whatup2003 67 Posted January 3, 2014 I don't know how viable it is for DayZ's engine, but it would be cool to have a BF4-like emblem system. It's totally doable in real life so it doesn't break realism(just make it not as complex and not as neat-looking), and it's easier than other type of identification methods (ie: armband) because it doesn't require remodeling the character. What would you need for a sprayed-on emblem: - Spray cans that can be found in the game(in different colors)- A vector based emblem selected/designed for your profile What can you spray your emblem on:- Helmets- T-shirts (front and/or back)- Jackets (back only)- Vests (back only)- Guns (This is not necessary) I know this feature would be far down the road(if the devs decided to go for it), so this is just for future reference only.
derpdiggler 69 Posted January 3, 2014 Why not just use the typical steam sprays rather than trying to code in a vector drawing system?
Rissou 42 Posted January 3, 2014 Sure go ahead, everyone in your team should wear yellow bandanas to identify each other, so I can also see you easier and kill you.
OrLoK 16185 Posted January 3, 2014 Hello there This IS doable.....in a way. Arma does it with the Squad.xml system. Have a google. Not perfect, but a possible fudge solution. Rgds LoK
-DMG-Jonesy 226 Posted January 3, 2014 Even if they add a system for you and your friends to bedazzle your kit, you'll still have IFF issues unless you put it everywhere. Just wear gear that is "uncommon." Actual issues > You looking FABULOUS!
Mutonizer 78 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) Could also add a Velcro patch system to arm and leg. Some vest and leggings would offer velcro slots, then you would be able to find different Velcro patches types. - Country flag patch. This could be set in the character option or taken directly from Steam profile.- Blood type patch. This would be black on black by default. As soon as you use a blood test kit on yourself, it would automatically display your blood type white on black.- Vanity emblem. Just normal drops around the world like Skull & Bones, Eagle, Red cross, etc.- Squad patch. squad.xml system or black on black by default. whatup2003 67 Posted January 3, 2014 Why not just use the typical steam sprays rather than trying to code in a vector drawing system? They could. I just thought vector base images might be lighter on the system. Hello there This IS doable.....in a way. Arma does it with the Squad.xml system. Have a google. aodqw97 78 Posted January 3, 2014 I like the patch idea. I've advocated Steam style sprays a couple of times but they don't seem to meet with a widespread approval.
ZedsDeadBaby 2287 Posted January 3, 2014 Spray works for military helmets, masks, or other such items. I think iron-on patches would be great for backpacks, shirts and pants. Armbands worn high on the shoulder would be great for visual identification too; just let me tear color strips from whatever clothing I find. "Ruin" the item itself, but give me 2-3 strips of cloth I can tie around my arm, ankle or even head. Squad identification is a really important tactical advantage. I hope they pursue this. The problem with just "wear uncommon stuff" is it puts a burden on the design team to ensure that equipment with a more valuable function exists in a large enough variety to not same-ify everyone. For example right now the military helmet is the "best" headwear in the game, so players are faced with the decision of being less defended, or looking like everyone else. That's not a very ineresting trade-off to present in the game. It's kind of a no-brainer. Of course you take the helmet and try to compensate with masks or better mic comms. Separating identification bits and pieces from the function of specific gear means people can always make an effort to look like each other, even if they don't have precisely the same items or load-out. I think that's important.

Do you risk suffering massive exhaustion penalties from running and sprinting when you travel completely overloaded with vest, over-vest, insane backpack full of whatever, helmet, gasmask and whatnot....or do you travel light, allowing you to sprint and run for a long time while keeping a stable aim once you stop. Until then, of course people will just load themselves up with EVEYRTHING. Edited January 3, 2014 by Mutonizer
