camera doesn't shake at all. It's locked into a invisible floating box above the characters head. Think Mario World from N64 if your as old as me.

This 3PP:Off constant camera movement even with head bob off causes allot of players motion sickness. Your not the first nore the last. That has been brought up even back in A2 days..

Kind of like how some kids couldn't watch the original Pokemon cartoon cause it caused seizures. Some eye's/minds can handle it while others don't. The answer to that is above my pay grade.

Don't ask the forum ask your Doc why you get motion sickness playing games. -Joke

Final note. As easy as 3PP:On is everyone has it too. The playing field is fair. It just seems like hacks. If you don't mind getting spotted over a wall from a guy crouching on the other side even though you were a X-SEAL who knows more about being tactical and stealthy than anyone in game it doesn't matter. Cause even the SEAL could toss out skills and take up a different camera angle too.

The OP's screen shots a prime example. Dude is laying down in the A-Tac Tower. You could sit off the edge of the Air Field and wait and spot for hours just, waiting for movement in the tower. Of course you don't see anything and you think it's safe. Well guess what. Some guy had a eye on you from the start thanks to the camera angle. No matter how skilled or tacticool you were it would not matter. MoFo can watch you all day without you ever knowing.

Now does that sound like fun? Only for the A-Hole in the tower.

And note to the OP: Now post these shots. Crouch next to a wall in 3rd Person. Shoulder to wall. Then Lean into the wall. Now use your camera to see through every and any object in game.   <-----THAT IS A REAL PROBLEM...Not just seeing over shit. Cause whats the point of being mad about a guy seeing you over the wall when in fact he saw you through it like it wasn't even there in the first place.

I know of a couple other bullshit 3PP tricks you can use. Again why I don't play 3PP. I'm not the only one who knows this.

Fuck it...I'll tell one. You can use the same lean trick and put your gun barrel through a wall and sit in 3PP:On and bag people without ever being seen. And there are many more...

Now send in the hordes of 3PP=better...Lulz...Until they can fix the real issues with 3PP I honestly think it's game breaking and immersion destroying...
