cj14 189 Posted January 31, 2014 I love DayZ and it's emotional, psychotic gamestyle I know the point is survival/realism and I like it, I also know how hard would be to add some kind of progression to the long term players and endgame content. But since the game is on Steam, some achievements would be cool...I have some rough ideas for what achievements could be: -Chernarrussian: Kill 100.000 zombies-Zombie-free man: Kill 1000 zombies with the crowbar-Traveler: Run 5.000 Kms-Survivalist: Survive 1 week-Server Loyalist: Register a total of 24 hours on the same server-Iron Chef: Cook 100 food items-Shh!: 2000 zombies killed with melee weapons-Sniper: 2000 zombies killed with scoped weapons-Steve: Craft 200 items-Looter: Loot the corpses of 50 fallen survivors-Doc: Heal 50 players-Hunter: Kill and gut 100 animals-Hero: Heal 500 players and kill 100 bandits-Professional Driver: Drive 10.000 Kms-Tester: Eat all the food items-Pills Here!: Consume 100 painkillers-Max Pain: Consume 500 painkillers-Tourist: Complete the Chernarus full map-Firefighter: 1000 zombies killed with the Fire Extinguisher-Let me Axe you a Question: 1000 zombies killed with the Fire Axe-Eating Disorder: Get food poisoning 50 times-Canned Master: Eat 100 cans of food-Gamebreaker: Fix your broken limbs 50 times-Addict: Use morphine 100 times-Clear!: Reanimate a survivor with the Defribilator-Self Defense: Kill another survivor I have many other ideas, but you get the point, and as you can see all of them encourage to exploring, teamworking and fighting zombies, only one on the list includes the death of another player. I think this would help people to be more friendly and co-operative with each other and putting the zombies as something that we need to fight...instead of focusing on other players. If this ever happens I think the achievements should be very hard to get, like the Gamebreaker, Hero or Chernarrussian...they must take time and co-op play

colekern 1364 Posted January 31, 2014 I don't know... on one hand, it could facilitate gameplay, but on the other, I'd hate to see every survivor achievement hunting.

Rocket has already said that he will never have achievements in the game.I would like it, if you can find the source of this mate, because ive not heard it my self yet :) I don't know... on one hand, it could facilitate gameplay, but on the other, I'd hate to see every survivor achievement hunting. While i agree comlpetely with the "achievement hunting", giving us A LOT of different ones will also encourage people to try out other play styles and do things differently, instead of doing the same over and over :)I cant see it as a bad idea, especially if theres many different ones, leading the player in many different directions, gameplay wise :) NO! Its not what its about!I also agree, this is not what its about, but this is a "tool" to try and make people play the game in different ways. Some people might stick to killing people, because they never knew how fun other stuff could be, and vice versa :)Theres alot of games on Steam, which isnt about acheivements at all, but they still have them. AsHawkins 96 Posted January 31, 2014 (edited) Adding things like this create a diverse gaming experience for everyone, Even when you aren't trying to get achievements. I understand that Rocket wants this game developed as bare as possible. Survival Survival. But it is in Alpha, and if we are going to suggest ideas for DayZ. Now is the time. And if DayZ Nazi's want to be ill constructive, say no, and keep a closed mind about how much potential DayZ has? Too bad. There are creative people out there trying to propose the game of tomorrow. And DayZ deserves it. But I digress - The achievements you have thought of are awesome, I love it. Edited January 31, 2014 by AsHawkins
cj14 189 Posted January 31, 2014 NO! Its not what its about!nobody has said is about achievements :S and in case people go hunting for the achievements that why they must be all friendly focused...no achievements like "kill 100 survivors" and stuff...they all must encourage to a more co-op gameplay, that's what achievements are for, plus it would be nice to have a record of what you've been doing in Chernarus
RazRaz 34 Posted January 31, 2014 No. Achievements add nothing to the game experience. IMHO they are for kids/attention whores to brag about on the internetz. -Chernarrussian: Kill 100.000 zombies - "Press W, go afk"-Zombie-free man: Kill 1000 zombies with the crowbar - "Just kill zombies for the sake of it"-Traveler: Run 5.000 Kms - "Press W, go afk"-Survivalist: Survive 1 week - "Hide in the woods, go afk"-Server Loyalist: Register a total of 24 hours on the same server - "Hide in the woods, go afk"-Iron Chef: Cook 100 food items - "Cook shit, throw shit away"-Shh!: 2000 zombies killed with melee weapons - "Just kill zombies for the sake of it"-Sniper: 2000 zombies killed with scoped weapons - "Just kill zombies for the sake of it"-Steve: Craft 200 items - "Craft shit, throw shit away"-Looter: Loot the corpses of 50 fallen survivors - "KOS, loot"-Doc: Heal 50 players - "Meet friend, shoot friend, "heal" friend, repeat"-Hunter: Kill and gut 100 animals - "Just KOS every animal and search the next"-Hero: Heal 500 players and kill 100 bandits - "Meet friend, shoot friend, "heal" friend, repeat" - "What's a bandit???"-Professional Driver: Drive 10.000 Kms - "Drive mindlessly around"-Tester: Eat all the food items - "Don't play the game, just search what you need for this achievement"-Pills Here!: Consume 100 painkillers - "why?"-Max Pain: Consume 500 painkillers - "why?"-Tourist: Complete the Chernarus full map - "Run around... why??"-Firefighter: 1000 zombies killed with the Fire Extinguisher - "Just kill zombies for the sake of it"-Let me Axe you a Question: 1000 zombies killed with the Fire Axe - "Just kill zombies for the sake of it"-Eating Disorder: Get food poisoning 50 times - "Just eat every rotten fruit as a fresh spawn, die, repeat"-Canned Master: Eat 100 cans of food - "wohoo, what achievement"-Gamebreaker: Fix your broken limbs 50 times - "Jump of cliff, fix legs, repeat"-Addict: Use morphine 100 times - "Just pump every morphine into you, because reasons"-Clear!: Reanimate a survivor with the Defribilator - "Shoot at friend, reanimate"-Self Defense: Kill another survivor - "KOS, yay \o/" That' what achievements are... unicornsmustdie 32 Posted January 31, 2014 oh no, no, no, no..... this is bad. You want an achievement? log in and see where you left off and not in jeans and tee on the beach. In a survival game, surviving is the achievement. I do think that the longer you survive, the more hardened you should become. Not taking more bullets or anything like that, but living outdoors, running large distances just makes you tougher. More stamina, better resistance (if well fed over longer periods of time). Reward the player by following the S.U.R.V.I.V.A.L. rules.

