This is not what I hoped DayZ would be

Recommended Posts

More impressive than opening a virtual can of beans.

Why would I wait for you to be "equally well equipped and knowledgeable" to engage you? How does that make any sense at all? What famous military commanders were known for saying "No, men. If we attack now we will definitely win and that would just be lame. Let's hold back and let them recruit more people, build more tanks and planes, and only attack once the playing field is nice and even. That way, when we win this war, we will really have something to be proud of."

The answer? No general. No general ever said that because it's super, super stupid.

Absolutely :D

Gotta love this thread, it's my favourite one yet!

wait.. u never played the mod but u buy an !ALPHA! version and now u are complaining?????

well.. your fault.

The fact it's alpha has little to do with player behavoiur.

Sure, people get bored faster and resort to KOSing and player hunting, but it was pretty damn prevalent in the mod too.

Once it takes a considerable amount of time to gear your player (fixing server hopping, moving military spawns off the coast, reducing military gear across the board), there will be a lot less killing on sight I think. Certainly from fully geared out players anyway.

If it took me DAYS to get my camo/military garb and assault rifle, I don't think I would risk opening myself up to death like shooting near cities would.. especially after they buff the hell out of zombies and fix combat logging.

It won't be fixed completely but it won't be anywhere near as bad as it is now.

The reason it is hard to find vanilla mod servers is because people couldn't handle the harshness of the vanilla mod. The mods like epoch and such brought about a kinder, gentler, and easier Dayz experience. Most of the true die hard survival players migrated over to vanilla Namalusk servers due to the Chernarus map getting stale. Once Namalusk became "spawning with heat packs, cold weather clothing, and an AK" there wasn't anything left for us die hards. So we just bided our time till the SA came out. And we are betting on Rocket making a true apocalyptic survival game, which is what he appears to be doing. We rejoice in this and do not want those looking for an easier experience ruining it again.

The funny thing about people referring to Epoch, etc as "Easy Mode" is that they want the threat from players removed.

I cannot for the life of me imagine a game mode easier than that.

NOTE: I'm not sure if this thread was already posted, but it isn't appearing so I think my phone glitched out, if this is a repost delete this thread, please

I didn't buy a sandbox GTA, I bought a survival game, I'm not playing a game to be grieved on.

I never played the mod but I was very interested in it until I noticed the SA came out, nevertheless the PEOPLE'S attitude is what is ruining it for me, I think what's most disappointing is that a lot of griefers are proud of what they do.

I'm out for now might come back later if things change. Enjoy being assholes for the time being

Inb4 OP got killed: no I haven't in my latest and longest life but seeing as though people are getting more and more dickish it's probably for the better that I lay off for a while. I'm not in favor of KoSing for the lame excuse of preventive self defense

look at it like this there is not much to do yet in the game all you have to do is scavenge and kill the faster you find your gear the more you have nothing to do so most people just go kill for fun

They want the game to be difficult but predictable - which is exactly what a "hard AI" would be. Yes, you would get killed a lot at first, but once you learned the "rules of zombies" you could manipulate them and basically win the game.

Winning against a "hard AI" is something they can feel proud of, whereas getting repeatedly taught a lesson by people they presume to call unintelligent and childish is humiliating and difficult for them to accept. It makes them uncomfortable. Which is exactly what rocket wants. So the whole thing kind of makes me smile.

I think a lot of people are confusing what KoS and what PvP means.

Going to Balota and camping the barracks, shooting new spawns -> KoS

Going to Balota and counter sniping snipers shooting new spawns -> PvP

Sadly, almost all of these "KoS" players IMMEDIATELY log out when a bullet lands near them, but that's a whole other argument all together.

Well you're not playing DayZ, you're alpha testing it. For lots of testers there is really nothing to do aside from shoot at others. No tents, loot tables are bare bones, no cars, zombies are not even a little bit challenging, ect. It's alpha, and you know this.

There are currently for the mod, and I'm sure will be for the SA, "no pvp" servers. I checked one out this weekend and it was almost too friendly. Shit still goes down, but the violators of the policy (no stealing, no player killing) were promptly banned.

Personally I play for survival, and I play careful and smart. Aside from a few AS50 sniper shots I've taken in the mod, most potential assassins never even see me. I feel your frustration, but the essence of what I'm telling you is that there are servers where people cooperate and danger from other players is minimal.

People have killed on sight since the beginng of the mod, people still complain about it. Get over it, it's a part of the game that's not leaving.

