Sick and tired of joining a server and losing my character

Recommended Posts

I understand its an alpha, but I am sick and tired of losing my character when I connect to a server and spawn on the coast. They need to fix this, combat logging and make the zombies stronger and not have them run through everything.

They are bugfixing and your complaining doesn't help the least. They've got a bugtracker you can use to vote up the things you mention here.

Only time I've encountered this is because I've died and logged out instead of respawning.

I understand its an alpha

Why is it whenever anyone says this, they then immediately say something that directly contradicts it?

I've heard it's caused by either unwhitelisted servers or logging in and out of servers too rapidly (basically you try to log in before the old server has updated your info)...give it an extra couple of minutes after leaving a server before you try and join a new one. It's working for me... so far...

As for whitelisting, just use the favourite list to note servers where it doesnt happen.

It doesnt happen to me so far, but maybe thats because I play all the time on the same server and dont switch/hop around.

"I know it's Alpha but...." If you know this, then why come here and complain about it?

As stated, there's a Feedback Tracker which is for constructive feedback as well as a billion other threads on the same subject which you could've read and bitched posted in.

Oh, and welcome to DayZ and the forums.  ;)

I've never lost a character yet and have been on for weeks now. I do stick to the same server as much as possible.

I understand its an alpha, but-

One of these threads. No you don't, don't participate in Alphas in the future and you will have much better experiences.

I'm assuming that you have gathered a lot of documentation on this problem, and now have verifiable proof thet it is indeed a bug in the game and not just, I don't know, maybe a server misconfiguration by some random admin who wouldn't know the difference between a config file or their arse.

You would have also gone to the feedback tracker and searched through the posts there and added this insightful information to the post there so that it can be acted on imediately, or yesterday.

So this post is really only here to let us know about this issue, because, like, server stability isn't listed anywhere as a known issue or anything.

So thank you. We now know.

And great first post, BTW. As first posts go, though, it's almost identical to most other first posts. Next time try to be a bit more creative, or -- now this is an idea way out there -- maybe read a few post first. Or heaven forbid, try using the search function!

Welcome to the forums, have a nice stay!

Stop server hopping so fast. <_<

This, and it isn't even close. I have had a character which has been alive for roughly 40 in game hours (15+ play sessions). This character has played on 30+ servers and has never had a an issue.

Only lost my stuff once. Stopped playing for a while after that. I'm being really careful what servers I choose now and it hasn't happened yet. I'm done for a while if it happens again. It's something worth complaining about imo. Might get them to prioritize this a bit more, because while it may not be a big problem in terms of game development, it is hurting player's experience in a big way. Regardless of whether it's alpha or not, it's in the developer's best interest to keep players from having a bad time with their game, which is in the process of making first impressions on many new players.

If most people's first post on this forum is about this issue, it means it's an issue that needs to be addressed seriously, not scoffed at.

Most character resets happen from switching servers too fast as many have already said, but it's not directly limited to switching servers. I have on multiple occasions red chained on both empty and full servers just to find my character dead for no reason and reset by the server while still in the server. No body or anything. Makes me wonder if perhaps the server simply overwrites your data if it can't properly find any for that player in a timely manner?

Brilliant solution for you. Just don't connect to ANY server. No problem!

Good, problem solved. You can lock this thread now, please, moderator.
