How come the NW airfield is just about the safest place on the map atm?

Because there is no more map markers. Most teenagers don't know how to land nav. Staying on the coast doesn't require any land nav skills. In the mod, you could just point and shift+click the NWAF and then poof you know exactly where to go. I just hope the center of the map doesn't stay empty forever...

If I want to fully geared and bored out of my f'in skull, I head to the NW AF.

 

If I want to run around with an axe to see every single item scavenged, I go to NE AF.

I stopped going once the tents stopped spawning loot, because they were the best places to reliably find attachments. Plus I've kinda swapped out the M4 and piles of loot for an SKS and low profile gear.

I just went to the jail/police building or whatever it is in the wood north of NWAF.. it must be new as i didn't know it was in there, just stumped across is.. this was on the 64 player experimental server.

 

I shat my pants and ran north after looting it.. I haven't been to the NWAF since i played the mod 2 years ago.. that has scarred me enough that i promised my survivor i would never go there again.  It used to be when you got within 2km of that place you would be snipped by some fucker with a 50cal with thermal sights. < the reason i stopped playing the mod!

Damn im running into people at the NWAF since patch .34 been on the hunt for a LRS so i have done several runs there id say 3 out of 4 times there i have spotted some one and run (why fight the place will have been looted if they are there.) and once i got caught in one of the camo towers in extended gun fight with an m4 and a sks guy...

 

Wish someone had told them its now a safe zone lol....

I personally seem to run into people over there just about 20 % of the time, which in my opinion is rather low but then again expected after the tent loot was broken.

I'd say it is still quite the hotzone if you are playing on servers that have a decent amount of people. Already ran into groups of players there a few times as well as other lone stragglers.

As I clarified on first page, im playing hardcore only. I literally haven't met anyone yet on the airfield since the release date.

 

I've been noticing the people posting ITT that they meet people on the airfield are all US (and you Australia). Is it an EU only problem?

I see people at NWAF often on the hardcore servers I play in. I've been going there a lot trying to find a LRS(since we don't have binoculars). I don't really find a lot of rifles there anymore though. Vybor, on the other hand has rifles coming out its ass, the other night when I went though it, I found 2 mosins, 2 SKS's, 2 shotguns, 1 of thoses new double barrel rifles and even an M4 upstairs in the machine shop. That was just going into the high % buildings. If it wasn't for the LRS, and M4 parts, there wouldn't be much reason to bother with military bases.

haha also can tell you a story about the nw-airfield as a safe place... Never encountered someone there but i never forget to be cautious so i had my m4 as always in ready to shoot position. i approached one jail building with closed door and thought of easy loot when the door opened and two m4 carrying dudes came out and startet to fire. Funny thing i killed them both although i was pretty fresh and just picked up an m4 with a single 30 round magazine...

I got into 1 huge firefight there in SA and that's all.

 

I think the biggest reason it's dead is because there are no more Heli sites to loot around it.

Am I the only one who joins a server with 2 people and always gets in a firefight? I have killed on self defense more times on low population servers than when I join a friend of mine that likes to snipe at Balota from a tall building, on highly populated servers, and I play guardian dog. My last encounter was at the NW airfield. Lucky for us we both sucked at shooting while moving so we missed and I was able to force a stalemate that ended with the other guy hearing to reason and walking away.

 

I think that every time you join a server with 1-4 players on, chances are they can be found at one of the airfields. That's what seems to happen to me and you, at least. Crashed at night in the Balota jail house, spawned in the morning on a 3 man server and very soon a guy comes on the other side, running to the barracks. I killed him and I kept seeing him on other servers that I joined. I guess he was after me xD.

When the mod was still "new", and months after, the NW airfield used to be just about the most dangerous place on the map. Every time you went there, wether the server was full or low pop, you were almost guaranteed to end up in a firefight. Near the end of the mods life cycle this changed, and almost no one went to the airfield anymore. I allways assumed this had to do with hackers, loot duping and the fact that you could have a few characters worth of gear stored in tents making going to the airfield not worth it anymore.

 

I fully expected the NW airfield to become a hotspot again in the standalone, but it just isn't. Despite spending alot of time at the airfield, I have not met anyone there yet in the standalone (and i've been playing since it was released). Doesn't matter wether the server is full, or almost empty. There just isn't anyone there. When I arrive all the doors are closed, all the loot intact.

 

Why is this? Do the Ballota and NE airfields yield so much loot it isn't worth the hassle anymore to trek across the map? Do people just not care about military loot anymore and simply want to fight eachother at the coast?

 

In fact, I have never met anyone outside of the coast and the NE airfield. Do people just not care enough to move in land at all in general?

 

I have killed too many to count lately that feel "safe" in my backyard. Go ahead and visit the NWAF if you see Irish on it. Ill be waiting.
