skates15 0 Posted February 10, 2014 I'm new to the game and must be doing something wrong because I just spent 3 hours going thru nearly 60 buildings and found a pen, 2 rotten kiwis and a shovel, then died of starvation. So, I tried again by going inland and went thru 30+ buildings, same result, starvation. It was definitely a huge waste of time overall. One tip was to not go on populated servers, but I'm trying to learn/play the game and no better way than to go on populated servers. I don't mind the rest of the game, but finding loot is nearly impossible, for me anyway...this can't be what the game is about can it?
herrjon 478 Posted February 10, 2014 Are you staying on the coast? Do the buildings you are looting have open doors when you find then? Is there a lack of zombies where you are looting? Loot only spawns on server restart, so if another player loots a building, there won't be any loot for the next player for the next few hours. The best way to counter this is to head straight inland from the get-go until you hit a town that doesn't have any open doors. You'll find more loot than you can hold. skates15 0 Posted February 10, 2014 I stay away from buildings with doors open and have run into a fair amount of zombies. The largest town I was in, which I thought was pretty big (don't recall the name), every building had a door open, which I thought was odd because it was so large. DaMaakus 34 Posted February 10, 2014 This is mostly the result of a populated server combined with long timespans between restarts. I once was on a populated server, stepped into the first house on the coast, walked into the kitchen, found a pack of cereals, a bag of rice, two cans of food and a bottle of water. On another occasion, I joined a low-population server and found nearly nothing till I was really far inland (and went boldly where no man went before... upstairs and climbed ladders and such, other players seek to avoid). There is no real advice I can give you on this, except for the mostly common: - Ignore the brown/wooden houses and the buildings where you can only go to the second floor (by stairs on the side of the building), there is no loot in them at the moment, they are a waste of your time.- Go inland as soon as possible.- Raising your fists and then double tap and holding W allows you to run a little bit faster then running without raising your fists. It is not much, but in the long run (pun intended) it saves you time. (This can be seen as an exploit, if you want to use this is up to you).- Join low pop servers to find starting items. You can join a more populated server in your next gaming session. Some of these tipps are kind of... cheaty. On the other hand, without respawning loot and KoS'ing fucks everywhere, some questionable things have to be done to enjoy this game without killing the fun for others.

knar33 158 Posted February 10, 2014 On full servers, all of the coastal cities will be ravaged by new spawns, and all that remains will be bandits who shoot new spawns for their batteries (or w/e they shoot new spawns for). Try logging into a 15-20 player server and checking the loot. You still get the danger of bandits, but more loot. Once you have a couple bits of food and a hatchet feel free to leave the coast and join a full server. The only people who log onto 40/40 servers are people looking to kill other people on the coast and/or high pop areas. Loot never respawns, so the full servers are full of spawn campers with no goal besides target practice against unarmed targets.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted February 10, 2014 As above - get off the coast. You'll start to find everything in abundance once you get a few miles inland where everything hasn't been looted already. :)

Wait until the loot respawning works again ( its currently disabled, loot ist only respawning if the server restarts ), If you dont want to wait, look for a server which is restarting every 2/3 hours. Add these servers to favorites, join the game and wait until it restarts. Go away from the coast and find foot :) It works for me and its a good workaround for the loot issues Edited February 10, 2014 by Rancor

LaughingJack (DayZ) 767 Posted February 10, 2014 Pf. Implementation of cannibalism is rumored. I will eat all your feet...maybe scalloped with cheese, served with beans and rice, some pepper and a whiff of nutmeg...
DaMaakus 34 Posted February 10, 2014 Pf. Implementation of cannibalism is rumored. I will eat all your feet...maybe scalloped with cheese, served with beans and rice, some pepper and a whiff of nutmeg...Rumored, yes. I don't think this will be implemented. Along with hanging, raping, tearing eyes out and ears off and some other stupidly sick shit, some strange people on this forums demand. I don't think it was in the Mod either and it would bring some strange reviews and even more sick people to this. Not sure if this is what rocket (and in some ways Bohemia Interactive) intended to do. But whatever, cannibalism would be the most "sane and logical" thing from the lots of insane shit people suggest. :)

DaMaakus 34 Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) Not anymore, pal :)You sure? Played friday with a couple of friends. Outran one of them till I told him the "secret". Same thing with a random survivor on the street at the coast on saturday. Ran up to him, past him and told him about the fist-thing over direct chat. He then could keep up with me. From my observation, I think it still works. :) Edited February 10, 2014 by DaMaakus

The only problem is that when you got your fists out you cant go right into prone mode. You have to stop, put your fist down and then go proned this also goes for crouching. Monkfish (DayZ) 339 Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) Wrong, they contain books, and sometimes water/food.Really? I've been in plenty of those recently and not found anything worthwhile, even on servers that haven't been cleared out (ended up in Stary Sobor and that had plenty of loot still). I also don't recall seeing anything in any patch notes about loot now spawning in those buildings. Got a link where this is confirmed as fixed? EDIT: Also, the medium sized squat yellow houses with the blue detailing on them contain lots of food spawns (if it's not been cleared out already). Expect to find cereal, rice, a variety of tinned foods/fruit, fizzy drinks and canteens. The other rooms in the house will often have other loot items too. I am not even sure, rocket and his team are aware of this (no loot in those buildings).I think I read somewhere he played the game in a stream with a fan or reporter or someone like this and it seems he went into every house, even those buildings we talk about. Maybe the missing spawn has the same reason as the missing spawn in the tents, even though, the buidlings didn't spawn anything while the tents still had loot. I assume you never played or read the walking dead... Not as sick as forcing a man to eat rotten food and spray vernice until vomit anyway

Two episodes and I'm done with the third season. Was much better than the second season. :)Might get my hands on the games, when there is a steam sale or something. Can't wait for the loot respawn. ;) Another good thing is to look very thoroughly. I walked through a looted village the other day and found absolutly nothing. Then I entered a building (the "pub" if you may call it). And on the last chair in the back of the room (besides the bar), there was a can of sardines on the seat surface of the chair, closest to the wall. It was hard to see, with the colour of the chair and the colour of the top of the can.On another occasion I went through a looted airfield and found literally nothing, but on the side wall of the ACT, there is a fuse box or something similiar, where I found (on top of it) cans of soda and for one time, even the new pilot helmet. Conclusion: Take your time, someone might have overlooked something.
