The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)

Recommended Posts

A bit of a unique weapon, but I feel a unique suggesiton - the L4A4 Bren Gun.

The L4A4 is a 7.62x51mm (.308 Winchester) conversion of the legendary British Bren Gun. Following the onset of the Cold War, the British army, and many other European countries had Bren Guns or similar guns based off of the Czech ZB26/ZB30 series of LMGs. With NATO standardizing the 7.62x51mm cartridge in the 1950's, the British were forced to change their Bren guns from .303 British to the new cartridge, as there were insufficient supplies of an alternative in service at the time. This wasn't met with much complaint from British soldiers at the time, who had come to absolutely adore the Bren since its introduction in 1937 for the purpose of walking fire, but as nations started to adopt other light and general purpose machine guns with belt feeds beginning at the end of WW2, the firearm was slowly becoming obsolete. Nevertheless, with a chrome plated barrel (L4A4 and later variants) and interchangeable magazines with the FN FAL series, the L4 still went on to provide great service for itself as a light machine gun for the squad sized level unit. The British army continued to use the L4 in The Troubles in Northern Ireland, and also in the Falklands War to great effect. Eventually, the superior FN MAG series of General Purpose Machine Guns (in the form of the L7 GPMG) would go on to replace the L4 Bren Guns as the squad level MG with its belt feed and modularity, but service of the Bren Gun continued as late as 2006 in some places, and the LMG is being manufactured to this date.

In Day Z, the L4A4 will serve as a rare light machine gun, to represent the Bren Guns, the ZB26 and other similar firearms in common circulation around the world that are based on the Czech ZB26 and are still used in conflicts commonly around the world to this date. The Bren Gun will be rare in itself - being only found at NATO helicopter crash sites and NATO barracks, however, the magazines (which will just be 20 and 30 round FN FAL magazines) will be able to be found at any military spawn, much like the magazines for the UMP and SVD. The ammunition being fired will also be the .308 Winchester, making ammunition fairly common. The Bren Gun will have devastating potential - it is after all a fully automatic .308! It will come with a built in bipod as well, and the Bren will be devastatingly accurate at medium range, and able to be hip fired quite effectively also with only a moderate recoil and fairly fast reload. It will however not be able to be outfitted with any attachments (except for maybe different barrels,) and still be limited against other belt fed machine guns, which will be able to out shoot/suppress a Bren gun with their bigger ammo supply, and also be lighter. The Bren Gun will also be fairly heavy for its somewhat limited magazine capacity (for an LMG,) meaning that once the stamina system is fully implemented will mean that the Bren Gunner will have to be limited in other supplies if he does not wish to be too burdened down.

Nevertheless, this gun will serve as a unique LMG that is fairly well known among the gaming community and other communities thanks to its daddy's .303 variant used in WW2, and represent the ZB26 series that has served nation's armies around the world for almost a century, and make the wielder nevertheless very dangerous even against some of the most well geared players.

I just want to say YES PLEASE to the Berreta 92FS... it's my all time favourite gun <3

I wouldn't mind a Beretta 92FS but I don't see it bringing any variety to the game, considering we already have a 9mm semi auto with a double stack mag through the CR75, and we're about to get a Glock 19 as well now. However, it would be nice, but perhaps a better option would be the Beretta 93R variant of the Beretta 92FS? 3 round burst pistol, with 15 or 20 round magazines. :)

The CZ 75 should really be an 18 round handgun, not 15 rounds like it currently is. The G19 will be 15 assuming they don't add 10 rounders or anything from larger models, but considering that this model is tricked out with night sights and a barrel thread I think it's meant as more of a special operations weapon. Your stock, default M9/92FS would be far more ubiquitous but also wouldn't have any support for attachments or suppressors like the CZ 75 and G19 do. (Unless it was an M9A1 or M9A3.)

The M9 is probably just worth it to have a complete set of USMC weapons - after all, they did say they were designing a kit around their gear, so that's one good reason to have it. The 93R doesn't make any sense despite how cool it is.

