I Can't Change/View My Character/Name?

For a while now, loading into the game has provided me with a flowing white-gray background instead of my character standing somewhere in Chernarus. While this isn't much of an impact to my enjoyment-I don't spend a lot of time on the main menu-it's impossible for me to see me character. I can also see my name in the corner, but I have no idea how to change it.

 

Along with not being able to see my character, "Change character" has all of its options grayed out and I can't actually change anything/ Help?

The one piece of advise i can give is change your VOV or what ever its called in settings. that is how you change your field of view if you change it so your father away it will throw you into third person when ever you are playing. the one downfall is you cant change to first person. hope this helps and DO NOT USE ANY GUIDES ON THE INTERNET THEY ARE ALL WRONG YOU NEED TO SCREW AROUND WITH IT YOUR SELF (ps it makes it so the iron sights and scopes on all guns(beside the Dmr) are off so you will need to get use to it.

What the fuck does that cheating have to do with ANYTHING?

Would think you would know this by now, but you need to click on your name in the corner to get it to change.  No idea about your char not showing up though.

I tried highlighting and typing at first. I've tried clicking on it. Neither works.

Considering how high your postcount is and how long you have been around, I take it you have tried editing your config-files to change your name as well?

 

If you have, did you make sure everything's still fine and did you take backups?

 

If not, it's the same as in ARMA 2 and ARMA 3.

 

I suspect it has to do with the configfiles, considering you can't change your character at all.

I would suggest verifying your game cache, and if that doesn't work just a clean install.

Considering how high your postcount is and how long you have been around, I take it you have tried editing your config-files to change your name as well?

 

If you have, did you make sure everything's still fine and did you take backups?

 

If not, it's the same as in ARMA 2 and ARMA 3.

The only changes I've made to my config files has been the normal GPU max frames ahead/detected frames ahead changes to improve FPS.

There's no profile changing in the main menu, which is where I've gotten use to doing it in Arma, and all PC games.

 

It started after adding -world=empty to my launch parameters, but I've since removed it.

I would suggest verifying your game cache, and if that doesn't work just a clean install. 

 

I've tried that. I've used Steam for a long time. That is literally the first thing I check.

Someone seems to have deleted my evolutionary ecology posts in another thread about psychology of a bandit. These were entirely relevant. Altruism vs selfishness is the core theme of Dayz.. It's a matter of serious debate why a species like Homo sapiens sapiens is altruistic at al. 

My examples were from Google Scholar

Most people seem to see KOS as a psychological issue. I am the opinion it's a level higher on the evolutionary ecology level mixed with simple boredom, which is a psychological issue. Whoever deleted my post has in fact deleted a highly relevant post. 

 

My other posts are granted a bit random, as when I write serious stuff very few follow anyway. Quod erat demonstrandum as above.  :)

I am currently not at my computer, and I can't for the life of me remember where it was exactly with the configs. But I still have the feeling that it might be worth looking into.

You probably have a grey screen because you added the startup parameteres to DayZ from Steam, right? I think I had that problem too. Remove the worldempty one or something. The name should have been changeable though, tried clicking onto it? Another way is to go into the .cfg files and fine the name line and change it from there.
