no more alphas for me

Recommended Posts

I know what happened to warz from the beggining, I still remenber how we laughed talking about furure cars and and new maps tan never came

I know Rocket isnt Sergey(true, I really need to clean my fingers after writting his name)

What i´m talking about is that Devs must focus in important things and painting a Mosin or new zombie skins aren´t.

Like others have said, there are different teams assigned to different things. It's not like the "Devs" focus on weapons, then put out weapons in a patch, then focus on items, etc.

To my understanding, it's more like this;

Let's say they have 20 people, 5 for clothing, 5 for weapons, 5 for items, 5 for zombies. When the clothing/weapon/item team is done with their current focus, they release their finished work onto the next build for testing, etc. And while this is happening, the Zombie team is probably still having trouble getting zombies just right, or improving on them,

Just because they aren't putting out zombie updates doesn't mean they aren't working hard on them, I'm sure they are. But stopping everything else FOR zombies would be silly, why would someone who has no experience on coding A.I help the zombie A.I team?

I can see where your frustration is coming from, just be patient! There is still so much more to be accomplished and we need as many testers as we can, which a lot of people don't seem to realize. (DayZ being an alpha and all)

I don't understand people sometimes. I was one of the people who bought minecraft in Alpha, and it's community had the SAME problem. People expect "Oh, well I just gave you my money, make the game already"... It doesn't work like that. Look at minecraft. It's amazing now. The possibilties are endless. What did alpha have? Barebones gameplay. And what did the community do? bitch and bitch. "Add more weapons, add guns, add more enemies, add nether already faggots, add this add that why wont you"

It took 3 years to get minecraft where it is and hell like 2 years to even get to "adventure" update.

Just calm your fucking tits, and if you can't watch a game progress like we all have with MC, then go play something else for 2 years.

Seriously. DOES ANYONE REMEMBER ENEMY AI IN MINECRAFT ALPHA. DO YOU. IT WAS BAD. now its good. dayz will be the same. SO SHUT UP

To be fair, Minecraft's alpha and beta stages were when 4chan was at the height of its popularity while also still thinking it was a super secret Internet club, especially /v/. This led to an endless stream of entitled man-children to flood every forum nook and cranny with complaints that just kept piggy-backing off each other.

With DayZ I just get the feeling we're dealing with a younger generation who;

A. Doesn't understand jack about how games are developed, and

B. Doesn't care about the vision of the devev team but wants the most streamlined design that is custom tailored to their wants and desires..

Its not really complaining just showing concern that none of us that are true zombie fans want to see endless updates on gear while zombie AI and pathing takes an entire year or 2 to develop. As long as progress is being showed monthly on what there doing that will alleviate allot of ppls fears where the game is headed.

And so bloody what if the AI takes a year or two to get right? I'm ok with that, provided that it is working properly when the game goes RTM. I fully expect for them to be tweaking the AI and pathing right up until the end of Beta and probably into the first few retail patches. In the meantime, play the goddamn game and try to help the devs by clearly and concisely repporting bugs you run into with the zombies (aka Alpha testing. Which is, after all, why you bought the Alpha, right?). This is the only constructive way to accomplish what you would so very much like to see. OP crying about how he is taking his marbles and tapping out of alpha testing is useless, not to mention nobody here gives a shit.

Also, I find it quite funny how people who obviously have no background in CompSci or AI development, want to get on their soapbox about the timeframe in which the AI should be complete and polished. I would urge those individuals to try and code a simple AI and see how long it takes you to get it right. Then, in your mind, scale that effort up in complexity for a massive game like DayZ. Then, kindly stfu.

As long as progression is made than i see no issue. The moment progress slows down on all fronts with very little done than i would start to be concerned. Especially if the updates are very minor at the least.

Despite warnings the game was hyped up for quite awhile so allot of ppl bought on impulse regardless so you really get all types when you open up an alpha live for good or bad. And allot of ppl will never kindly "stfu" as you put it. You would have to put a bullet in every one of there heads. But i would assume your a little more sane than that i would hope.

^This x 1,000.

It seems to me that a lot of the people posting in the same vein as the OP either don't know very much about game development (i.e. complaining about the "lack of progress" that has been made by a tiny dev team in one month, or posting things like "stop working on new items and fix zombie AI" as if the same guy is working on both...) or seems to think that because they paid for access to the alpha build they somehow have a stake in BiS and the game should now be custom made to their preferrences.

You shouldnt be surprised by this in the very least you did after all open the alpha publicly on steam. How you didnt see it coming is beyond me. Since a majority of players are casual and dont give a crap if its alpha or not lol.