Remington Model 700P

The Remington Model 700 is one of the most popular and commercially successful bolt action precision rifles of all time. Produced since 1962, among police, military and civilian markets, with likely over 10 million individual rifles being manufactured in calibers ranging from as small as .17 Remington to .458 Winchester Magnum. Designed from the get go to be a mass produced bolt action rifle, the receiver is milled from round, cross-sectioned steel and the bolt has 2 forward lugs with the cartridge being fully enclosed to produce a tight lock on the cartridge. Almost all variants of the R700 use internal magazines ranging from 3-6 rounds, though a few exceptions to this use detachable magazines. They can be outfitted with various barrels and optics, as well as various stocks. The US military M24 and M40 sniper rifles were directly built off the Remington Model 700 platform, and even muzzle loading variants of the R700 exist.

The Remington Model 700 is praised for its precision, simplicity, and versatility by many shooters around the world, and are popular deer and boar hunting rifles in many countries. On top of this, many police departments utilize them with marksmen to put down highly dangerous targets, and a locally produced copy rifle is even the standard sniper rifle of Indonesia, and many military variants are in American military use. However, it has also caused its fair share of controversy when a CNBC television reported that dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries were caused by a design flaw with the original Walker triggers installed with the rifle, with many unintended discharges occurring with the rifle for no explainable reason. The rifles have since been modified with new triggers installed, and 7.85 million rifles were included in an agreement for trigger modification to settle many lawsuits and future legal actions against the company. Nevertheless, this has not largely affected the rifle's popularity and respect among the global market.

This particular model is the Remington Model 700P, chambered in Remington .223 (5.56x45mm NATO.) It features a moderate 20 inch fluted barrel, an internal 5 round box magazine and drills and tappings to add optical sights to the rifle. This rifle will spawn inside Chernarus police stations and police cars and can be fully loaded without the need for an external magazine, with access to 20 round 5.56x45mm NATO ammunition boxes spawning in the police stations and police cars as well. It can also be outfitted with the hunting scope to increase its range, the ATLAS bipod to offer a stable platform AND a cheek rest to help reduce recoil. Whilst lacking the power and range of the .308 rifles, when outfitted with the scope and bipod attachments, this rifle can be a fearsome weapon for dedicated marksmen at most typical combat ranges. It will also prove to be a valuable hunting rifle, able to place a precise shot on unsuspecting game from potentially several hundred metres away. This rifle will provide marksmen a much more precise and accurate rifle, at the cost of the stopping power and range of the Winchester Model 70 and CR527 Carbine. It will also be more easier to handle and manuever than the Winchester Model 70, but not as manueverable as the CR527. To bring the rifle to its full potential also requires a bit of searching - the rifle, ammunition and cheek rest is found in police station and police cars, the hunting scope is found in deer stands and wooden towers and the bipod is found in military tents.

I'd be really surprised if we didn't get an M700 type rifle (or M24) at some point - it's one of the few prolific .223 bolt-actions and unlike the Winchester M70 it's very common in police and military applications. The only major obstacle (besides redundancy) is that they might not want to make 5.56 a civilian spawn, and generally any police or military issue M700s are going to be in .308.

Another compact civilian and police firearm to suggest to compliment the upcoming Glock 19, the Kel-Tec SUB-2000.

The Kel-Tec SUB-2000 is a fairly affordable, and highly compact semi automatic pistol caliber carbine produced by Kel-Tec in Florida. A very basic blowback design, the SUB-2000 is reknowned for two of highly interesting features it holds. The first is that the firearm is foldable, providing an alternative to a take down firearm. The firearm folds in half at the end of the barrel, into a package only 16 inches long. The second feature is that the firearm can be loaded with various Glock, SIG, S&W and Beretta 9x19mm magazines, thus allowing the carbine to hold as little as 10 rounds to as many as 33 rounds or more in the magazine, which is loaded into the pistol grip like most semi automatic pistols. The carbine also weighs roughly only 2kg loaded, meaning it is highly lightweight and ideal for any shooter to handle comfortably, whilst being heavy enough to effectively control muzzle flip and recoil caused by the 9mm cartridge being fired.

