New Canned Food

Recommended Posts

-Canned Food-

With the Developers working on what loot will be found where. Random or not - Let's discuss what food can be found.

Survivors, of all kinds, all struggle to find food in Chernarus. Where the hell is it? You think all there is to survive on is rotten kiwi and beans? No. I don't think so. So let's begin. We'll list some canned food you would expect to come across in a facility, home, or tent-

Fruit -

  • Peaches
  • Apricots
  • Mandarins
  • Oranges
  • Blueberries
  • Apples
  • Mango
  • Pears
  • Applesauce
  • Pineapple
  • Cherries

Vegetables -

  • Sliced Potatoes
  • Sliced Carrots
  • Green Beans
  • Corn
  • Peas
  • Black Eyed Peas
  • Olives
  • Asparagus
  • Artichoke Hearts
  • Peeled Tomatoes
  • Mushrooms
  • Beets
  • Peppers
  • Okra
  • Zucchini

Meat & Poultry -

  • Chicken Breast
  • SPAM
  • Ham
  • Corned Beef
  • Roast Beef
  • Vienna Sausage
  • Pork

Seafood

  • Tuna
  • Pink Salmon
  • Albacore
  • Sardines
  • Crab Meat
  • Clam Meat
  • Oyster Meat
  • Mackerel
  • Caviar
  • Octopus Legs

I would continue on with a list of perishable foods, but I want to discuss one thing at a time here. Please - Constructive criticism and productive responses. Let's produce the best survival game the history of gaming has ever seen.

Vegetables -

  • Olives
  • Mushrooms

Meat & Poultry -

  • SPAM

Fixed for you, and beans given.  If it's added I hope to the Turtle Gods we get to actually cook it.  Spam gets a bad wrap becasue people eat it when it's pink and slimy.  Cut it thin and pan fry that bitch till its red and crispy and its as good as bacon.

I wasn't proposing we add every item on the list, this is just a variety to decide on. God why would someone eat SPAM un-cooked?

Was just kidding as that's what I eat, but honestly all these would make great additions, especially when they add in the cooking mechanic.  Getting fancy up in this Zombie Apocalypse.  A mushroom and garlic rice dish with seared spam.  And for desert, canned tangerines cooked in a NotaCola reduction peaches with heavy cream (2 packets of dried milk to one bottle of water).

I've been pondering stuff like this as well, as in just how much variety do we need of items that realistically do the same thing - in this case the example would be "give food".  Your list is well put together and comprehensive, but my concern is would having that many added items and the variety it brings be better for the game?  Yes it would I suppose, but my concerns are if cluttering the loots tables would lead to larger issues.

I would personally say maybe take a few items that offer a unique difference to what we already have, such as:

- Canned Mixed Fruit - a healthy choice with near instant energy return

- Canned Mixed Vegetables - another healthy choice, but more hardly than the fruit

- Canned Ham - a high protein choice

- Tin of Caviar - in keeping with the Russian theme, basically a luxury item

I would add those four items to the Loot Tables, rather than added the 20+ specific ones you have only for simplicities sake.  What do you think?

Great Idea Karma, adding alot of items to the loot table may make optimization a little more difficult. Just some variety in food may make the game more conceivable.

Exactly AsHawkins - of the four I mentioned, two are unique, canned ham (or other similar protein) is a variant but could have differences from Tuna, Sardines, etc in energy/water/nutrient values, and like I said for Caviar would just be for the Russian setting.  Optimization of the loot tables should be the key.  I totally understand people want all sorts of things in the game, but at some point a line has to be drawn so the tables don't get diluted to the point that even items that should be common are actually uncommon (if you were say specific looking for a green hoodie), and rare items are so rare some people never see them in over 100 hours of play.

Not that I'm a huge fan in real life (lol), but you're idea to have some veggies and fruit in the game is great.  Berries are either in or making their way in, so who knows - maybe fresh vegetables too?  Once things like persistent camps or bases and game animals are realized, maybe plant a garden or herd some deer lol?  Could be a valuable commodity haha.

I am constantly pushing the idea of farming. To have the ability to grow food and have to protect it? How intense could that get? Possibilities are endless, and Alpha is the perfect time to stretch it.

Variety is fun, but aren't they going to, or will impliment a hunting/gathering ability and should add in fishing?

We dont really need more canned food but more diverse sources of food. There is pumpkins and appletrees en masse.

*altho that "tactical bacon" looks yummy.

As for improving canned food: give the abillity to warm up a can or 2.

*warm food could help a bit against sickness or prevent it, if all your clothes are wet or damp.*

i like more variety... but imo those foods should spawn less when they introduced the hunting part of the game...

You realize of course, no I want a "Can-Gun" that can launch cans of beans and "sketti" accross the russian landscape? as long as it goes "ruined" when it hits other people, it should be fun to fire it off buildings at others ><

I know it is, I meant cooked as in put on a skillet and dried out a little bit. Or heated up at least.

Is adding new varieties of food even a good idea? Or is everyone alright with canned beans, it's just food. Nothing too important.
