map in 4 pieces is nonsense thing

Recommended Posts

Took me 1 week to find all the pieces. Was it worth it? Of course not. Do i use alt-tab for online map? Of course not. Do i bitch for "M" not working and i have to hotkey the map? Of course not. A full map should be something common close to the beach. No reason to make a hardcore game even more hardcore. I dont know if u noticed but like 400.000 ppl purchased SA, and yes i cant wait for a week for my mates to get familiar with the bloody map, but in the end i basically dgaf about the map. :D

I don't see the purpose of having an ingame map considering the indepth maps you can access online, except for immersion. Makes very little difference when 90% of experienced players are just using dayzdb's map in the background / on a second monitor. Not to mention a lot of the people that played the mod since near the beginninghave the map nearly memorized by now.

I don't really use the map so don't pick them up, but, I can see how it would be annoying to someone needing to use them.

Theres making people make decisions and prioritize storage space.  Then theres having pieces of maps.  Its not like DayZ doesnt have a crap ton of things to make you think about storage.

What is the reason for having half of a map? There's no reason for someone in real life to create a map of exactly half of a continent, so why is it in the game? I could understand the limitations on a map were it ripped, but the one I found is just "Map of N Chernarus" with a distinct cutoff through the middle of Chernarus. The map of only a city makes sense, because many cities have a map of the city all the way to the city limits. All these half/quarter pieces of a map are nonsensical; it should just be one map. However, I would be in favor of again, a single map with everything on it, but it can be found ripped in many places, or you could even just get a chunk of the map. Finding a complete map would be uncommon, but not extremely rare due to maps already being pretty difficult to find.

I agree in a way but i think it is just a way to make getting a complete map a bit more of a challenge.

Different types of maps would be nice.  Tourist, topographic, military etc

Agreed.

I like the idea of having different kinds, or sizes, of maps, but I don't think the current system is ideal.

as posted in yesterdays thread about that topic, i see two possible explanations

one is that regional maps exist, which you must combine to have the whole picture. as someone else pointed out, a printed map at a scale similar to the ingame map would be over 3 meters x 3 meters in size.

second one is, that most maps we find are damaged to an extent, and only the designated part - north in your example - is readable and thus usable.

If you combine the pieces (N and S, (SE + SW) + (NE + NW) you'll get a whole map.  And I think you mean country not continent, Cheanraus isn't GTA where it's its own little island.

EDIT It would be nice if there were 'overlays' that you could combine with the maps (as others are saying, you find a military map, census maps, mineral rights map, a tourist map with landmarks and businesses (restruants, stores, hotels, ect), a bus route map, uncle sergei's handdrawn map to his best deer hunting spots, ect) that reveal more information

yesterdays discussion for further reference. maybe topic merge?

However, I would be in favor of again, a single map with everything on it, but it can be found ripped in many places, or you could even just get a chunk of the map.

I understand that thats exactly how it works at the moment. you find only pieces that are usable, combine them to have one big map again

The split maps is a dumb idea, now we just use dayzdb instead cause its too much of a f*** around.

Using an online map for a game like DayZ is a dumb idea imo.

I would like to see the current maps get removed or made rare military loot. The map depicted in your inventory currently should be something like this, instead of the military type map we have now that can zoom in and see houses and treelines and tons of elevation. Maybe even add maps of the surrounding area, only a small part would be relevant to Chernarus. Or maps of other regions to throw some people off. Some naval charts and maps in the ship/port buildings.

It would be really cool if some cities or regions could get in-game map signs. For example, hanging on the wall of a fire station, or in the city center there could be a big map of that city and its' surrounding area. Something the player could look at and get an idea of the city layout, but it's too big to walk away with. Maybe even add the ability to pin notes to it for others to read.

If there is an exploit (online maps) people will exploit it. No point adding frustration mechanics like these imo.

Maybe they need to add an empty map, and then you can make the map more visible as you travel through the map. It will add an objective (completing the map) plus its like real life (when you've been somewhere you will find your way around). Sorry for my Englisch.

Great idea, this would make explored map more valuable. You should suggest it.

one mans frustration is another mans fun. i am among those who really enjoy the new map mechanic, and look forward for it to be developed further: different maps, different scales, new visuals of partly readable maps with burned/stained areas etc.

I'd love to see the map handled just like the new compass rather than appearing... when you consider how they are handling everything else including the compass having the map randomly appear blocking everything else out of view is somewhat silly.

Otherwise I have no problem with finding either a whole map, half a map or a quarter.

Exactly what i was thinking. Plus it makes people traverse through the map instead of staying on the beach. I know you could easily get acces to the whole map through dayzdb, but from my personal experience i want to have the complete map in my inventory. Think of it as having the best gear in the game.
