Wolfguarde 108 Posted February 23, 2014 It's presently possible to have as many characters as you wish. Simply pay bohemia a further 23.99 euroes for each additional copy of dayz and enjoy your perks... Yeah. Fix this or every argument against multiple characters is moot.I don't see how this is a sensible argument, since it's literally impossible to balance. You can't make it impossible for people to buy multiple accounts, true. But given that the game company makes money off that, about the only time it's going to be policed is when hackers start doing it to get around bans.It does not, in any way, link to preventing multiple characters on one account - the issues might be the same on a basic level, but the essential difference is that they can do something about multi-character accounts, where they can't do anything about multi-account players. For context, it's a bit like comparing someone having a multibox or rival-faction characters over several accounts to exploit macros or an ingame system in an MMO. Just because it can be done does not mean it should be.

skow 1 Posted February 23, 2014 I think there are merits to this. Let's say you have a brother, and you both use one computer... You don't want your brother getting your character killed and you don't want all of the "stupid stuff" he puts on your character. You like the M4, he likes the mosin. He playes with his friends and they are on the coast... You like to hang out at Northwest with your friends... After he's done you have to run back? You can't really use this as a loot hoarding mechanic unless you can get both characters to the same spot and people are always migrating around. Same thing for the pack mule idea... 1. You'd have to run to the city with your first character. 2. Logout and in with your second character(time penalty). 3. After the penalty, run in your second character. 4. Log back to your first character(Larger Penalty) and drop the loot for the mule. Log again (a bigger time penalty)... if the stuff is still there... pick it up and repeat. Nobody is going to do that... and if they do they are going to be sitting through a lot of penalty time from relogging.I think you should be able to have different characters, if a friend comes over... you can use your other character to mess around and show him stuff without killing your main guy.Thoughts?Don't let your brother have your steam info. Your brother should have his own steam account and separate copy of the game.
mithrawndo 166 Posted February 23, 2014 I don't see how this is a sensible argument, since it's literally impossible to balance. The crux of it is as you suspect: It is impossible to balance, so don't try. 24 euroes isn't a lot of money. There are very few people who are willing and able to purchase one copy of this game who would be worried about the expense of a second copy. Therefore, players who wish to have multiple characters and go and play on another one when the heat is too much on their main can easily do so, for a one time fee of 24 euroes. The benefit (or drawback depending on the reasons for wishing to play a secondary character) is that your second copy isn't even linked to your main account, and thus you are anonymous. I see no real problem with this myself. I have no desire for a second character myself. However it's a precedent that says it's acceptable for a bandit who has ruffled too many feathers on his server and finds himself unable to play the way he wants to because he's constantly the chicken rather than the fox can instead of dealing with the issue in game simply jump on to his other character. Conversely, If you're hunting someone and they get wind of you or even just get a little spooked, they can do exactly the same. For money. To follow this to it's inevitable conclusion: If I am able to buy a second copy of the game and reap the benefits of having two character - be that as I outline above, to mule gear for you main or for some reason I am yet to anticipate - why should Bohemia not simply allow players to purchase an additional character slot on their existing account? Sounds pretty crap when it's put like that, don't you think?
