Preface
 
So let me start by saying I'm shocked that something like this isn't already stickied.  I see that we get a lot of great ideas, but as with any forums the same ideas come up in the same posts over and over.  So hopefully we can gather the more popular ideas here as a one-stop-shop for the Devs if they are willing to check out what we have to say (and where they also know they ideas have already been vetted by the community).

How This Should Work
 
I will use this post to organize a listing of items we would like to see that are generally agreed upon by the community.  If it can't go into your inventory, I'm not going to post it - i.e. cars.  I may very well do a similar post for game play ideas if this goes well. 
 
The first sequence of posts will be any item either in the experimental builds or confirmed rumored from reputable sites or directly from the Devs.  After that any entry with a link will be someone else's idea - apologies if you feel offended that I didn't ask for permission to link, and apologies if you had posted the idea much earlier but I brought a later entry as the link.  Feel free to provide links, I can't get to them all and to save time I'll start from the newest and work my way back.  Any entry without a link an idea with many smaller links.  I'm only going to consider ideas that have been generally well received by the community (even if I hate it personally) - i.e. has a poll with a 2:1 positive ratio (using a poll is the easiest way for me to see if it is a popular idea or not), or a thread with many beans given out and minimal derailment (within reason). 

 

I'll take ideas put into this thread directly as well, provided they get beans/upvotes.  If something is put in and community response changes, I'll take it out.  If someone has better information than me regarding rumors, I'll change it.  Something to remember when making suggestions is to take into account Loot Table Dilution - the more items you put in, the worse the loot tables get.  Before making a suggestion, ask yourself - does something else in the game already do that?  If so, would this really add to the game enough to make it worth the Devs while?
 
I ask that we please not turn this thread into a debate.  I'll provide the links so that if you want to debate, go to the source and do it there please to reduce clutter - don't shoot the messenger :)

I was going to put it on the list....then I was like "Is that an equipped item?  If so, does that make it a fake beard?  If it is fake, does that then mean that those of us who really have beards don't get the special powers that comes along with them?".  Too many questions, not enough answers.  Had to leave it out :P

 

But yes, please give us the option for beards Devs.

I guess none of the weapons are 'confirmed' but it's safe to say that they will be in considering the devs have talked about them more than once and released screenshots.

I see - I guess then I'll have to determine whether to change the status to "confirmed" or not.  That all looks legit though, not that I'm doubting you but...interwebz, right?  I agree it's all highly likely, I just wanted to leave things "rumored" until they made the experimental builds - just because it's on experimental build doesn't guarantee it in the game, but it's likely then.  See what I'm saying?  I don't know, what do you think -should I add a "confirmed" tag?  Your guys' call - this page is for the whole community, not just me :)

It's not not "my" site, I just contribute to it. Not a lot of people do, though, which kind of sucks, because I find that almost all DayZ resources are incomplete at the moment.

hell yeah on this thread, as long as they bring in facial bandanna and boonie i'm set. 

 

are they not thinking of adding in another bolt action rifle? cz-550 would be great, and a better scope which allows for ranging of targets. The scope from the mod cz-550 would be lovely.

Title could perhaps use some work, changed to something about Inventory items.

Not 100% on this but is it not true that in the current state of the game, alot of those bigger guns, do not go into your inventory ?

But guns DO go into your inventory.  Anything on the right side of the "Tab" screen is part of your inventory.  I'll think about the title, but even then I thought I explained it well in the first few lines - sorry if you thought this was something else.

No thats fine about the guns, it just I had heard reports to the contrary.

 

Yeah I understand you explained it in the first few lines, thats what made me think there was something wrong with the title.

 

 

edit: now that I think about it, it may have been that those guns dont fit in your backpack...

Updated with a few new items, you can find them in italic.  A few weapons, weapon slings, customizable clothing for indentifiers like armbands, etc.  Man do a lot of people start threads about the same subjects :O

I'm going to drop this here too - I know I already acknowledged that this thread was like a brainstorm session, but hopefully people can see why we shouldn't have every single weapon they want in the game.

 

 

Some good suggestions in this list.  I think what we really need to remember is the more we ask/demand the Devs add, the worse the Loot Table Dilution is going to be.  I keep mentioning this, and it is not without cause.  Surely we can get by with one or two examples to fill each roll?  Take shotguns for example.  Right now we already have one in game, it looks like the Remington 870 is coming, and then they are adding the Blaser 97 Over/Under barrel - just not sure if the rifle or shotgun version.  But if it is the shotgun version, well yes - they are three distinctive shotguns.  Two have a one-two shot mode, one is a pump action.  They are all shotguns however, is whether you fire from over/under or side-by-side that important?  All I'm saying is, fill the roles first - no semi-automatic shotguns?  I'm not even talking mil-spec, or at least not full-auto - chaingunfighter mentioned some really good options above, especially the Saiga 12 which would make a lot of sense.

 

We have no SMG right now.  We have no LMG right now.  To be honest I don't know if we need either, but you can see what I'm saying.  I don't think we need three more bolt-action, 5 round mag, WWII era rifles.  I don't think we need a dozen different assault rifles.  Once they add the AK-74M, maybe add an HK and/or an FN as another NATO based rifle.  Once they add the CZ-75 pistol, maybe add in a Makarov and/or GSh-18 which are two very popular Russian-region pistols in military and police service - plus the Makarov would have had huge surplus from the Soviet-era, so I'm sure you can get one today in Eastern Europe no problem.  Once the add the Ruger 10/22, maybe add another bolt-action hunting rifle like a CZ or a Remington - maybe, because don't they just fill the same roll as the Mosin?  If we did all of what I suggested above, including one SMG and one LMG we are up to 14 firearms in the game.  And that is not even counting the impending bows/crossbows.

 

Surely those kinds of numbers are enough, even if we didn't use the specifically mentioned weapons?  Fourteen weapons can be a lot if you are looking for a specific one of those.  The other thing to keep in mind is, if you're mentioning a weapon that is not chambered in an existing caliber (or soon to be existing caliber, which will be the 5.45x39mm, 9x19mm, and .22 caliber) then we need even more ammo types.  More ammo types will mean it will be that much harder to find specific ammo for the weapon you do manage to find.

True, but I hope the "let's only add niche weapons" ideal is only true until we have weapons filling said niche. I don't want the game to end Fallout-style with only one weapon of each type.

 

It's gonna get annoying seeing the same guns every time you run across someone who fills a particular role (Every sniper using the Mosin-Nagant, most general players using an SKS/Ruger 10/22, etc.)

For sure.  I guess I should have said get a weapon in the game for the major roles, add for some of the niche roles, then fill it out with a few extras based on taste, regional accuracy, or even that old-school feeling.  In your exact example, I would say let's have the Mosin, the SVD, the Ruger, and a .308 hunting rifle maybe (or appropriately chambered rifle for an ammo already in game would be even better).  I would say more or less all our bases are covered unless the community has to have an anti-material rifle too.  I guess if Rocket and the Super Team (not smartassery, you guys are super) get environmental damage going down the road anti-material rifles could be a lot of fun.

 

Honestly, I think we're on the same page - not even sure why I'm posting this response lol.

 

Edit - out of curiousity chaingunfighter, do you know if the upcoming Blaser B97 is going to be the rifle version or the shotgun version?  does anyone else know for sure?  I just assumed it would be the shotgun, didn't realize it could be an over/under rifle too - on the website the manufacturer seems to indicate that the shotgun version is the B95.
