I just killed my first innocent survivor... And I feel terrible.

Recommended Posts

So I was raiding the NEW airstrip with my mates and we spotted a survivor in full camouflage with weapons and all. She ran up across the field, I wasnt sure wether or not she knew we were there but my friend has sights on her and shot a warning shot that hit her accidentaly. I turned arround and saw her on the corner, arms down not carrying a weapon. I completely panicked and filled her face up with bullets in a heartbeat. I instantly regretted it. I was going to ask her if she was friendly too. I'm the typical friendly guy and I always ask if people are friendly but this time... I just panicked. And I feel terrible about it. Man, i feel serious real life guilt from that.

I'm sorry, random person on NW airfield. You were probably friendly but I was too scared.

T_T Please forgive me...

I wish I could meet legitimate friendly players. Where are you when I play, seriously? All I ever get is people trying to instantly kill me, or people who think they are comedians and obnoxiously jump around me in their underwear telling me to kill them (Which one time i did. It was a stupid trap. And I mean STUUUPID. It went "Hey, hey, hey, kill me! Hey, kill me! Do it! Kill me!" *Kills* "HE'S A BANDIT! HE'S A BANDIT! SHOOT HIM NOW!!" And three guys came out of nowhere shooting at me. Yep, I'm clearly a bandit even though the guy begged me to kill him. Real "clever".)

I also get people shouting incoherently at me and when I stand there doing NOTHING, they kill me. Seriously, some people are serious morons playing this game.

I had a bambi that was wounded following me one time groaning from his wounds.  I offered to help fix it because he wouldn't leave me alone...used disinfectant on him and told him to reconnect to speed it up.  At least the groaning stopped >:(

Am I a bad person too?

Yeah, man. The mentality of some players is basically shooting on sight for a brief amount of amusement. Complete disregard for other players and how it can ruin the experience for them. I find it so much more rewarding to help people out and they are always so grateful! Hey, I'm looking for some people to play with. Do you want to group up? I've got mic and skype. If you feel like it, add my steam from This link.

I think it's funny how this game can make you feel :)

My first, and so far only murder in the game made me feel bad for a long time. Then after a while I started justifying my actions to myself: "He wasn't responding to communication", "he was going in that building that could've had a weapon in it", etc. But in the end, it doesn't matter... I put an axe in his back while he was eating beans, at least he died fully fed.

Eh, we all have our guilt moments (except the 12 yr olds who go around killing for no reason). Though I do occasionally find the bambi who wants help, so I help them out... but in the end they try attacking me once I find them a melee weapon (never ends well for them). There's really only two things you can do... Kill on sight in self-defense to ensure they won't harm you, or have faith in humanity and try to group up. For the most part if a player is unarmed or only has a melee weapon I try to be friendly but if someone has a weapon I'm personally not as faithful; The second they point the gun in my direction is when problems start. Funny how a game can effect your feels irl huh? lol

I enjoy playing by myself most of the time. I am very passive aggressive. If I come across people, I usually avoid them. I have all my own stuff to survive, I don't need help.  I don't want to be that guy that kills the weak.....

Yes.

That poor creature was wounded and you should have done the right thing and put him down, He wont survive the next person he meets.

You get over it after a few kills.

IMO airfields are always kill zones. Nobody is going there to make friends. I've shot people there and been shot. It's just how it works.

I have 2 unprovoked kills, one was at balota tents, I was pissed off( BS death bout 1hr before) and had just found a pistol, I walk out the tent and shoot 15 rounds into to fresh spawn who was walking into a tent, coulda been hostile, I will never know

Other time at NEAF, we think we have seen another player, we head to the last prison building to see what loot we find, I walk into the top room and see another player laying on the ground I panic and shoot them at point blank with a mosin, I then shoot them again and immediately feel horrible

I have about 140 hours in game and these are the only 2 times I have killed other player who haven't shot/attacked me first

Edit: i have killed others in firefights who havent shot directly at me, but have killed freshspawns or my friends this is probably another 4

i also killed someone to prove a point, about surrendering when asked:

I said' i wont shoot im friendly, put your hands up'. He declined (he had an axe on his back) and ran up the road snaking and strafing his way away from me so i shot him at about 80m with my mosin+ PU 1 shot, 1 kill

Meh, I'm normally pretty friendly in-game but if I run into someone at the NW airfield then they're going down. Even if they're only carrying a melee weapon when you see them the chances of them finding a weapon and deciding that they feel like killing you are just too high.

