CGNoodlePot (DayZ)

A more realistic CAMPFIRE ingredients that is already available in game

Recommended Posts

well you might need stones if you gonna sleep around that fire and dont wanna wake up in flames + stones can keep you warm

That stones do, what we could hope to see possible would be something that has to actually deal with warmth(that actually works) and for when night time comes or winter season it gets cold and you have to stay warm in some way and somehow otherwise you start to get sick and could actually catch frost bite and things like that, with frost bite limbs stop working and they need to be amputated with a sterile medical bone saw but since we have nice modern technology, you could find prosthetic limbs and such to re-enable use of the limb after amputation, I know this could be possible, but it would need a lot of coding that would work, but it would be a cool feature to see in DayZ and to see how realistic it is. But to keep with the fire idea, fire wards away frost bite and the cold so that you could avoid amputation, and with warm clothing that should exist would be a nice feature to the game, I don't know how some people would like it, but that's just me. I like realistic games, I think they are cool, and DayZ could become one if they add stuff in like that.

"I had to cut my own leg off because of frostbite yesterday. I found this prosthetic leg in an apartment complex today though and now I am just as functional as when I had my real leg."

I like this idea of burning books. Does anyone know what books are intended to be for, anyway? Also, stones should be gathered in a different way. Let's face it, they're everywhere. So, players should be able to select, Make A Campfire, and stones should appear hidden in grass, and you should have to go find them and bring them back. The more people you have working together, the faster you can accomplish this and start the fire. This frees up the item spawn point for more useful items.

Prosthetics??? That's AWESOME.

Burning books is a crime against humanity > :(

:P

Admittedly, there's not much humanity left after a zombie apocalypse.....

I must say i thought the stones were for throwing at the zombies, ala shaun of the dead

That makes two of us.... couldn't find the "Throw stone" option in the menu, though... ;)

If you had the choice between freezing your ass off and freezing your half ass off at a camp fire you would try to light one up nonetheless.

I agree, and imagine sitting on top of a hill at night, watching the campfires come to life across the countryside as survivors begin digging in for the night. That would be a spectacular view.

Do we really need stones? I mean, who needs stones to build a campfire? Just firewood.

The same reason you need stones in RL brah. They help retain heat of the fire and stop it from spreading thats just science bitch. (Breaking Bad reference not being a dick)

I agree, it is a stupid item that seems pointless to have in the game.  Why not just have the rocks just show like they did in the mod when you actually created the fire?  Why make something so simple that much more complicated?  I see maybe when they get crafting going that you could have a permanent fire pit or something but even then, what paranoid DayZ hoarder would want to expose his "underground lair" by making a permanent fire pit, lol.

Books however, should either give a slight crafting boost or just be removed because it's another junk loot that you really don't need in an alpha at this point in time...

Lol it's just a tedious item that isn't necessary for gameplay, it's not like you wouldn't find rocks laying around in the forest rather than having to loot them in buildings? Lol makes no sense, yo.

also you would need dried wood to make a campfire, freshly chopped doesn't burn that well and makes a lot more smoke. there should be many different ways/materials to start a fire with and the fire itself could also be different (size/visibility, amount of smoke...), i think most ppl would fail starting a fire with a hatchet and matches in rl...

That's what I was about to say. You want to make building fires more difficult? Have some dynamic variable so when it rains all wood becomes moist for a couple of hours and it's almost impossible to start a fire without adding some gasoline for example. Also true that moist/fresh wood produces much more smoke than dried up/dead wood. Also a nice idea would be rain putting off the fire. Or even strong winds. But for balancing reasons one should be able to make fires inside every enterable building (maybe with a chance the whole building goes up in flames, but that would need a lot of dev work and I'm sure it would get exploited much).

This thread is also in the wrong topic. Its in DayZ Mod when it should be located in DayZ since you are talking about standalone and not the mod version of DayZ. Will the OP please change this?

You should have different options to contain fire within fireplace. Like having entrenching tool to dig a hole and make fireplace inside or using rocks or whatever you can think of. And then have an option to make it without any but then it should be in place where fire couldn't not spread out by itself.

I feel really really bad about burning books. Its just so immoral. Fahrenheit 451 anyone?

Otherwise...in a survival situation I guess it's needed.

Also! Who forgot shorting batteries can start fires? A use for batteries would be great.