The Carbine is far from perfect however - the action isn't known for its reliability and the firearm isn't the most durable design either. The blowback operation causes the bolt's large mass to destabilize the rifle when firing from its movement. And whilst it easily outranges any 9mm handgun, its effective range is still only 150m, which means long range firefights are not an option with this firearm. It isn't that accurate either. Nevertheless, these cons don't outweigh the carbine's fighting potential at short-medium range engagements with its semi automatic action and magazine capacity, and it's ability to be compactly stored and concealed allows much more room in the pack of any hiker.

In Day Z this firearm would effectively be a step up from the Trumpet (though it cannot use the hunting scope like the Trumpet,) as a collapsible/take-down firearm. Like the Trumpet, it can be disassembled/unfolded to store the rifle in a compact 2x3 slot package, allowing it to be carried as a backup that won't take up much space, or as a concealed primary firearm. It will also share magazines with the upcoming Glock 19, such as the standard 15 round magazines, the well known 33 round magazines or other larger or smaller capacity magazines they add in for the Glocks as well, meaning that these pistols could also be carried as effective secondary firearms to compliment the SJB-2000 at short range. It will spawn in residential locations (possibly in limited amounts in police stations as well) and be fairly uncommon. It will have very low recoil, and nice easy to use iron sights, but the 9mm cartridge still means that it will be very difficult to use beyond 100m with large bullet drop and fairly low velocity projectiles, meaning that the shooter will require some skill leading targets. It's damage output will also be fairly low. Attachments that may be fitted onto the firearm include the pistol suppressor, and M4 sights, much like the UMP. The carbine will also be very lightweight for a primary weapon, not hindering the player's movement or stamina much at all. Ultimately, as a civilian available firearm that can potentially use up to 33 round magazines, is semi automatic and collapsible/concealable, it will serve a very unique niche for those who like to use civilian firearms/stick to looting residential establishments, or sneak around with a lot of firepower hidden on them whilst posing as an unarmed, harmless bambi.

An alternative suggestion to my earlier suggestion of the Remington 700P - the Remington 7615P:

The Remington 7615P is an internationally popular pump action .223 caliber rifle that is marketed by Remington to supplement their world reknowned 870 series of pump action shotguns. Using detachable AR15 style box magazine, the Remington 7615 is popular in the civilian market in many European countries as well as Australia due it's rapid action and interchangeability of magazines with the AR15, whilst not being a semi automatic rifle and thus able to be exempt from many strict gun laws in these countries. The foregrip on the firearm acts as the pump, much like any other popular pump action shotgun or rifle. The rearward position opens the action, whilst the forward position closes the bolt, locks it and cocks the firearm to fire. Many police agencies around the world use the rifle due to the similarites in action to the Remington 870 Pump Action Shotgun, allowing ease of training in use. It is safely able to fire any .223 or 5.56x45mm NATO commercially available loads in the world and is reknowned for being highly reliable and highly accurate, whilst being fairly compact and lightweight. Much like the Remington 870 and Remington 700, the Remington 7615 is highly modular, with a wide variety of after market parts and accessories available for purchase - often times, also interchangeable with the Remington 870 or AR15 rifles, such as stocks, sights, grips, magazines, muzzle breaks etc.

In Day Z, this would be a civilian and police firearm that can be found in Chernarus, and utilize many shared parts with the M4A1 and Remington 870 (should the devs ever follow through with their announcement of its inclusion in the game 2 years ago,) such as all the M4 buttstocks, sights, bipods, suppressors, flashlights, magazines etc. Furthermore, it can also utilize the hunting scope to function as a faster firing and lesser recoiled rifle than the CR527, but lacking the CR527's stopping power. It can be spraypainted to decorate the rifle or even help camouflage it. It will have a fairly fast pump action (similar to the Trumpet's firing rate,) but require M4 magazines to fully function. In residential and police spawns you can find 5.56x45mm ammunition and 10 round magazines, however, larger capacity magazines may only be found in military loot spawns. This rifle ultimately when customized to reach its full potential can form to be a fearsome sniper firearm or even a close-medium range weapon, but still is outshined by its fully automatic competitors such as the M4A1 and Steyr AUG, and likely to be surpassed accuracy wise by the bolt actioned rifles. Nevertheless, the versatility and customizing of the firearm, whilst also providing a fairly fast sniper/hunting firearm that isn't too uncommon, the rifle is to be feared if all the necessary parts and magazines and found to bring it to its full potential.