Im curious about your opinion on something. Do you think you would feel differently if bandit/murderers were identified by a red armband of which it was said in official DayZ lore to be the armbands of mercenaries paid by the remaining local military/government structure to kill off survivors in an effort to help stop the spread of the virus. Would putting some logic to it help? Also, consider you'd be able to avoid these people with a little observation or binoculars while still having something to fear. You'd also be able to get back at those who choose to be bandits, knowing your not killing a survivor like yourself.

I don't really care, to be honest.  All I see are players acting as if they're entitled to their expectations.  It reminds me of little children throwing a tantrum at the checkout line because Mom refused to buy them candy.

The difference here is they can read, write, and have some unexplainable sense of superiority over everyone else.

Well, if you want your fucking candy, get it yourself.  Stop begging someone else to do something for you.

For fucks sakes...

While i love the PvP, it would be good to have a single player experience type game as well where you have to fend for yourself without the threat of idiots killing you for no reason. I know its a different game, but there are pure PvE servers in World of Warcraft for example. Might have to be a totally different game than Dayz to achieve this sort of thing, but for some people it could still be a challenging game. Not everyone likes PvP, not everyone wants to play purely against a computer AI.

It would be nice, but that's not what DayZ is or ever will be.

If they're idiots, why are they killing you? Avoid and outwit them. They're idiots. It shouldn't be hard.

If this is in direct response to my post, I never said I wanted pvp removed. No where in my post does it say that. No where in my post history have I ever said such a thing. I actually argue for KoS staying in game all the time. I'm a bandit. I kill people. I don't always KoS, but yea I like the pvp in DayZ. I just don't want the game to be easy to survive in with 100's of vehicles, everyone having military grade weapons and equipment easily found, and no one having to worry about how they will survive. Stop insinuating I meant something else.

If this was not a direct response to my previous post, disregard then.

It doesnt mean maybe somebody else out there will see there is a market for a game of that type though. Being KOS does get a bit old sometimes, especially when you just get people that camp certain places all the time. Its not an overly big issue for me, but i do get how it can be frustrating for some players.

I would like to see communities pop up where asshats and asspained iindividuals such as OP are filtered out. Until the dust settles though and the cawaduty and battlecrasg players vacate, I will continue to creep around innawoods - watching.

If and when that happens, you can go and play that game.

You're right, being KoS'd does get old. There are two surefire solutions to this: 1) don't be seen (you can't be killed on sight if you remain out of sight) or 2) kill people before they kill you.

You will find both of these in healthy measure will pretty much cure your KoS affliction.

I would think that would be the preferred situation. If someone is camping a place all the time, then you have a 100% guaranteed method for avoiding them, right? Stop f'ing going there.

Didn't read the whole thread. But I do hope Dean will bring more hard-core survival elements over the course of development.

They already have. You claim to be "watching" so you should know this. There are plenty of squads and clans that don't condone unprovoked violence.

Until the dust settles though and the cawaduty and battlecrasg players vacate

I don't know what the fuck that's supposed to mean, but if you're waiting for people to stop trying to kill you, you're going to be waiting a very long time.

But the game is also about exploring and gathering equipment, resources etc. People who want to KOS will always camp the places with the best resources. Even if you are careful you will still get killed by people. I personally wouldnt want to play a PvE server on DayZ as i said before, PvP doesnt bother me, I like that part of the game. I'm just interested to see how many people would actually play on a non PvP server.

The funny thing is it's just a mentality. I don't actually KoS in the game; I just know that the fact that most people do is what makes the game interesting and will defend them until I'm blue in the face. I lived for 45 days in the mod with only 3 player kills and over 1700 zombie kills, but that's only impressive because every day I was faced with the possibility of running into some murderous asshole with a shotgun.

Nah, most of the DayZ hardcore PvP community are:

1) Too stupid to realize that 24/7 Deathmatch on SA is pretty shit

2) Too bad at FPS games where DMin' it up is fast and fun

Only way to decrease KoS/Deathmatch though is to make players not want to Deathmatch.  You have to give them a reason, otherwise the major revolving point of the game, past acquiring gear, is naturally to PvP.  Easiest way to do that is make PvE more engaging, but with only slow unthreatening zombies around, that's unlikely.

PvP has its place, but in DayZ it's actually quite boring and repetitive.  Idiots never tire of repetition and are entertained easily though, so, there you go.
