Any tips for FPS boost (AMD) ?

Been trying to fiddle around with settings now trying too get some more FPS since this is barley playable.

 

First tried these launch options: -window -nosplash -skipIntro -world=empty -maxMem=2047 -cpuCount=8 -exThreads=7

Then I tried with just:  -window -nosplash -skipIntro -world=empty

So seams like I have load on all cores in both cases so probably no need for the -cpuCount parameter.

Anyway, the GPU load was about 42% and the CPU is not on 100% load. Is there anyway too make the friggin' game use the other 58% of the GPU?

Rendering Resolutin: 1887x1223 (100%) (This is becaus of the window mode now, usually i run game fullscreen @ 2560x1440)

VSync: off

Video Memory: Auto

Texture Detail: High

Texture Filtering: High

AA: Normal

Alpah to coverage: Disabled

Edge smoothing: Disabled

HDR Quality: Low

Ambient Occolition: Disabled

Unfortunately the low fps is not down to the GPU even if it was on 100% it would not improve the fps.

It's down to the CPU the GPU is only at that because it's all it needs.

I have an AMD Phenom  II X4 965 BE (3.4GHz OC to 3.9) which is supposed to be a lot worse than yours but I'm averaging 45 fps in woods and small towns(20 in cherno) at 1080p. I also only have 4gb of RAM at the moment. Surely there is something you're missing.

 

Also, settings are medium, some high.

Yup, sounds strange... Gonna OC my FX-8350 to 4.5Ghz now and see if it makes any difference. Running 8GB ram.

What GPU are you running? Another reason could be background processes. Make sure you don't have many applications open in the background(sounds obvious).

Just thinking outside the box here. Could Dayz be ones of those wierd games were using higher settings moves more of the load to the gpu from the cpu? I know a few other games that I get higher fps on med/high settings than low/med due to my cpu being very old, but my gpu being fairly up to date.

I'm having trouble with my FX 6200 as well.  

 

I'm just hoping the game gets better optimization as time goes on.   I've talked to guys with really high end rigs that are still having fps issues.   

 

I'm going to upgrade my CPU in the future either to an 8350 or just the ship to intel.

I already said it a 1000 times, if you have a super rig and run with 20 fps.. harddrive actually matters so much for arma2. Move your game to an ssd or to your best reading harddrive (you can test this with CrystalDiskMark).

I got no HDD in my rig, pure SSD. Running at maximum performance.

Somebody mentioned unparking cores, but didn't explain it. Here's the deal: Energy star compliant products get grant money. New versions of Windows come with embedded software that "parks" CPU cores to save energy. If an application does not specifically request all cores then it only gets the minimum. You can use a 3rd party application to easily edit your registry and disable the parking software embedded in Windows. Disabling the parking software allows your games to access all your cores all the time.

Edit to add: Arma engine is very CPU intensive. Doing this got me an immediate 15 FPS boost in the mod and the standalone runs fine on high settings except for places like Cherno.

Do note that the video settings don't actually affect your CPU very much, if at all. They are video options that are handled by your video card.
