Ivanho (DayZ)

How I shat my pants over nothing

Recommended Posts

So yesterday night I was still playing DayZ, when the Server I played on contained two players including me.

I just looked for loot on the roof of the Firefighter-Station in Cherno, when I decided to roll myself a cigarette and think about where to log out. (I think it is very very nice, that one has a 30 sec timer now, because it really forces you to plan ahead, even when you want to stop playing)
So i layed there in the dark night feeling pretty safe.

Suddenly i hear shots of a M4. Instant adrenaline-rush. Smashing my cigarette into the ashtray I reposition myself (IRL) from lazy-hangaround to full-combat-stance.
What do? I look around and see a shadow running across the street in some distance. My chance. I climb down the ladder to the roof below, lay down and start to look out. Bang Bang Bang. More shots..... HOW DOES HE SEE ME, WHERE THE F* IS THAT GUY. Hands are shaking by now and in the back of my head I think to myself: "how unlucky. 2 guys on the server and he sees me first." 5 minutes pass by in which I reposition myself carefully and he sprays more bullets around cherno.

Then I see him again. Running across a street. He shoots again.... slowly i realize:

He is not shooting at me.

He doesn't even know I am close by.

He is shooting Infected.

For practise of what ever....

I get back to lazy-hangaround-stance, pick up my cigarette and calm myself.

End of the story.

Morale of the story: Think before you panic and this game is incredebly awesome.

I have to go outside to smoke. Every time I AFK to go out side I panic thinking I will be coming back to a death screen.

Good story man.

If anyone ever wrote the Survivors guide to the Zombie apocalypse; It would be insanely complicated, and this would be one of the reasons why the snug plastic cover it would fit into would have the words DON’T PANIC printed on it in large friendly letters.

Haha this is so recognizable.

Never experienced that sudden adrenaline rush before in a computer game.

Yes, DayZ has that effect.. This has been the only game I think I've played that gets the heart racing with a nice adrenaline rush!  Love it!

I think panic is what makes the game so addicting! We all long for that adrenaline rush. Like you said in your post, "My chance." That very slight chance that he was shooting at you and you were going to have to make a life or death decision is what makes this game so great!

You should start using snus!

Saves you from going AFK every 15 minutes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snus

That stuff smells and tastes like absolute crap in my opinion. My mate baked me a super strong snus once and i actually went super dizzy from it. I felt like i was about to pass out and i got sick for days after. Now i cringe everytime i smell someone using it and whenever i think about it haha.

I've damned near shat my pants over my own shadow before now. Creeping down some stairs past a window with the full moon shining through it. As I turned to head down the next flight of stairs I see this silhouette at the bottom, about half a mag later I notice that my target still hasn't dropped and that I'm not getting shot at. Felt a bit foolish when I figured out what I was shooting at.

"Just a tree. sorry."

In no way, this story connects to OPs story, but once I put a cockroach in a snus box. 15 minutes later it was dead. ..and they say cockroaches can survive anything! Makes you pretty dizzy, too.

Oh, and a few days ago I saw something moving in the distance and hit prone immediately. After further inspection I confirmed that it was a signpost. Everything is scary in DayZ.

I climbed down from a roof top that I had been laying on for about 5mins. and walked a short distance over to some garages. I noted that some garage doors had been opened. Instant paranoia so I climbed the nearby santa tower and immediately saw two players crouched moving below. Shat myself again right there. Didn't do anything for a while but watch them until one guy climbed the roof top I'd been on earlier. He then stood there trying to find the ladder so I used that opportunity to shoot him. His friend ran around a bit below as I tried to shoot him too. He eventually climbed up to where his friend lay dead before I shot him too. It was the best feeling and I logged out shortly after on a high!! They were carrying shotguns so chances are if I hadn't have struck first when I did, they would have nailed me!

You should never be relaxed when positioned on the firestation roof. Remember night is no cover at all, since most players playing nightservers gamma exploit.
