Well, some people are gonna play the way they want to play. This is the beauty of DayZ. I don't begrudge your feelings of frustration, lord knows I've had my fair share of "wtf, why did you just kill me?" moments, but they were all my fault. Not being stealthy enough, not checking corners etc. KoSing can be minimized by a few actions on your own part. Does it slow you down a bit? Yes, of course, but let us not forget the fable of the Tortoise and the Hare.

Anyway, keep having fun and good luck out there!

orly?

you missed the dozens of other threads where this was discussed at lenght? where numerous examples were cited and analyzed, how catastrophic events impact society, how ethics change?

people need to understand that a discussion forum requires READING COMPREHENSION. yes it has some aspects of an image board, but you need to understand that this is a discussion forum, not 4chan or 9gag... lol

"Balota prison blues.."

I hear the train a comin'
It's rolling round the bend
And I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when,
I'm stuck in Balota prison, and time keeps draggin' on
But that train keeps a rollin' on down Electro way..
When I was just a baby my mama told me. Son,
Always be a good boy, don't ever play with guns.
But I shot a man in Cherno just to watch him die
When I hear that whistle blowing, I hang my head and cry..

But you know what?

People are free to play it however they want, thats the beauty of this game and thats why its so damn popular.

No restrictions, nobody telling them how to play, you do what you want, end of story.

Some people play like Rick others play like the Governor or Negan.

Given that DayZ was very strongly inspired by the walking dead TV show and graphic novels it seems about right to me. Humans are the real monsters etc etc, if you want to make the post apocalyptic world a better place it's up to you.

Was it? I thought it was inspired by Deans experiences in the army?

Did Dean encounter zombies in the army? The helicopter crash sites are a dead give away that he watched/read some walking dead and thought to himself "man, a zombie apocalypse survival game would be super cool".

Yeh no, thats not true mate :)

It is inspired by Deans time in the Army indeed.

This game did not start as a Zombie game, it was a survival game in the beginning.

You need to read up on your background material :)

This game has nothing to do with walking dead, we arent even killing zombies here, its infected (28 days later style)

So please stop the arogance :)

EDIT:

Here i even found a link for you, feel free to read it.

PVP is integral to the game for sure but what I dont like about this community so far is that many people do treat the game as a PVP deathmatch game and dont understand why people want to play PVE too. This game is called DayZ, its about the zombie apocalypse, it is advertised as a zombie survival game and right now there really isnt a zombie apocalypse feeling at all.

The core of the game needs to be about zombie fighting, not player fighting. They should focus on the zombies in the upcoming updates as much as possible, build up the core game and the PVP aspect will still thrive. People will still fight for resources, but at least they have more of a reason to team up and work together to survive the zombie apocalypse rather then run by the 1 zombie to kill 10 guys on sight.

Zombies/Infected are exactly the same thing, 28 days later has the exact same 'people are the real monsters' theme anyway. Dean very clearly watched some walking dead and it is a clear influence, Dean didn't encounter any undead/people-infected-with-the-rage-virus  in his army survival training. I know this cause there are no zombies or rage-virus-infected-people in real life.

The timing of when he started working on the DayZ mod isn't a coincidence either, Walking Dead TV show made the zombie genre super popular and dean released the mod a couple of month later. Not to mention that the 'wilderness survival' aspect of DayZ has always been lacking and other survivors + the undead horde were always meant to be the bigger threat.

And another thing, people need to understand that if this game is a zombie apocalypse survival PVE game and not a PVP oriented game it needs to first be the former and not the latter, survival in DayZ has always been very easy, there was never any E to P vs, let there first be some hardcore challenging Zombie Apocalypse you need to survive against before you rage against people who do the only thing that is even remotely interesting in the game.

He had some experiences while they had survival training, you can read that online. I can find no evidence at all that he took inspiration from wlaking dead.

As far as i remember (and its been a while so if im wrong shame on me) there was no helicrash in the walking dead graphic novels and the one in the tv series must have been after they were in the mod...

edit: and amirdayz, im not sure if youre trolling but you know that there were zombies before the walking dead? Hell there were even zombies before romero. The first movie i can think about is from the 40s "walking with a zombie" or something. And i guess there were books before that. So just because the theme is the same there is no evidence that dean took anything from it.

No, you got no fucking clue. Just because Dean said some stuff that makes almost zero sense given the game he (and others, he was never alone in this) produced doesn't mean it is the word of god. Dean said a lot of weird things over the years. The very fact that the article just skims over the addition of zombies to the game demonstrates how this is just a cool story that adds flavor to the tale of DayZ's creation. "Dean had a near death experience, so he wanted to create a survival game... he then added zombies".

Perhaps you need to learn between the lines before you start dispensing clues.

Well you remember wrong.

Rick, Michonne and Glenn spot a helicopter in the sky, the drive after it in their jeep and when they arrive they find no survivors but they find tracks, they follow the tracks and it leads them to Woodbury where they meet the governor who had taken the survivors from the heli-crash captive and killed them.

Ok so basicly you are saying that the story Dean has given, over a year ago, is BS?

Cmon, nobody can be that stupid mate.

And yes, he started this ALONE, the mod was his work, it all started with him writing it and testing it with a couple of friends and one server lol.

Why do you think his name is all over the place? Just for the fun of it?

Its very clear to see you havent been around for a long time mate,

And again, DayZ has nothing to do with Walking Dead...... Dunno where you come up with this stuff.

We are actually trying to tell you "the story of the game" and all you can say is:

Buhu its BS.....

Jeez..... Some people.

Im out, this is a way to advanced form of stupid for me.

The timing, settings and main themes are not coincidental.

Zombies are an ancient concept originating for the voodoo religion, the concept of a zombie apocalypse is mostly attributed to Romero, regardless the fact that zombies have been super popular for the past 4 years is pretty much 100% due to the popularity of the walking dead. I never said it was the only source of inspiration, I said it was clearly a strong influence. Which it very obviously is.

Nobody needs to understand anything other than this is a huge, crazy, sandbox with people and zombies.  Period.

Whatever you want to do in that sandbox is up to you.  Carve whatever existence best fits your needs out of the landscape and enjoy.
