DemonGroover 8836 Posted February 7, 2014 Just a quick question - Can anyone explain to me what the attraction of roaming the wastes of Chernarus in a 10 man group is? I'm not knocking it - i am just curious.
bfisher 561 Posted February 7, 2014 I'm not in a clan, but I've teamed up with groups of random people I've met. There are benefits like safety or having people to chat with. It was more useful in the mod when there were lots of zombies everywhere.
skyline-gtr 130 Posted February 7, 2014 I think the main reason for this type of behaviour is comradery.Another one is strength in numbers.
pants! 83 Posted February 7, 2014 I don't know but I think you can get a cream that will help with it.
DemonGroover 8836 Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) I understand but some of these groups i see are 10-12 men strong. A group like that cannot be stealthy and can be see a mile away. How i long for grenades and satchel charges.... Edited February 7, 2014 by DemonGroover

AgainstArseholes 12 Posted February 7, 2014 It's like a circle-jerk of a group of insecure guys too afraid to not over-dominate... that or clan wars, which sound fun.
TheWanderingMan 170 Posted February 7, 2014 ^^People just love to pretend that they are in the military or they enjoy playing with others. This game is infinitely more fun playing as a group, not knocking solo play at all but clans are a winner.
DemonGroover 8836 Posted February 7, 2014 I agree that PvP between groups is great but i have never seen a 12 v 12 clanwar - it would be great to watch.

Jack Dant 158 Posted February 7, 2014 I guess the fun would be in teamwork and interaction. It also gives people something to work towards, since there's someone in a group that needs gearing up. A 10 man group in a 40 man server seems a bit excessive, but would make a great target for some guerrilla stuff.
DemonGroover 8836 Posted February 7, 2014 Swannies man here, you guys deserve a win in my book :) Ahh, i love the Swannies...i grew up in Sydney, but the Swans weren't around when i picked a team to follow.

I'd love to wage some guerrilla warfare on a large group - set some satchel charge traps and the like. Sure you'd probably end up dead but it would be fun. Those large groups are so sure they are invincible they often flail around when attacked by surprise. If a couple good players hit them hard and fast by surprise, they can do a lot of damage.
skyline-gtr 130 Posted February 7, 2014 RPG from a defendable position would be cool also.
Karmaterror 982 Posted February 7, 2014 We had a large group on the mod, but we played in private servers, so it was full of groups varying in size. Had a few 6v6 or around 6ish per side fights. Usually when we would see another group in there car and us in ours. It was fun to get back to camp as a team and have a laugh over the nights events. It does make you feel a lot safer, and with every team member that you have the chance that bandit can drop you all is reduced loads. I agree that in a group you just arent stealthy at all. We once got spotted by a guy at NEA. He saw one of us who didnt have a ghillie and that led to him spotting the rest of us. He took out me with first shot and a couple of my buds before they found and dropped him. Both styles have there advantages and drawbacks. And (for me) both can be fun. But i think the main reason is safety. I also think that large groups forming is quite realistic. Hate to use it but look at "The Walking Dead", that ended up as 2 groups going to war down to differences in leadership. If the situation was as it is in-game, most people would try to talk to another person before just shooting them, they would then help eachother survive. Its only when 2 groups come together and have different ways of doing things that fighting occurs. Actually thats not far off how civilisation in general goes :)
thelonewarrior 886 Posted February 7, 2014 I had a 8 man group yesterdayOnce we get to 6 we usually split into two groups and so on and stay within 3-4 km of each other in case the other group needs helpI find you have an infinite amount more options as two 4 man squads or 3 ( if you have 12 people) than you do as one large groupFunny thing was, while I was running to the rest of the group I saw about 6 players( full server)And as 8 men, we saw no one after doing Cherno, balota, kamenka military base and zenogorskAlso we could have 4 men sniper cover and 4 men on the ground at balota looting, with that many eyes no one approaching goes unnoticed But id still rather stick to 4-5 man squads
bobotype3334 160 Posted February 7, 2014 Large groups would be sick, so many possibilities. Vehicluar convoys, landmines, minesweepers and the like. Although we do have to remember this is a zombie apocalypse, so of course larger groups would have to attract more zombies. Seeing as players can spot a large group of players better from farther away, why doesn't the same apply to zombies? They just have a set "range" to sight. DemonGroover 8836 Posted February 7, 2014 I'd like to see a large group take and hold a town - that would be cool seeing a whole town under guard.
kichilron 8550 Posted February 7, 2014 Just a quick question - Can anyone explain to me what the attraction of roaming the wastes of Chernarus in a 10 man group is? I have yet to find a group that would be capable of dealing with that. Usually it would just end up with a lot of screaming in TS and noone actually listening to the other. I usually avoid groups, I like playing alone and if anything I play with one more guy. But then again I am trying to be serious about this and rather go about on my own, because everyone else would be bored with my playstyle, which is purely out for survival and stealth. I don't think groups of that size running around are taking the game as seriously - I suspect they're actually just messing around having fun. Pft - having fun in DayZ - not with me. :D
kichilron 8550 Posted February 7, 2014 I'd like to see a large group take and hold a town - that would be cool seeing a whole town under guard. Would be what I last said again - there are hardly any groups that would be organised enough to do that. They would be infiltrated within seconds while they are all still screming: "IS THAT YOU? THAT YOU? HOW MANY ARE WE?"