Bad close minded vibes man.. Achievements add a bit of spice to a players gaming experience, It can add feelings of accomplishment through the Journey in Chernarus. Sure they are pointless in some aspects, but it's good have a wider horizon of player satisfaction-and personally, I like Achievements.
janol 65 Posted February 1, 2014 (edited) -Chernarrussian: Kill 100.000 zombies Well you're in for some grinding... But, no. And maybe its just me, but I've never understood these bloody "achievements" anyway. If I am playing a game, why on earth would I enjoy getting these stupid stamps for whatever, especially when everyone else playing with even half a heart will eventually get the same? Nah, no sticker collecting, please. Edited February 1, 2014 by janol

skyline-gtr 130 Posted February 1, 2014 While this may suit some games, I feel that in this game it would detract from the very essence of it.
RedDogMT 41 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) What. Achievements totally make sense. Every time I finish a project at work, I always hear music playing and a small popup box appears above my head...It would be JUST like real life! /sarcasm Sorry, but achievements are stupid for a game like DayZ. I am glad that rocket is not on board. Edited February 3, 2014 by RedDogMT
cj14 189 Posted February 3, 2014 While this may suit some games, I feel that in this game it would detract from the very essence of it.no, it would send the game on the right track...survival, make survivalist achievemnts, LIKE the ones I posted. So people get something to do, they'd have a porpuse other than KoS.
skyline-gtr 130 Posted February 3, 2014 Nah, it just means people would be whoring achievments instead of playing the game.
cejota14 130 Posted February 8, 2014 Wow, this is a great idea :D Achievements would send DayZ to the right track giving us a reason to be cooperative and actually trying to survive, right now none of us care if we die and most of the time we commit suicide when injured or when we have a bad spawn, those achievements are great, specially the ones that involve zombies killing...most people forget that this game has actual zombies in it, so that SHOULD be our threat and we should kill them. I searched and never found nothing saying that Dean won't be adding this, so I think there's a pretty good chance for them to be in-game. PS: don't mind the people saying no, I don't think they understand what the game is all about and how achievements would IMPROVE our game expierence as an extra, because they have never been an objective or task for anything...