Furthermore, it can also utilize the hunting scope to function as a faster firing and lesser recoiled rifle than the CR527, but lacking the CR527's stopping power.

In DayZ, contrary to popular conception 5.56x45 NATO rounds are MORE powerful than 7.62x39 rounds. This means that the 7615P would pretty much be objectively better than the CR527, except (possibly) in terms of weapon/attachment/ammunition rarity.

This is a particular reason as to why me and my brother have basically froze our progress on this thread.

For it is not the fault of the community, no, it is the fault of the devs themselves.

For when people complained about Chaingunfighter's suggestion of the implementation of a Golden AKM, no one seems to care about the "Golden Eagle" being implemented.

I, for one, have expressed my frustration with the developer's taste in firearm implementation in the past and have taken heat from the community for doing so, but now i need to express it once more.

I am not trying to make you all suffer from the lack of this thread being updated due to their mistakes, but me and my brother have other priorities in life currently that take up most of our time.

I will be possibly searching for someone to take the thread from my hands in time.

I'm doubtful - the model in the game files has new textures for .357 (before it said .44 and had actual IMI trademarks) and the magazine has also been worked on separately. Seems like a lot of effort to go through for a dumb joke.

Or, at least, a lot of effort for a dumb joke that won't ever actually be implemented. I'm sure this thing will start spawning sometime during DayZ's release.

==============================================================================

This is a message from me, Alexei's brother. It appears to me that the Dev's would rather try to make the game different from what it was meant to be. You see, DayZ is not a realistic survival simulator. Its rather a, ill find a gun and ill blow your fucking head off simulator. There are very few players that I enjoy playing with, and yes, I'm mentioning the military assholes who camp all day at Military Bases.

Dev's, why are you so blind from the community? Is it that hard to make the game even a little more realistic? Take a look at the zombies and melee combat, its complete non-sense. Oh, and before you say "OMG11ONE! ITS ALHPA11 DUDE11 !!!!!", shut up. Look how long the game has been out, and you call that acceptable for zombies and melee combat? It makes me want to puke. The Dev's have obviously had too much time on their hands and didn't choose to spend it wisely.

About a year ago, I made this image but refrained from posting it, in hopes that the game I had once had high hopes for wouldn't fail me again. But I'm posting it now because it describes EXACTLY what happened when Dean Hall left:

Comical, very comical, but it has its meaning. Dean Hall took your fucking money and left. Too many people are ignorant to realize that this game is a shitty mess, even since I saw that golden desert eagle. Really Dev's? What are you thinking? That's not what we fucking need. We need other things besides your unrealistic weapons and ammo that have no business on loot lists. Why shouldn't it be in the loot lists? Well lets take a look, why are even half of the fucking guns in this game spawning at civilian spawns? I mean jesus christ, The Winchester Model 70? Why not a Russian hunting rifle or something like that? But no, we had to have M4'S before we had AKM'S, and vice versa.

I rest my case.

Please keep in mind this is not Alexei posting this part of the comment.

Enjoy your ruined game guys

- Billwa

People didn't like the golden AKM idea because it's a pretty comical addition and there's no real need for it - and I agree with that sentiment. The same goes for this Desert Eagle, but that's about as far as it goes. There's really no reason such a stupid weapon should be causing you to act in such outrage.

Overall, the vast majority of the developer's decisions with weapons have been sensible or at least understandable (for example, 9x18mm being replaced by .380 ACP.) What's the problem with having M4s before AKs? Keep in mind that Dean himself was the one who decided to have the M4 made first, in order to test DayZ's new attachment system. AKs were always inevitable, so why does it matter which came first? Also, the Czech CZ-527 came before the Winchester, and no one ever said that the Model 70 was the last bolt-action rifle they're adding.

Yeah, a golden desert eagle is dumb, but it's just a pistol, and probably one that hardly anyone will ever encounter. It's not worth getting up in arms about, especially considering that the weapon list really doesn't matter until it's 1.0 and no more are being added. Until that point it's not really fair to judge the dev's choice with weapons, because we've still got quite a while before they're done adding new content.

