Get yo asses on the servers. I can find three servers in Oz with 3rd off (one of them is 24/7 day so it doesn't count as server)..and there isn't enough on all three to fill one. Now, i prefer first by a mile over 3rd, but if y'all ain't gonna get in there.. then whats the damn use of all of these 1st v 3rd topics ?

For those of you that haven't tried it, give it at least a decent crack for a couple of hours and remember ..everyone else on the server is in 1st so the advantages/ disadvantages are the same :) Who knows, you may come to like it.

I find 1st only to be somewhat of a bandwagon for hardcore's to jump on.  Loads rant they want it, none hardly play it after a bit.  I personally like 1st only but I also like to have player interactions so I am stuck with playing normal....Sue me.

1st person is awesome alone, i love the feeling however in a group it gets a little confusing so i prefer 3rd in that situation....

Agreed. Yet I'm afraid that the 1PV-servers might die away.... People won't join on them because they 'd have to restart.

 

 

@hetstaine : Most servers don't put the 1PV only in their names, but my friend says that there are a lot of them (he plays much more than me)

Since 1st person only is being labeled as hardcore, maybe we should reduce the number of servers to just a few per region. That way people can't use the low populated ones to farm gear.(or avoid other players) It would also have the effect of pushing the existing players into populated servers. I would rather see one full server than see 20 servers with 2 or 3 people in each.

 

I only play on 1st person servers now, but that will stop if they go the way of the mod and I can't find one with more than 5 people. I'm like Steak, I value player interaction more than I value the camera angle.

Or a large percentage of the community sees how easily tpv is abused to grant players unfair advantages over others.

I know it's not the same, but it's still a representation of your character. I'm hopeful they'll improve that screen in future updates, maybe they could actually show your character in 3rd person perspective. So if you're bleeding, you can see the blood coming from the wound, or if you're crouched or running or whatever, you can see it there.

For one, until there is some decent immersive sound than you're always at a disadvantage in first. I cant hear anyone sprint up on me, open doors, hit chain link fences. 

For 2, the texture resolution in first person just looks terrible. I like the camera further away so that the textures look much cleaner. 

 

I look forward to the day I can play 1pp immersively and don't have to use 3rd person to substitute for lack of hearing capability and other senses that I would otherwise have. 

 

Everyone thinks 1pp is realistic. It's really not. Human senses not avaiable to players in video games and especially ARMA engine - effective hearing, sense of touch, smell, peripheral vision, spacial awareness. 3rd person somewhat alleviates some issues. For example, in real life, I cant manipulate my body to stealth fully look over fences or turkey peek around corners.

I find in 3rd i bump into heaps more shit and get stuck in bushes and crap, in 1st i seem much more aware. But yes, definitely more awesomerer.

It seems they are filtered ny either 3PP:ON and 3PP:OFF, nearly every server i looked at (AU) had one or the other in the name :)

Will be interested to see what you think, give it a couple of hours at least..and play with your fov as you can get pretty much the same 'peripheral' as 3rd with a slight adjustment.

That would cool for those who like to see their chars. Myself i don't give a toss what my guy looks like in 3rd as i can see it in the inv anyway, but different strokes for different folks. :)

Maybe Steam could sell two different versions of DayZ, ones for the n00bs and obvious cheaters like me and one for the purist hardcore, who prefers to play alone.
