Lady Kyrah 1110 Posted January 11, 2014 So we all know how there is common loot, there is rare loot, and there is very rare loot. But a persevering player knows that eventually he will find the rarest items, simply because, even if spawns are random, there is an inherent "fairness" to randomness.Well this suggestion is about throwing this out the window :)Every respawn, the game would roll a list of items it will try to NEVER spawn while you are nearby, because sometimes, no matter how hard or how long you're looking for something, you simply never gets it.Now it would mean that you could receive those blacklisted items from other players, either by trade or by looting their dead body, but you would never stumble on items in this list. The sole point of this idea is to make the game a little more unique for each player, and to also make each play through a little different. The list would obviously be hidden, you can of course "suspect" that an item is in your blacklist, but you can't really know. Hell you wouldn't even know wether the devs implemented it or not actually :)
gray-z@hotmail.co.uk 84 Posted January 11, 2014 Well, Now don't get me wrong, I'm not against KoS at all and find it makes the game more interesting from a survivors point of view but this will do nothing more than give the dedicated KoS crew further justification to argue that it's the ONLY way to play so they may get all the cool lootz, and continue bashing those who disagree. A nice Idea, but I'm afraid I have to disagree with this for that reason alone. Oh, and just to clarify before I get flamed. I KoS too, but for me it's a situational thing. Are they a threat, do they look like they are hunting etc etc.

Rufert 146 Posted January 11, 2014 Well since items don't spawn when players are near this would never work. Beyond that it's a weird pointless contrived mechanic.
Lady Kyrah 1110 Posted January 11, 2014 (edited) Well since items don't spawn when players are near this would never work. Beyond that it's a weird pointless contrived mechanic. It's ment to mess up the random (and perfectly even) distribution of items by adding a unique skew per player. As i said at the end of my post it's the kind of inner workings you can add to the game server and not necessary make obvious to the players. Lady Kyrah 1110 Posted January 11, 2014 No this is to prevent loot farmingso instead of extreme loot cycling, we have extreme server restarts, great
DropBearChick 1216 Posted January 11, 2014 (edited) So what there 4 hours that's quite fleshed out once we see anti combat logging and server hopping as well as private hives loot will be rarer and 4 hours is over the recommended playing time for 1 day so not extreme, Edited January 11, 2014 by spartan54820
ImageCtrl 719 Posted January 11, 2014 (edited) Server not restart when the game is finished.Maybe the ultra rar items have spawn rules like...-character has survived X days ingame-character traveld X miles-character was X days not server hopping Edited January 11, 2014 by NoCheats
Firewarrior64 69 Posted January 11, 2014 I don't like this idea. Firstly, I think this wouldn't make the player's experience unique, but frustrating. If you run around at all the military camps, putting yourself in danger, and you find out that the M4 you want sooo much is blacklisted for you, I guess you wouldn't be happy. Secondly, this gives players less incentive to continue playing and searching dangerous places to get their dream items if they are probably blacklisted- the whole point of super-rare items (in my opinion) is to give players something to work for, something that will make all the looting worth it (mountaindew :P). If you know you can't get it, why would you continue looting? And now don't tell me 'it's random, you can't know that the item won't spawn for you' because that's dumb. If you looted twenty barracks without an M4 spawning in them, it would be obvious that it's blacklisted for you. Lastly, it would encourage KOS because certain items will only be obtainable through killing. I certainly don't want KOS removed, but I definitely don't think it needs to be encouraged. Monkfish (DayZ) 339 Posted January 11, 2014 No this is to prevent loot farmingNo, this is because loot spawns aren't in their final state yet. Loot, once fixed, will respawn which would mean server restarts would only be required due to performance issues or upgrades. And once loot respawning is implemented, server hopping will reduce significantly.
