Stahp Rocket! You're ruining teh Alpha!

Recommended Posts

First of all I just want to say that I DO enjoy the game even though it's an early access alpha. It was perfectly fine until a few patches ago. Why are the developers seemingly going out of their way to make it harder and harder for fresh spawns to do anything?

First of all they removed the spawns along the south coast. Fair enough this was pretty much needed as it stopped people from constantly suiciding in order to spawn at Balota / Cherno / Elektro in order to grab weapons and then turn on their fellow fresh spawns, but this basically resulted in everyone spawning in Solnichniy over and over and over again. Bandits regularly set up camp looking over the town and the factory just so they can kill people with no chance of them fighting back.

Second of all they reduced the spawn rate of weapons, Both the M4 and Mosin had their spawn rate reduced as well as both the handguns. Then they added in the shotgun which I have only ever seen one of in over thirty hours of gameplay since that patch. And now they've added the SKS which will probably be just another AS50 scenario of snipers sitting in every nook and cranny at Solnichniy in order to gun down fresh spawns. These changes have made it seemingly impossible to find weapons along the coast.

So now the only option for me to have a chance of surviving is to run inland straight away and head to one of the military camps or airfields? And what will happen once I get there? I'll either be gunned down before I get anywhere near some loot by a baby bush camping bush wookie bandit, or I'll get geared up and then be forced to come back to the coast in order to find someone to shoot at. That's just not enjoyable in the slightest.

You need to either bring back the spawns along the south coast or increase the weapon spawn rate. In the past thirty hours of playing I have not had a sniff of a weapon. The only weapons I've seen as of late have been the ones in the hands of fresh spawn killing bandits when they've been pointed at my face.

And please, to all you loyal fanatics who devote every waking moment of your lives to playing DayZ, don't bother screaming "BUT IT'S ALPHA!" at me like it's the ultimate shield of denial. You'll just be wasting your time. I'm finding myself spending far more time on Rust than I am on DayZ. Both games are early access alphas but at the moment Rust is far more enjoyable as at least on there I have a chance of fighting back against the multitude of fresh spawn killing bandits.

Spawn rates for weapons were always going to be very low. They are going to emphasise the SURVIVAL aspects of the game. Honestly, I don't think this is the game for you.

If the game is broken, why was I able to fully kit myself from a bambi in just over two hours?

In the past three weeks of playing, I have not visited ONE airfield or ONE military base, not even Green Mountain... no Prisons, no barracks, no ATC's, no Firestations... and, you know what? I was still able to get multiple characters fully geared. One with an M4 and a Magnum. One with an SKS and a Magnum, and another with a Mosin and a Magnum... and all with hunting backpacks...

I believe the lowering of weapon spawns is a step in the right direction, getting a weapon shouldn't be the first priority. Food and supplies should be first. My buddy and I spent awhile on a 30/40 experimental server scrounging for food, looking through each looted house in each town while we made our journey west from spawning in Solichniy. We found a can or two per town and survived just fine sharing what we could. We made it to Stary and were bombarded with food everywhere. THEN after we were set up supplies wise, we went to look for weapons. The people who complain about finding no found are simply lazy.

Also, there have  been numerous times where I have killed fully geared people with an axe and/or shovel.

As for the "being gunned down at the airfield" thing, I have ran through Balota and NWAF on a 40/40 server without encountering a soul. I actually have a higher percentage of survival on airfields than coast towns.

Getting off the coast to avoid bandits has been the way since the mod. When i spawn wether its mod or SA....i bolt for the treeline lol

Firstly, they didn't reduce the spawns specifically along the coast. That's just a flat out lie. There is however a bug that causes many buildings to not spawn any loot. However, that doesn't prevent you from getting enough food, even in the coastal regions of the map. Of course if they were already looted, then yes going inland is your only option.

Secondly, the reduced spawnrate of weapons didn't affect the gearing up of my character in any significant way. Before the reduced spawnrate, I'd frequently find more weapons than I need. However I still seem to be doing just fine at acquiring both a pistol and a main weapon with ammo included. It is however slightly harder to find the attachments for the gun now that the military camps are bugged out and they spawn less. Though this has actually improved the game.

And lastly, it's an alpha...

Your post was great. This made me LOL; "or I'll get geared up and then be forced to come back to the coast in order to find someone to shoot at."

Actually, if you've played 30 hours and cant find a gun- thats your issue, not the games. I found a gun in the first 30 minutes of being a fresh bambi and I didnt SH or go to a military base last night. Not sure how it is now, but that was last night.

To me, the whole thing can be solved relatively pretty easy. Right now, there is a failure because most weapons spawn at the military bases, so, naturally, everyone goes there. Solutions are simple:

1.) have weapons spawn in randomly in random places. Its not so far fetched to find a gun in a home now, is it? Russians didnt have guns?

2.) lower the spawn rate of weapons at military bases that way, its not mandatory to go there for a weapon.

