The road

Recommended Posts

the way the game stands now the way the players are the game reminds me alot of the road minus the death from radiation.

but we have no animals every human is hostile. and if you remember the scene where he robs the guy of his clothes.

hell even the swim he takes to the wrecked ship. hopefully we get cannabalism i won't partake being a friendly but i do like the tension of running from you bastards trying to eat me. so with that i ask do you have the fire?

That movie freaked me out man. I just kept thinking about if that was me and my boy. Fuck that shit. Crazy movie. You are right it is similar. Most interactions I have now I wave, then they shoot at me and I run off. Or they charge me with an axe and I shoot them.

There was no nukes or radiation in The road :/

Did anyone read the books or watch the movie ?

While it is not specifically stated what caused the world to end it is hinted through out.

#1 It rains ash.

#2 Temperature dropped dramatically

#3 There are constant earthquakes and fires

There are 2 possibilities of what caused the apocalypse.

#1 Massive volcanic erupting that filled the sky with ash and caused a new ice age by blocking out the sun. Most likely Yellow stone national park blew.

#2 Meteor or asteroid strike .

No nukes though.

I read the book and watched the movie, both disturbingly awesome

And I agree with Gibonez, more likely that it was some kind of natural disaster. But that is what makes it such a good story, you don't get to know wtf happened

I always had a "the Road" kind of feeling while playing Dayz, and I think that is what Dean is aiming for.

So go Rocket! :D

Here is some food for thought.

Yellow stone is set to detonate soon. Here is an old outdated estimate of what would happen when yellowstone erupts.

This btw is really old new estimates show that yellowstone is much much much bigger than previous surveys. When Yellowstone erupts life was we know it will be over, a new ice age will hit the world and the human race will probably be wiped off .

I have always wanted to know if Rocket took any cues from that book. It certainly does reference "blood cults," and there seem to be a lot of people interested in blood in the standalone :D

That movie trailer did not even come close to representing the actual show. Girl and I saw it on demand or something, thought we would knock out a Vigo action flick, cracked some fresh drinks, and the next thing we know, the end credits are rolling.

Neither her or I touched our beer, she had tears on her face and didn't know it, and I had a man tear gleaming.

Needs a warning label for despair, especially for certain parts.

I loved to book and enjoyed the movie and Rocket has definitely mentioned The Road a couple of times. I loved that everybody automatically assumed that pulling a gun on someone was considered a bluff, since most ammunition had been sparse or gone for years. I mean, if the wife were pregnant when the world ended, the man and the boy would have had to been carrying the light for several years. Notice how I'm using the language from the book, indicating I'm well read and shit.

However I do think the world portrayed in The Road was suicidally depressing and that we kind of need our loaded firearms and other types of sexy loot to keep us going. I mean the only joy in The Road was finding the world's last ever Coca-cola and taking an ice cold bath in a stream under an ash grey sky. I love traveling DayZ's countryside, I wound't last 30 minutes in The Road, I'd hang myself from the nearest lighthouse.

Wait till you read the book.

Movie was ok but the book was truly life changing stuff.

Naah, we have survived ice ages before. A drastic population drop, sure, but we'll adapt :b

Humans now are not the same hearty tough as nails humans that survived the ice age.

Humans now are weak due to civilization we stopped evolving and no longer are the fittest and toughest the only ones who survive and spread their gene.

The fat, the weak, the maim and the lame all have equal shot at reproducing so long as they have money.

I don't know where to begin with this. Humans are not weak due to civilization. Evolution, in the Darwinian sense, is always in motion. A natural law, if you will. If civilization did "collapse" then humans would adapt (if any survived) and procreate. The ones who survive (it is nearly impossible to predict evolution) will share their culture and continue to evolve and adapt.

Humans, like all living things, have the instinct to survive. We depend on different technology (we have always depended on technology as it is a result of us surviving) today but that does not mean we would not create new technology to help us adapt and survive. In history, humans have always found a way to survive. To compare us to Man during ice age is interesting for a party conversation but does not really hold water when we look towards the future. Humans have different knowledge now and that could play a role in future survival.

We've come a certain way since the ice age and while we're certainly not as fit, these guys reached old age in their thirties.

I enjoyed both, probably the book more, but I promised myself never to read or watch this soul destroying story again.

If you ever need life-shattering grief to drive all coherent thought from your mind for at least a few hours, then The Road is for you.

DayZ sort of achieves the same feel, until the bandit sniping Chernogorsk spots you and starts unloading which you're digging into your baked beans with a bent, rusty kitchen knife.

Meh, it was an excellent novel but I don't think some of you are very well read if it was life shattering. To each his own, I suppose.

The book was much more intense than the movie.  I know they definitely lightened up some parts of the movie in comparison to the book.  Specifically the violence.

The cannibalism part was very intense. I rarely get unnerved by films generally but I felt awful after watching that scene.

However yeah DayZ reminds of The Road a lot. Especially the player interaction and gathering loot.

I guess I just prefer the movie because of the acting and music. Big fan of Viggo and the sound track makes the movie intense. The book was awesome and I wish the movie was two times longer to account for more of the story.

Both are equally awesome in their own right!

Everyone was terrific in the movie everyone except the kid.

The kid I felt was a terrible annoying brat.

Agree with the previous poster about having a son and watching that movie. I kept putting myself in Viggo's shoes and wondering what I would do. The end was heart wrenching for me I'll tell you that.

As for DayZ, yes I very much get a "The Road" feeling while playing it solo. Its probably one of the reason I avoid going to the southern part of the map. Would much rather play in the Northwest, Northeast, and Eastern portions.
