    Why Are Servers 70+USD?

Oh and btw $10 gets you an 8-slot Arma3 server likely, the 64 slot servers sell at $100+ per month..

    Why Are Servers 70+USD?

Maybe, and maybe DayZ servers are subsidizing Arma 3 servers, who is to say? Only clear thing is that there's 1 million hungry gamers looking for servers. I am no insider, but I can imagine that server pricing is partially led by supply and demand.

    Why Are Servers 70+USD?

some math: $900 to rent a rack in a data center, incl hi-density power (hi-density servers, virtualized) Each server costs say $750, but let's assume $500 Each server can run about 4 virtual machines running Dayz (the actual game servers). Rack holds 42 servers, but discount some for routing equipment, so effectively on average 30 (averaging out on a 3 rack deployment) IP Transit (the traffic that will be generated) will cost around $0.5/Mbps at a 1Gbps commit let's fix it at $500 for all 90 servers combined. Cost: CAPEX $500 x 30 x 3 = $45000 for the 90 physical servers (I'm assuming freeware OS and software) OPEX $900 x 3 =$2700 rackspace rent 3 cabinets, per month OPEX $500 Internet connectivity, per month Total OPEX $3200 per month Revenue: $60 x 30 servers x 3 cabinets x 4 virtual Dayz servers per physical server = $21600 per month. NB this assumes you sell all 360 DayZ servers from day 1. Not included: General Admin and overhead, office rent, staff, support, marketing costs etc. So considerable investments need to be made. Look for example at a company like gameservers where I host my server. All those locations you can choose for your server represent data centers where they have setups like above (I'm imagining). They need thousands of paying customers every month to turn a profit. The server hardware is most likely obsolete in 2 years (can you play the finished DayZ in two years on the pc you now have?), rather than more typical 3 years, so recovering those costs needs to be done as well. My point being, 12 year old boys not being able to afford a server has nothing to do with setting of the price. It's a business and to survive they need these prices.

    Military Relief Drops

What UN berets? Russian paratroopers use the same color blue. With the abundance of Russian references and milspec stuff I'd say that makes a lot more sense.
  6. Question: Devteam announced for the upcoming patch which I think is already on experimental and goes stable 5-7 Feb: DayZ Changelog 0.33.114855 (pending) Gear: Book, radio, pot, pan, gas canisters, matchbox, paper, firewood and stone can be placed in hands source: http://pastebin.com/ctBrHdDT Now the radio is something that should be able to receive these messages too? Especially if there´s some civil defense message being played? Has anyone on the experimental branch took one of these (assuming they´re referring to the actual radios you see in houses, not the walkie talkies ie two-way radio!) and listened to it?

  8. 039-108 isn´t exactly a deer stand in the tree line, but in the field some 20 mtrs across from it. I thought I´d mention it because the others seem pretty much spot on. Also, a green metal deer stand is a lookout tower. I´m using dayzdb.com´s map to verify. Also, once you plot all coordinates on a map (I use izurvive.com/chernarusplus) you see no apparent correlation between the dots (yet). I´m not into fibonacci diagrams or anything, but if someone with bigger math skills could opine, that´d great. One thing is for sure, they´re all on the EASTERN side of Chernarus. Which makes me wonder if there is a similar broadcast on the WESTERN side of the map too, with different coordinates? It may help understand the seemingly random location of the coordinates.

    Zombie sound when log in.

I think the bunnies for now have placeholder zombie sounds. I´m guessing it will be taken out when they introduce deer. It still scares me, pull out my gun and do a full circle, in an empty forest up north (where they don´t even spawn in the villages or farms yet) :)

    Best feeling in-game?

Feeling safe. I play strictly PvE and avoid cities unless I have to, same for airfields. I ran into one other player twice that was friendly, and one of those times we pulled up together for a while, I was in a week and hadn´t been to an airfield before. Without hesitation, he took me. The feeling of safety one other person gives in this game is amazing. Precisely because 98% in any given time on most servers is out to kill you for now. Another thing, you may laugh at this, but I learned how to use a compass. I have a map, but running through trees always throws you off track, and I now know a fair bit of the map, also visiually which also feels great. I´m starting to understand the environment, which adds to my feeling of safety :)

    Torches

I agree with fing24. If you have ever used a maglite, there´s a ring on it that allows you to go from really focused beam to very broad. It´s not uncommon. I think the focused beam as it is now is also not very realistic indoors, often in small rooms you still only see the circle of light, when in reality a lot more light is reflected around it (unless you´re using a very high end very focused maglite for example).

    Bows, we need BOWS

I´m all for a longbow to be added. The crossbow is more of the same hi-value loot that doesn´t fit with the storyline imo. Make it craftable even better, just like arrows. Hint: axe to cut tree, rope, wood, knife to make both bow and arrows.

    Nagant M1895 - Poll

I want a SW .38 special one-slot revolver added for personal defense. You can keep the rest until hunting comes in.

    Military Relief Drops

not a fan but mostly because i don´t think it makes sense, unless they bring a real backstory to the game because it implies the world has not ended and help is beyond the northern woods. having said that, a great dynamic would be imo to have a C130 fly over the map at an unnanounced moment (at the most once per server restart, but in future without the restarts at the most once a day) visible from the ground from afar and very audible. It would drop some cannisters with parachute, again visible from afar. This will draw players in (think hunger games) but also nearby zombies (wide circle). Let the plane climb out of visual range quickly after, so that when you see the plane, you know the drop is still coming (and not have you ignore it). That I could see work, but again, not a fan of the framing of these kind of outside interfering actions.