3.) have loot/weapons spawn in at random times, that way there's no need to SH and zero need for a timer, and no need for a hunt for a "fresh server".

4.) combat log timer is mandatory

5.) have 30 bambi spawns all over the map- dont limit it to the coast- anywhere a town is is fair game.

This is the way you will die dude. You play the game wrong.

You can find out youself what you are doing wrong or use this.

how is it a survival game if you have everything you need in 1 hour?

survival means you must scrape around different area's to find loot and items you need to survive.

if everything was too easy to find it turns into a kos free for all because nobody cares about gear.

make it damn near impossible to get kitted out over a few days and watch the amount of player interactions go down for fear of losing all the stuff you had to look for over a few days.

now i know kos would still be there but you would tend to run through the woods more carefully then just down the middle of the road.

entering large area's would put the fear of god in you, and would make it that much more exciting to grab a few shotty shell's a can of beans and make it out alive.

making items easier IMO would ruin what this game has the potential to be.

Weapons do spawn somewhat randomly, but as with everything in the alpha this is a work in progress.

2.) lower the spawn rate of weapons at military bases that way, its not mandatory to go there for a weapon.

There's no specific reason to lower the spawnrate at military bases. They however should be risky to approach due to the amount of zombies. This is not the mod, zombie behaviour tweaks could make them far more dangerous.

3.) have loot/weapons spawn in at random times, that way there's no need to SH and zero need for a timer, and no need for a hunt for a "fresh server".

Already being worked on.

4.) combat log timer is mandatory

Already in the game.

5.) have 30 bambi spawns all over the map- dont limit it to the coast- anywhere a town is is fair game.

Bad idea, you don't want newbies to spawn near high risk locations, because they will either gear up way too fast, or become food for hungry snipers/zombies. Though they should definitely widen the area of potential spawns. The coast also serves as a way of providing newbies with a sense of direction, until they learn to use other means of navigation. Instead of just Solnichniy and Kamyshovo(sometimes Berezino), they could reintroduce the spawns at Kamenka, Komarovo. And perhaps places like Staroye, Polana and Pavlovo. But keep them away from going too far north at once. You can then balance the game around traveling north, where it becomes increasingly hard to survive but more specialised loot spawns there.

May I point out that you cannot ruin and Alpha.

If you have to report some bugs or have some suggestions then there are proper procedures for doing so.

WARNING: THIS GAME IS EARLY ACCESS ALPHA. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME AND ARE PREPARED TO HANDLE WITH SERIOUS ISSUES AND POSSIBLE INTERRUPTIONS OF GAME FUNCTIONING.

To survive you don't need weapons.

You only need beans and water to survive.

Here's a hint. Go to dubky north of cherno for a few restarts. It has 3 grocery stores, a school house and a hospital building which spawns firearms and their related components. I have found everything gun related in that town except M4 mags and FNX mags (but who can find FNX mags easily anyway) and i've been healthy for as long as my character has been there.

On another good point, it is almost always empty (in the past 4 days on a populated server i have seen one person) and it is above cherno, which means that 90% of people in the area will stay there and die from snipers or move on to Balota and so on.which means they aren't likely to go past the stores, hospitals and firestation in Cherno.

All good info. I'm having a lot of success in and around Gvozdno. Three settlements all relatively close together. Far enough away from the two northern airfields to be fairly safe, and the loot is usually okay. There is occassional foot traffic, but it's pretty easy to avoid unless your looking for that interaction.

This entire forum loves walls of text. So many of these threads are just such specific stories of whining. And I thought the tf2 forums were the worst... Almost everyone, especially the children, think they are game designers.

Cool story bro.

My strategy before the updates:

Spawn in cherno

Get 3 cans of noms and an axe.

Go to stary

My strategy AFTER the updates:

Spawn in Solnichniy

Get 2 cans of noms and an axe

Go to stary

Point aside, I haven't seen much of a drop in rarity. Sure, I only find a Magnum in barracks rather than 2 M4A1s and an SKS, but what fun would heading to balota, and instantly having the best item in the game be?

In reality, if there was a zombie apocalypse, you wouldn't find guns everywhere.

Well, I never have any trouble as a fresh spawn, sure sometimes the first town I get to is looted but then I just head inland anyway.

The object of the game is not A) get gun B ) shoot people on coast.  Its A) survive  B ) survive.

Now admittedly survival is too easy at the moment, a player can get geared and have all the food and water they can carry in a few hours... well then you just switch up your play style from "survival" to pvp, then when you eventually die, start again.  Honestly the getting geared is the most enjoyable part of the game so I'm almost happy when I eventually get kill and have to start again.

- spawn points are WIP, we wont see final distribution of spawn points for many months to come

- loot tables and loot spawns are WIP, currently its just throwing the new items at the testers in arbitrary amounts. loot will not be balanced until well into beta, means at earliest point in a year

- if you think you need military gear to survive, you have fundamentally misunderstood how this game works

my conclusion: OP is clueless
