Isamu7 78 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) While in game, press shift+tab, click on "web site", add new tab, google "DayzDB map", go on the first web-site that show up.If you need to watch the map again, just press Shift+Tab again. Quicker, more detailled and take no slot in your inventory. Edited January 5, 2014 by Isamu7
Gerandar 212 Posted January 5, 2014 You might as well just use DayZ db over the map for now lolI thought everyone was already doing this

Tizzle 90 Posted January 5, 2014 The only thing i use the in game maps for is measuring the distance between two places, for everything else i just use the DayZ DB map in my steam overlay. I don't have a problem with the current system.
Leto (DayZ) 72 Posted January 5, 2014 It's easier and faster to alt-tab to dayzdb.com than using the current in-game map (even if it's complete).
Frostbyte_ 44 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) Well, in rather common 1:50k map, full map of chernarus would still be about 46cmx46cm.And since the map actualy is more like 1:10k, which would bring that up to 2mx2m, i can very well see why any mapmaker would partition that map. And good luck finding map that isnt fucked up beyond recognition in post-apocalyptic scenario, keeping paper maps intact on the field is a bitch, maybe the SW part was the full map, and you have south west part of it readable. Hosty 647 Posted January 5, 2014 Bah, I sincerely never use DayZ DB when I'm playing alone, I like complicating things like using an ingame map, memory and try to read out the road signs to whatever name it resembles. Just like gamma, I prefer not using it but hey, If all these things are there that give an easy way out, people WILL use them.
boneboys 7988 Posted January 5, 2014 Come back when youv'e done your basic traing and a couple of night time map reading exercises. Half a map, three reference points and a compass, I could get you there in time for breakfast.
Zogvarn 118 Posted January 5, 2014 229 sq km area is not so big in real world :)is very small in world of map maker :Dif you can show me one example of map where they make publish separate area like this divide into 4 for put together like jigsaw I believe  ;)(not book where all part coming in same place or DVD rom where all part coming same place) > :( http://www.usgs.gov/pubprod/maps.html There ya go. Now stfu already you are wrong.

The faster you get a pro, the sooner you'll miss that feeling as you were a rookie in that game. Edited January 5, 2014 by Ken Bean
wild_man 4442 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) http://www.usgs.gov/pubprod/maps.html There ya go. Now stfu already you are wrong. you talking nonsense  this system don't explain why we find all over chernarus different section of same map Edited January 5, 2014 by KoS
MikeReverb 49 Posted January 5, 2014 I definitely hate the map pieces; I was so happy when I finally found a map the other day only to learn it was only of west Chernarus. I was far to the east. I won't get into it being realistic or not; it just isn't fun or practical. It's not like there are maps all over the place. If it's this rare, then it should at least be whole. Just sayin'!
roguetrooper 201 Posted January 5, 2014 Why does one need an ingame map? The paper map sold with Arma X (and separately I think) works perfectly...
axtranti 23 Posted January 5, 2014 google has a full map of stand alone with key spots, such as water fountains, military base, cities, etc... why would it matter if the map is divided in 4 pieces, is just a game! There's no logic in games, they would be boring otherwise.
Element47 2481 Posted January 5, 2014 KoS you know i love you like the brother i never had, but this time you are Don Quixote fighting against wind mills. separate map parts make sense in two ways to me: one is that regional maps do not cover the whole area, thus you need several pieces, second is that due to mayhem and destruction of the apocalypse, only certain parts are readable and thus usable. to compromise for game mechanics, it is handled as currently implemented. i think it increases immersion, and it also resonates with that little collector deep in me i enjoy it much. even though i currently only can navigate the east half of the map. but thats cool - i imagine a goat has eaten the western part.
floj 393 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) Gah I just lost my character to a server update error whilst logged out and looking for a ruler to measure more precisely :( before I logged I peeked at the in-game map and saw that at max zoom it's 3cm:200m (guesstimated on a 1080p 24" screen). which is roughly 1:5000 (6666 if my measurement was right). Chernarus is roughly 15km2so would require a piece of paper about 3x3m, not unfeasible but a pretty damn big map (smaller at 2.25x2.25m on measurement). Ordnance Survey maps of the UK countryside are most commonly available in 1:25000 which would give a map size for Chernarus of 60x60cm which probably sounds about right for a hiker, but would have far less detail available than the current in game map. I'd propose a single, less detailed, 1:15,000 global map (makes it nice and easy maths to give a 1x1m map) available as a single piece with less zoom available. Additionally I'd then add some streetmaps for the major cities as separate loot. These items could be 'merged' but would remain as separate pages that the player could flick between on the map page - by default it would open the countryside map unless you're in a city where it would open the appropriate one (with arrows showing directions and distances to other major cities on the edges) Just flew by the seat of my pants and did the math all in my head, so please double check it for me someone :) Edited January 5, 2014 by phlOgistOn

samzala 74 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) Well, contrary to what seems common agreement in this thread, I like the map fragments. I don't know about you but printed maps with such high detail of contours, water sources, rock formations, individual buildings, train tracks, roads and power lines are never in such large sizes as plain road maps. Also there are maps of cities like Cherno, Elektro, Berezino and such ingame I understand, but I haven't seen any of those myself. green_machine 179 Posted January 5, 2014 There's a little thing I like to call FATE, in dayz. It comes from the acceptance of using MINOR (MAJORs are things like loot cycling, ghosting, server hopping) exploits. Like, Teamspeak, Web Browser Maps etc. The basis is, that whatever you use in-game, from an out-of-game source, effects your fate... corrupting it. You won't get the dayz experience by using out-of-game sources. Why not wonder around the map, aimlessly? Why not get lost? Wonder where the fuck you are once and a while, what's so bad about that? You don't need a map and you don't need to make a thread about not needing several maps.Game design is = Have 4 maps that are kinda easy to find or have 1 map that is 4x as hard to find. Either way, you'll get the map sooner or later.Personally, I don't care. Training myself off the maps.

Training myself off the maps. i walked from mogilevka to staroye yesterday - for two hours. came through mogilevka three times on my way. it was fun and i laughed on ts3 with my buddy who was waiting there - (i know, 3rd party VOIP is cheating..) see, i had no map, no compass, and a clear sky. i had the wrong landmark referenced twice, thus leading me in a large circle, until i finally found my error and managed to find my way to staroye. it was a (mis-)adventure, an anecdote to tell friends at the campfire, how i suffered the curse of mogilevka.. for the remainder of the play session, we joked about how the next settlement looming in the distance is probably mogilevka again, pulling my soul back in.. those are the stories of dayz. fuck dayzdb.

green_machine 179 Posted January 5, 2014 those are the stories of dayz. fuck dayzdb.Oh yes XDBeen there before, going round and round. There are survival stories you hear, about walking in the desert. Your right leg is stronger than your left... so you cannot knowingly walk in a straight line for many miles at a time. I thought about this is dayz but tried to call bullshit.... oh how dumb did i feel when I found the same place 3 times
