dayzhopeful 30 Posted December 27, 2013 So yesterday i was in the airport building and someone was up stairs we were having a good old mexican stand off and i was waiting for him to come down, little did i know he had logged into a different server walked behind me and then spawned back in and killed me from behind. This is pathetic and is completely exploiting the game. I personally and i am sure a lot of people would not use this exploit because it ruins the entire point of playing but dying is bad enough on this game, dying to a cheat makes it hard to keep my faith in the game. I can not think of any way to combat this really except maybe putting a timer on people logging out. Any ideas on how to stop this, can it even be stopped and has anyone had anyone use server hopping to there advantage to kill you ??

Aussie Bogan 350 Posted December 27, 2013 (edited) Insightful reply, i can tell you care. Perhaps about the first thread addressing this issue. But after the 1000th thread address the same topic... It's only natural for one to lose interest... Especially when people are too lazy to bother reading before they post ;) Edited December 27, 2013 by Aussie Bogan
Khad (DayZ) 293 Posted December 27, 2013 Combat logging and server hopping are permanent features of the dayz standalone ;)We've raided the military base near kabanino with a 5 man squad yesterday, when we've seen a guy running over the open field towards the base. As we arrived and have known, that there must be a geared up player, who just looted, we where freakin' careful and secured the base in a professional way 8D. A few minutes later, we realized, that he just hopped the server, looted, and logged out. So we were not able to rob him or get any amunition. It wasn't really bad, because we're quite good geared, but it sucks though :( NWF will be the next stop /o/
jackal40k@cfu.net 98 Posted December 27, 2013 I was camping Balota airfield yesterday near the barracks waiting to murder server hoppers. Wasn't long before two people logged onto the server and I saw two guys running towards the barracks. It was night and I was prone in the grass in front of the barracks and one of them ran right past me. As he came out I fired but the dot in 3rd person fires lower than iron scopes so I just shot the dirt in front of me. I moved a bit over to a house next to them and crouched in a dark corner and waited. About 2 minutes later the guy I had shot at with a big ass sniper rifle ran past me. I shot him in the back and blood started squirting out of him. He combat logged and his buddy said over mic drop your weapon dude. I told him to go fk himself and as he came around the corner we shot at eachother. I died, he probably didn't. If you're such a little whuss that you have to combat log and server hop to gear up and stay alive then maybe you should go play Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

I posed lots of questions so people can have a discussion if you have nothing to add that's great but if not just say that you have nothing useful to add in the future. Got it

Will the gear, someone looted, respawn after the player switched the server? This could be one solution. Edited December 27, 2013 by Khad

Yet they can be so easily ruined by your opponent combat logging. >:(

Terpy (DayZ) 21 Posted December 27, 2013 But i really wonder how they will "fix" it, if they want to save the hive-system? Will the gear, someone looted, respawn after the player switched the server? This could be one solution. From what I heard in one of Rockets Q&A sessions, I think they're going to implement some sort of a monitoring system that will be able to detect if you're server hopping and have some sort of timer that will put you in a "time out". So if you've logged in and out of X number of servers within a certain amount of time, the next time you try to log on, you'll have to wait a certain amount of time. I know they put in a patch so that if you log out while unconscious, you die. They could go a step further and make it so that if you log out while bleeding, you die. That should deter a lot of combat logging right there. I can't think of a single situation where I couldn't at least bandage myself before legitimately logging off (unless my connection timed out). ☣BioHaze☣ 7337 Posted December 27, 2013 I have a solution... Use the search function. There's been a million topics addressing this problem. A million. Per day. At least. If you're new to DayZ and have just experienced something in game and are considering posting about it ask yourself this question, "Is it possible that what I am thinking or what I have just experienced was experienced or thought of by another player either in the mod or in the standalone prior to my thinking of it?" Just considering the mod is over 18months old should answer that question every time as "Yes, most likely someone else has thought of this and probably made a thread about it." Then search the topic with keywords. Find the most popular thread on the subject.... it might even be a sticky thread! Add your wonderful story and thoughts about the topic, read other peoples long eloquent well thought out posts on same. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=search&fromMainBar=1 *A simple log out timer will solve a large part of this and will likely be implemented. You will of course be able to quit the game but your character will remain on map to be killed/looted/whatever'd for a set amount of minutes upon disconnect. Everyone has said everything before so if people actually listened to you no one would be posting, do you think in your 800 plus posts you have not repeated something someone else has said and that goes for all the other 'veterans'. I am new to the forum and i want to make my own post, if you dont wish to answer then dont, no one wants your opinions about whether i should be posting or not it is completely irrelevant to the actual post and just throws it off course. What have any off you actually added to this thread?? And yet if actual 'new players' were reading they would be intrigued in case they do not use the search function either. This is aimed more at the people above biohazard but i do know how to use a search function. Edited December 27, 2013 by dayzhopeful

I guess there are a lot of posters here namely the ones telling me to use the search function that are breaking some of these rules. 'Please use the search function (or, merely search the forums yourself) before posting to ensure that multiple topics for the same issues are not created.' That is not in the forum rules and actually the use of the word please suggests that it is not a rule like the others.
