The new north

Recommended Posts

So I've been to the new north, I was at NWAF and wanted to go to the shipwreck since I have never been there so I thought I'd go north and then east so I got so see a lot from this new part of the map, here I will sum up what I liked from it and some suggestions, first of all the area is very much a work in progress, you can tell because there are som parts where there is roads layed out like it was a little town, but there's no buildings, so yeah:

What I liked:

The environments are beautiful, it's got some amazing mountains and rocky places, I found a place north of guba full of rocks that looked amazing and it would be awesome to make a base there it's like a maze of rocks, that's pretty much all there is to say about it, since as I said before it is very much a work in progress and there isn't really much to see apart from the awesome mountains and rocky formations

My suggestions:

I want to see important places there, I don't want it to have a couple of towns the size of Bor, because it's not going to be useful in any way, there's got to be at least one major town and a military base up there, because if not then nobody is going to go up there because it is pretty much away from everything so if you get hungry and you don't have any more food, it is going to take a while to get back to the south where you can find stuff, so you'll probably starve to death, as I said before there isn't really a whole lot to say about it, so that is pretty much it for now.

What do you guys think about this new area?

When the North is done it will a be a hot area to go to. As of now, it's kind of vacant of buildings. Some do exist and there are some areas that look like place-holders for towns but all in all, currently not a good place to visit for loot. We will just have to be patient and wait to see the development that progresses way up north, will be most excellent when done.

I can say one thing, it's nice and quiet up there.  :)

Right now there are way too many guns, I can be fully geared up in clothes and guns in 30 minutes if I am killed.

Heh, for me it was just something that needed to be done. Started off the journey at Kamenka, North past NWAF. Hit the Map end up North and then meandered East towards Berezhino. Was a good journey but a lot of supplies were eaten/drunk along the way. A couple of areas up there where you can find loot but not many at all.

North needs to be endgame, its just stupid that a place where you can spawn(Balota) has more barracks than NWA, back in vanilla everyone went to NWA and it was always action there, so u had to be careful. I've seen it happen to so many server on Dayz Mod, they've added barracks in the south and NWA is suddently dead. That's what DayZero did so perfectly well, they had 3 barracks at NWA no other place and it was epic, always action at NWA like in the good ol dayz.

That rocky area north of Guba is nice. I was there last night. The north already has the NEAF for military, and there's going to be hunting to get food eventually. That said, I would love to see Guba grow about 10x the size it currently is. Make it a nice little port city.

I'm up north also... Don't understand people having problems - I never played the mod and only have 12 hours on the game... My fourth character (currently alive) is up north with seven hours play time... I've had no problems with food and such either.

I agree - it's an awesome looking place, but it's pretty bare - however, I feel like as bases (tents and campfires at the most basic form) and hunting etc are implemented, it will get a lot more interesting.

I spend 80% of my play time in the deep north. The other twenty is properly gearing for the trip there. Canteens, food, vitamins. After that, throw some Journey in the cassette player, and huff it for an hour. Next thing you know your running across unlooted areas like the Bashyna, and the tent end of the northwest airfield. Maybe you go far enough, and hit 8slot garage bays, teeming with goodies.

I'm wandering around there now, there is not much to see. A large tangle of roads, and some other random buildings, but not much else. I'm about to die of thirst so thanks to the games bugged thirst and lack of loot but oh well, I've gone too far to come back down :/

You can use water pumps - if you really don't want to find them (their in most towns in back gardens and small hamlets in isolated areas) you can google DayZ standalone map - there's one which shows all their locations.

Did the same thing myself and it looks like the infected knocked off all the property developers in Chenarus .

Also looks like either a meteor struck up there or there is going to be a lake (may well have been there since the mod but first time I've seen the crater).

Some cools rocky areas which got me thinking about caves to explore or take up residence in.

That was my salvation the first time I ventured north. Left with a full backpack of food and drink, ended up finding that 8 slot garage on the brink of dehydration. But, I didn't really know how to properly eat and drink back then either.

I spawned in Balota with my second or third character ... not sure, I think the first couple died pretty quickly. Somehow survived Balota, up through Green Mountain, hit Pustoshka, found an NW map, saw this new area NW of Lopatino and decided to check it out. It's pretty cool. Railroad starts there, some industrial, lots of garages, a train station and an office building. Decided to run West to East to check out NE airfield and the areas NE of that. I've played on full servers and have seen no one. Not a single player. I did not hit NW, but did go to Devil's Castle, then Gvodzno. Just ran through NE Airfield after Krasnostav. Killed plenty of zombies, although they're rare. At full health, overstocked with food and water and almost fully geared. After NE noticed an easter egg on the map: The Cerne Abbas Giant, NE of NE. If you want to find it, just go almost due north from the easternmost end of the NE airfield. I mean on the map. Anyway, all that said I cannot possibly carry all of the food and drink I find, so actually being able to survive is easy up north. I've been healthy since Lopatino, and even a zombie hit that causes bleeding heals almost immediately.

If you can find a lake or stream you can sometimes get a place to drink water/fill bottles. I usually run around the edge of water scrolling my mouse while looking down until i see the "drink" text flash then have to home in on the exact spot. Drinking from bodies of water is in, it's just very glitchy right now.

In my experience so far, going into first person always gets the drink water dialog from streams or ponds.

I don't really understand the trouble people are having my trip has been pretty safe so far, the trick is in not going in cherno if you don't see any zombies because that means it has been looted, so it probably will be full of bandits killing people, the funny thing is, this life I started out in cherno, went to check the barracks at balota, then went to zeleno, after that I went ot the base south of NWAF, then to NWAF, then to devil's castle, the to the new north, ended up on the shipwreck and disconnected on the woods near the ship, with no trouble, killed one player after he said he was friendly and tried killing me with a bat, but I'm fully geared up with 100+ rounds for my m4 with a red dot sight and a tan handguard, I haven't really gotten any problems to survive, got LOADED with food at zeleno, so that is a definite, place to go

just spent 5 hours today getting up there, its fucking awesome...but lesson learned after my character wiped...haha

not till at least the character save data is stable...was a very fun journey though.

i fucking hate the lack of gear at the coast...unless you server hop.

that has to be fixed too.

I'd like em to spawn people all around the out edges of the map so people would be coming past each other more often rather than following a path behind someone else, maintaining the distance. Not sure how you'd prevent people from going further north or west and getting lost though.