I was looting a military base, not an airfield... carrying just a fire axe and my Improvised Backpack... I get out, see a guy in full camo with M4. He tells me to get down.. I do. He asks my name... I answer... He pulls out his FNX and says "Good night" and empties a clip in my head... Where's the fun?

/Edit... so I have no unprovoked kills... but plenty unprovoked deaths... I just don't see what the fun is... Killing some poor unarmed soul, just boring... I've let plenty of people go.

Our willingness to help only extends sofar as the caution for our own safety goes. By extent of this, if something is a potential threat to us, we'll soon take the better safe than sorry route. If the potential threat is very small, we might still consider. Its thus not the real threat we wager but the potential threat. You could feel perfectly safe helping a bandit out to kill you but who has at the moment no weapons, and you'd shoot a person who'd be more than willing to help on sight, without ever letting them speak, because they're packing a gun.

Ah, how I love the human psyche in action!

Yeah I had a pretty similar moment as well.

I was in Elektro, looking for people to kill as I was bored, and I noticed a guy go inside of the north fire station. I decided to run down to kill him, but at first I decided to mess around with him. I told him to get on the ground, but he didn't know how to do it. So I told him how to, and he went to the ground. Then I told him to get up, and once again, how to get up. And he got up. Then I told him he could go on his way, but I circled around the fire station and went through the back door.. And killed him. I feel EXTREMELY bad about doing that, as I may have created a bandit because of those actions. I promised myself I would never KOS unless they were close to me and had a gun.

I just wanted to find him and give him a bunch of my gear, but I never saw him again.

How do you fire a warning shot INTO someone?

Sorry... not buying that line LOL.

Warning shot is well over someone's head.  Not INTO their head.

Lol dude that's sociopathic ! Haha but I always try to talk to the person first , who cares if I have to make another hour run through chernarus to gear up again , if someone pulls a gun it's MUCH more fun to see how it plays out, whether it be in your own death ( if you're quick it won't be ) their death ( don't be a baddie please ) or hopefully it turns from a standoff into a big problem avoided , which is what I love to see happn . So just saying guys go out on a limb the greatest part is it just a video game you

Don't die in real life when you die in game so take a chance and trust someone at least long enough to have a fun and interesting situation unfold, this way all the gunfights ensue not because some body wants to just kill someone like we do in EVERY video game, but maybe because of a much more real issue like having to fight over the last bit of food in a town , or having to beat and subdue someone for flying off the handle. We all just have to say " would I in real life try to risk myself for an amusing kill " 4 out of 5 times you should say no , but if you truly need to kill unprovoked try not to do it too much cuz it does unbalance the game (not to mention we know devs will never make a feature that impedes on our freedom to play the game the way we want even if its as pointless as kos ) , there's lots of baddies killing for no reason in real life but not nearly as much in this game .

I shot an angry newspawn with a wrench after he assaulted me on the coast. I warned him over the mic but he didn't listen so I just started shooting at him. He ran off like a coward. So I chased him down and held him at gun point. I ordered him to drop his weapon and put his hands up. He sat there looking at me for a minute and I thought he was waiting to jump me, or about to ghost me. So I pulled the trigger and watched his lifeless body drop to the ground

I dont have any problems gunning down others who are doing harm or looking for trouble. But man, my group just had a hell of a fire fight and one of my friends died, we were on our way out of electro. We ran into a bambi who obviously didnt know he was running to the wrong town.

I shot him instantly.

When I went to hide his body as we were quickly leaving I saw he had a couple books and some items that didnt have much use in the game yet. A true innocent new player.

The books man, thats what gave the guilt room to fester.

Those books....

I have taken to the habit of collecting all the rotten fruit I can find, intended for that next KoS moment when I can tell my killer "Enjoy the fruit snapperhead".
