  1. From what I've read you were bleeding from a zombie attack and were following some guys and shot in the air to get their attention. You succeeded but were trying to catch up to them You bleed out once you caught up. If this is correct then you made three mistakes. 1.) Took a shot and attracted more zombies and/or scared the 3 guys into running. (They knew you had a gun thus would be cautious around you) 2.) Didn't carry appropriate medical supplies to deal with your situation. You said you hadn't been able to find any so far but what did you do with your shirt? 3.) Failed to be aware of your surroundings and allowed the zombie to get close enough to make you bleed in the first place. You have a gun, shoot it. You have an melee weapon, hit it. You're out of bullets, run away. I have no sympathy for you but understand the situation. It sucks and agree that some form of preventative actions would be nice but DayZ is not a game that will baby you to health. It's a hard, harsh, and unforgiving world that will get you killed a dozen times over without a break. And it is still an alpha game so changes will come. Till then, brush it off, start again and keep surviving. P.S. Have you ever tried to tear a pair of blue jeans with nothing but your hands? Maybe once you get a knife or axe or bayonet but good luck to you without something sharp.

Hunting backpack > Mountain backpack (1PP)

I had a situation where I was running across the airfield at night and I briefly looked over my shoulder. As I did, I noticed a guy about 50ft behind me just pulling out his M4. Besides the obvious "Oh shit" panic attack I was able to swiftly jink left as he started unloading a full 30 shot clip in my direction then ran for to treeline. He hadn't reloaded by the time I got to the trees and managed to get away without a scratch. Yea Hunting backpacks are just better IMO expecially on 1pp. For those who will claim i had my gamma up high, it was just before dawn so I was able to make him out against the runway.
  3. I had a bambi that was wounded following me one time groaning from his wounds. I offered to help fix it because he wouldn't leave me alone...used disinfectant on him and told him to reconnect to speed it up. At least the groaning stopped >:( Am I a bad person too?

    Newb: couple of questions...

If you're in a town, never disconnect on the ground floor. Zombies don't quite not how to use stairs yet so 2nd floor and up are safe. What aBBullet said about axing zed's. If i'm able to sneek up on a zed it's relatively easy to put an axe in the back of their head but if they've aggro'd i like to back away from them since they only walk towards you at about the same rate. When i'm ready i start a swing and move towards them. This will either hit them and kill them or i'll miss and walk right past them while they swing and miss because I'm now behind them and then turn around and you can start the process again. I've managed to dodge and take out 3 zombies at the same time with a Pipe wrench doing this and it works quite well. Some buildings start with a door open but most are closed. in built up area's there is quite often clothing on the ground floor so if the doors open and there's nothing it's likely that it's looted. And what aBBullet said. Every 3-4 hours things will respawn. Hopefully soon they will implement respawning and persistant world so we wont have to wait. Edit: Spelling/typo
  5. Since the last patch I've been having an odd issue where I've been able to connect to Oceanic servers but anything that is over about 110 ping tends to just fail to connect. There was one or two LAX servers that were around 130 ping that I was able to briefly connect to but my desync was unbearable. My friend in the US has no trouble connecting to any servers NA, EU, or Oceanic. I've tried redownloading the Battleye client and also done a fresh install when that did not work. I'm able to play just fine on anything based in NZ, where I am, or Australia without any problems. I've been looking for 2 days for a fix but does anyone know any other things to try or can point me to another thread with possible troubleshooting?

    Night Time is Unplayable

I totally agree with Felandi that after 30-50 minutes a human will adjust to dark conditions. Personally, I am able to barely navigate my house when its dark but if I wake up late at night I can generally avoid furnature well enough to get by unless I turn on a light source or open the fridge. I wouldn't want to go stumbling through a forest but in open fields and if it isn't overcast or a new moon we should be able to get by. In regards to DayZ I know that about an hour before dawn the light level starts rising so you can see most things ok but no colours. The devs are already using graphics to show our blood and health so why not have it automatically adjust our Gamma/brightness over time when we're away from light sources. I use the following as an example: I have just been scavenging in Cherno with my flashlight so I can see things only in my light cone but hear some shots so it's time to run. I keep my flashlight on till I get to the edge of town and the flashlight goes off and I start leggng to the trees. My light adjustment would start at zero so I can only see the stars/tree line (current night) but as I reach the tree line and look back at town I can just make out the shapes of the buildings and roads.(low adjustment) I had my bearing for where I wanted to go and it's a good 10-15 minute trudge through the forest. I start off occasionally bumping into trees but as time goes by I'm able to make them out better so make better time. Medium adjustment When I reach the tree line for where I was going, lets say an Airfield for ease, I'm at full adjustment (It would be similar to the dawn lighting or having Gamma up) so I can see the silhouette of a few zombies and a person with a weapon flashlight on. I make my way towards the person as quietly as I can but he manages to hear me as I reach a bush and spins around aiming his flashlight in my direction for 10-15 seconds looking for me, but can't see me and continues on. Of course that was like staring into a floodlight for me and I'm momentarily blinded for a minute or two as I blink furiously trying to get the after images out of my eyes (temporarily loss of adjustment). After the person has left, I know this since my adjustment came back as he was leaving, I am able to start scavenging myself. I head into the barracks and pop my flashlight out but since it's not pointing at me it doesn't have the dazzling effect and over the next few minutes my adjustment goes to zero and I have to start the whole process over again. That's my take on what would be a good way of implementing it. It makes getting places and the trackless wilds easier without a reveiling lightsource and also allows for people to be stealthy when they want to avoid attention. I have no idea how difficult it would be to implement but hey, being part of the process is why we all brought the game anyway. right? Edit: Spelling