The golden deagle is dumb should have made it silver would have been that one gun in that one house in that one town in that one map sort of thing. I think 7.92 Mauser should still be added for the 98 series, g43, and a few more Europeon hunting rifles I think the cz 550 chambers it I'm not sure it's a European cartridge.

I will not condone any form of argument on this thread.

If the admins wish to look into any future discussion on this thread then i highly suggest they do because i am sure the community does not want this thread to be terminated over a petty argument.

Please refrain from arguing over little things.

If my brother wishes to continue to speak his mind then allow him to do so, but if he starts to get aggressive and/or abusive please look into it.

Subcompact Pistols Time? I think so. So howabout the PF9?

The PF9 is a subcompact 9mm pistol developed by Kel-Tec in America for the purpose of every day carry/concealed carry and budget self defense. The gun is a simple, lightweight 9mm semi automatic pistol that Kel-Tec claims is the lightest and flattest 9mm pistol ever mass produced - the gun itself weighs only 360g. It holds a 7 round magazine of 9mm and has retail prices going for very relatively costs for a semi automatic pistol - often at $250USD or less. It uses a simple short recoil operation and is double action only with no external safety, designed to quickly put down a single attacker in an altercation (such as its infamous usage by George Zimmermann on Trayvon Martin.) It is reasonably accurate and easy to aim with its simple front blade and rear notch sights. The sights all have white dots on them as well to aid in having a clear sight picture in low light conditions.

In Day Z this gun is likely to be on par effectiveness wise as the Makarov Pistol, and offers the user a choice - do I take the larger Makarov pistol with better accuracy and an extra round in the magazine, or do I take the PF9 with its smaller size and slightly more powerful rounds? The pistol will also give Derringer users an alternative - two high power shots of .45ACP and no need for a magazine, or 7 shots of lower power 9mm and a detachable magazine and quick reload. It will only take up 2x1 slots in the inventory. The firearm will also only be able to be found in residential spawns, so may also be slightly more difficult to find than the Makarov. It may also mount a pistol flashlight giving this pistol an advantage over the Makarov and Derringer which cannot use flashlights, but it will not be able to use the pistol suppressor that other pistols use.

No doubt - so long as it's sufficiently rare I don't really care about it. Only one more loaded round (technically two) than the magnum isn't that great and the gold finish makes you an easy target, which also means there's no real gameplay incentive to make this spawn in large numbers. Hell, if it's a "one of a kind" item with like 10 or so in the whole game then I'd actually be okay with it. It's stereotypical but considering that Chernarus had a few people who bought gold-plated guns already established in the lore I don't think stereotypical would be an issue.

It's stereotypical but considering that Chernarus had a few people who bought gold-plated guns already established in the lore I don't think stereotypical would be an issue.

You're thinking of the .50 version of the Desert Eagle. The .357 version uses a 9-round magazine, so a player can actually have ten rounds loaded (9 in the magazine, one in the chamber). I'd say that's a pretty big advantage, but if it's as rare as it should be (i.e. essentially nonexistent) it won't be an issue.

On a side note, if they do go through with adding this gun I hope the magazines are just as rare as the gun itself or rarer, so we don't get nonsensical situations like the one we used to have, with the piles of UMP mags lying around everywhere while the gun itself was fairly rare.

Ah, right. Plus I guess with the fact that it's a semi-auto the reloads would be quicker assuming you somehow found two magazines.

Speargun anyone as a ranged weapon AND fishing tool? Been thinking a rubber band speargun would be amazing in Day Z as a survival fishing tool AND as an improvised short ranged weapon. Obviously, it would be single shot and muzzle loaded, and have horrid ballistics above water, but the impact of a long steel shaft impaling you would bed devastating and almost certain death if it strikes the torso or head, as well as being able to go through considerable amounts of clothing as well as cause bleeding or fractures. You would have to find a steel shaft spear or harpoon to start fishing, and the shafts can be picked back out of the water or off the ground to be reused (though if used above ground you may risk quickly degrading and damaging the spear gun and shaft.)

I don't know much about spear fishing and spear guns to provide any good information or suggestions though for a rubber spear gun in Day Z, so I can leave that up to you guys to make a suggestion for one. :)
