The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)

Recommended Posts

The AUG isn't "less powerful" than an M4. They use the same ammo (M193 ball for the AUG or M855 ball for the AUG/A3)

He may have been referring to the 9x19mm Steyr AUG Para, but those only come with 25 and 32 round magazines, so he still got something incorrect.

Forget guns, random objects which you can use as makeshift weapons are way better for a survival game like Day Z:

Kitchen Knives

Scissors

Rocks

Table/Chair Legs

Bottles

Pens

Lamps

etc.

You can already find kitchen knives, rocks, and pens. Not sure if rocks and pens can be used as weapons, but I honestly doubt you'd use a ballpoint pen as a weapon. Sure, there are some pens that are made of hard and sharp metal, but most are just plastic and would break when you tried to stab someone with it, giving them a minor cut at best. Table/chair legs and glass bottles (that can be broken) sound awesome, and I could stand lamps (can't really imagine someone keeping a lamp on their back)

AVT-40 was a god awful failure of a rifle though.

AVT-40 was a god awful failure of a rifle though.

Yeah, it was prone to breaking and simply could not be controlled. It was similar to the US' Vietnam-era M14s, which were also select-fire, and suffered from similar problems; they couldn't be controlled while firing in automatic. The M14s weren't designed in such a rush, though, so they didn't have the same reliability problems.

A good ol' SVT-40 is probably all we need.

Now here's a beautiful piece of craftsmanship for you civilians out there!

The

UTS 15 Shotgun

hell yea!!

Designed in Turkey, this could be an auxiliary weapon of choice for all you hunter-gathers-explorers out there. Perfect for Cherneruse, it could be placed in the game as one of the more rarer finds. Would be ideal for the police force, as this was its intended target user. Players could theoretically find these in abandoned police stations, abandoned vehicles, etc.

It actually chambers multiple shot. e.g. birdshot, buckshot and slug. You could switch between different modes during firing!

See this bad girl in action!

UTS-15 is an awesome shotgun, but it's an incredibly new design and hasn't had much time to spread around. Granted, neither has the FNX-45 or the new CZ-75 variant they chose for the CR75, so I guess as long as it were a helicopter crash or rare military weapon it'd be epic.

Nice topic! Is there a reason why there are no heavy sidearms on the list? If not I would like to suggest (as rare weapons):

Colt Anaconda, IMI Desert Eagle, Ruger Redhawk, Taurus Raging Bull (.44 Magnum)

Most of those would not be in Chenarus... The IMI Desert Eagle is a massively over used firearm since it is present in about 80% shooter games.  The Ruger Redhawk and the Colt Anaconda i am not so sure about although i know what they both are.  We already have the Colt Python (.357 Magnum) in the game currently, which in my opinion is a large caliber or "heavy handgun".  The Taurus Raging Bull is somewhat overused, but it is a firearm that i could see fitting in POSSIBLY.  I will not add any of those 4 to the list yet because i am unsure if the community would be in favor of them (especially the Desert Eagle).  Thank you for your feedback evil and God Bless!

I also submit a crafting idea.

players, if lucky enough to come across an outback gunsmithing depot, could  acquire some casings, gun powder, bullets, primers and possibly a hand-loading kit similar to this one below and maybe a hand-loader manual. In this way, they could begin fashioning their own ammo in small quantities.

ReloadingStandhomepage.jpg

Naturally, hand-loaded ammo might not be as accurate, and may be prone to jamming the weapon, not firing at all, or damaging the weapon, so it would take some skill to improve your success.

You'd also need to mount the kit securely on a sturdy bench, so it would require that you succeeded in setting up a temporary base of operations.

The hand loader would also need to find the right manual as well as equipment for the cartridge that he/she wishes to craft. As for shells, they could possibly reuse the spent casings that were undamaged after firing.

On this thread we are looking for weapons only, not creative tools like that.  However, that is an extremely good idea!

Is think swords should be the ultimate melee weapon. I am really the first one to suggest that? Many people have swords on their walls. They should be in houses, should be rare, but one strike should be lethal to humans and zombies.

I think the only military weapons that should be in DayZ should be those used by the CDF, Russians, Chedaki and NAPA guerillas and a few USMC weapons, This leaves plenty of room for a wide variety of military grade weapons while not going into the territory of weapons you wouldn't really find in Chernarus like AUGs, G36s and L85s. That I'd also like the spawn chance for top end military loot to be very very rare, and new more realistic military buildings and interiors, It seems doubtful that a CDF soldier is going to leave an M4 sitting on his bunk, new buildings like armouries would be shlick.

He may have been referring to the 9x19mm Steyr AUG Para, but those only come with 25 and 32 round magazines, so he still got something incorrect.

Firstly, the high velocity of M4 rounds makes the weapon much more deadly than the typical 5.56 NATO Assault Rifle.

Secondly, these weapons would be extremely rare and would only be found in helicopter crashes or other special structures.

Right now the Magnums (Colt Pythons) characteristic in DayZ is not its higher caliber (as far as I know it doesn't do any more damage than most other handguns) but being able to hold six bullets without a magazine (and its apparently very abundant ammunition). Thats why I suggested heavier handguns. Anyways thanks for the answer.

Allright now that there is a melee weapon section (some from the forums):

(Spiked) Knuckles

Rocks and Sticks

Katana or Shashka (or some other type of sword/sabre)

Hatchets (throwable)

Scythe (clumsy to use but good damage and causes bleeding)

Bardiche or Sovnya (if someone suggested swords... :) - those are Russian polearms, even though the Sovnya might be mistaken for a Naginata)

Whip (maybe more as a tool)

Scissors (also as a tool)

Razor (also as a tool)

I will try to keep the melee weapons realistic to the game.  Katanas or other asian style blades/ melee weapons will never be added to this list.  There is no chance in hell of finding a katana in Chenarus.
