carcinovich 156 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) Some books in DayZ teach you interesting in-game combinations (ex: how to make an improvised backpack with canvas/rope/twigs, and other crafting choices). Something to consider: Some water-heaters may provide for a safe, indoor water source. This could be added to some locations. Realistic loot spawns from objects. For example, guns from gun cabinets, food/drinks from fridges, office supplies from desks, ammo from ammo boxes, clothes from closets/dressers. Most of the time in DayZ is spent scavenging. Let's make that more interesting, realistic and fun. I want to *feel* like I'm looting and ransacking a place. Possible alternative solution for server-switching penalty timers: What if switching servers deactivated visibility of all loot for *your character only* within a limited range? This would, in effect, force server-hoppers to move outside of the general vicinity in order to find loot. This could effectively curb-stomp server-hopping issues altogether. This may be a controversial idea, but hey, that's what this forum is for. Thanks for reading. Can of beans for your thoughts? And as always, hats off to the devs. Edited February 5, 2014 by carcinovich
jesquik 75 Posted February 3, 2014 Definitely like the idea of crafting books, that would be awesome, especially if you find a really good survival book. I bet there are some publishers that would love to put their book in the game, along with the isbn number. People could read it in game and purchase it on Amazon when they realize it is quite useful. Also like the loot based off of the loot location / type of room. That would definitely help the atmosphere.
- Karma - 75 Posted February 3, 2014 The first two ideas I love, the third idea has merits but I think is overly complicated from a programming perspective. Plus it would lead to much forum butthurt.

blackberrygoo 1416 Posted February 4, 2014 Third ideas Great , takes time to change loot tables but it shouldn't be too hard it's in a day z mod already along with searchable containers which dayz standalone is working on at least searchable fridges :0
Ironclad11 8 Posted February 4, 2014 Indeed, I like the containers idea too. It'll be a lot more immersive and better than the current "find random things on the floor" system.

Well, models at least. They're not usable, obviously.
fisheye 21 Posted February 4, 2014 Good ideas, realistic and, in my opinion (but what do I actually know...), easy to implement. I also like the idea of server hopping prevention. They could change that 5 minutes of penalty waiting to - for example - 10 minutes of invisible loot in a radius. But let's see how the current system will work out.
NagsterTheGangster 388 Posted February 4, 2014 Mad beans dog, especially for the server hopping thing.

DMentMan 707 Posted February 5, 2014 or burn books to keep a fire alive?
carcinovich 156 Posted February 5, 2014 At the very least, there should be a steam achievement for burning books. The world has ended, and here you are, burning books as firewood. It's almost poetic.
Chaingunfighter 917 Posted February 5, 2014 The only problem I have with the third idea is that the game leaves your character in the world after leaving the server so hiding in buildings would become very annoying even if you weren't combat logging (I think wandering zombies can still kill you if they see you)