I guess I thought the abundance of "DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, IT'S ALPHER!" warnings that you get between looking at the game on Steam, buying it and then eventually reaching the main menu may have had some effect.

Well personally i enjoy the game its got allot of potential so i offer ideas that could help the game most of the time and might not break it. I dont think iv made any complaint threads yet lol. AKA "OMFG I GOT KILLED BY BANDITS THEY IS THE BAD" or whatever lol.

Also you have to understand i think a majority of the player base is somewhere between the age of 12 and 18 so that might explain allot of those kinds of post. Even though the game IS geared towards a more mature audience younger kids will always find away around the age restriction rules.

People are entitled to complain, there are a lot of bugs and other issues with the game right now and feedback is what lets the devs know that changes need to be made. It's complaints about things like lack of content one month into alpha that just leave me shaking my head though.

well, this is my last alpha. I´ve been at warz before this and sadly at this moment it´s happening the same. they promise AI zombies is the first but patch after patch zombies are the great forgotten.

The big problem with this prepaid prealphas is all players asking for things that they want to see ingame. Hardcore gamers want more pvp features and oldschool gamers more PVE improvements. Dev try to give a bit to all players and finally the game goes to no place. we never have a finish and polish game.

I expected that DAYZ wasn´t going to be like this but it takes the same road. in one month the core of the game is still the same; we have more shoes, more trousers, we can paint our mosin?!? more drinks with funny games but mothing important like a new AI zombie, a better melle combat system...

well, this is last prealpha for me :)

Bye! To bad a very important person on the forums has to leave and even has to make his own Goodbye thread...

After last patch zombies have no problem following you trought stairs. (this actually made me crap my pants when i first saw 3 zeds walking stairs up....

It seems there are more of them now. I don't know how on earth some towns seems to have a horde of them at one spot...

Zombies are getting better. Can devs fix the game besides the major patches, because I feel the assigned keys are more responsive than before...Maybe it's just me. I hope they hurry up tho. Even when they mess up it can be fun for us to test....

This is an alpha, an early alpha and has to be polish a lot. This is obvious.

What I mean is Devs have to fix real probkems of this game before datails like new skins or loot. Im not a hater. I really love the concept of day Z. In a post started by Devs they say that zombies is the first thing that they have to fix but at this moment after more than a month the game is being played they havent touched.

So you would just wait for those new loot for couple more months even though they could release those right away? I don't understand that logic. Zombie optimization doesn't come any faster no matter how many items and stuff they release before that.

The real problems are just things that you don't fix in days or weeks. The guy who's working on new items and some extra detail doesn't do multi threaded server optimization. Little things come faster than big things.

I hardly think of zombies as being the most important thing.

The survival elements of the game are far more important to me, and this most recent patch had a slight foray into this with the "berry-picking". That said, the things released in a particular patch are likely released because they're finished/ready-for-testing at the time. They're not set on some unseen schedule that states "Oh we'll work on items now and zombies then.". As previously stated, people are working on zombies as we speak (or not, given the time).

I actually encourage your not buying into alphas in the future however. They all require a heap of patience, and possibly some idea about how games "work". Making a model is somewhat less time consuming than coding, testing, recoding, testing again, recoding again, and finally being satisfied with AI.

...lolol "i dont want new shoes but Performance fixed"

Overall Performance tweaks are done when the game is "Content complete" ( useall shortly before a larger beta test )

I see the guys point , it seems everything added so far is kind of bandit stuff like handcuffs, too much military weapons.
I know i know, once more melee/ Bow and arrow we will reduce military gear..

However i think difficulty is far far too low, this encourages PVP too much because survival is a 'walk in the park'

Food , drink need to be much rarer, as do guns and ammo. It should be a struggle to survive. Zombies should kill in 2 or 3 strikes max.

The zombies are also need so much damn work. They stand stationary until you go near them, even the old mod zombies could wander around roaming. I think the melee is slightly improved from mod, and the way they jog and not sprint is better. But they need to be harder, and more of them. You shouldnt be able to run circles around them because their turning circle is too slow.

I agree with OP to be honest, forget adding shotguns and more weapons and bandit stuff, Make the game harder, and add more zombies. Creating a challenging survival 'base' game rather than cranking up damage and stuff later. Its just too easy, its more like Wasteland at the minute.

The harder the better

That and zombies not being able to run up certain building steps can be to easily exploited to lol. I think once server hoping gets fixed though and zombies can climb ppl will be in trouble lol. It really will be a think before you shoot and agro them thing.

In fact im getting into the habit of scoping out areas with my long ranged scope on my mosin before charging in guns blazing and going into towns prone sometimes to avoiding zombie conflict. Note that if you DO go prone you can sneak around them. Just crouching wont do it they can still spot and agro onto you.
