It's not set in the Czech Republic. Chernarus is a nation, with its own armed forces

Chernarus is a place in Czech Republic.

So what are you saying? are we using real life familiarities/ can we just make up whatever the hell we want.

Personally I want it based on real life Czech republic police force weaponry.

A real life place gives a real life standpoint which ultimately ends in a realistic game.

I suppose at the end of the day 1 weapon out of place isn't going to kill the lore.

But maybe we need some sort of formal agreement on what the weaponry is going to be based off.

Maybe we should just say Eastern bloc and put an end to any narrowing down/ exclusion of loved firearms, except western ones.

Regardless of which military forces used what, I think the Tokarev and CZ52 are such iconic and prolific guns that it'd be frustrating if they never made it into the game. I'd be more than happy to model and texture some of the guns listed here if the DayZ team will take them (Harry can probably vouch for my ability).

i was reluctant to add that to the list because its very unlikely we would ever see it ingame. the VSS ammo is completely unique to the VSS, plus its unique magazines. It could not share with any other weapon and as you may remember from the mod, they dont like adding too many ammo types to the loot tables.

besides that, for the reasons above it is an un-ideal survival gun.

From all of the guns you've shown we have;

  • 9x18mm
  • 9x19mm Luger
  • .22LR
  • .223 (5.56x45mm)
  • .308 (7.62x51mm)
  • .338 Lapua
  • 5.45x39mm
  • 7.62x39mm
  • 7.62x54mmR
  • 12 Gauge
  • .45ACP
  • .357 Magnum/.38 Special
  • A LOT MORE

If we did end up seeing all of these ammunition would still be very different, but I guess you're right in that the VSS is literally the only gun that uses that ammo, whereas all of these other types can be used in multiple weapons.

If you do, please (emphasis) do a Ruger Mini-14 and a TDI Vector. I absolutely want to see those guns so much (They are two of my favorite weapons, ever).

Also, maybe a Yugoslavian M/56 SKS (With polymer furniture)

As many gun variants as possible should be added, I think - but maybe standardize ammo a little more than real life to make it easier.

Once vehicles and bases (tents, omg, want) have been added, it'd be very nice to build up a stash of weapons.

I don't like the idea of over-standardizing ammo. I heard somewhere that someone wanted to make every 7.62 gun take the same ammo, despite there being 4 common 7.62 calibers (7.62x25, 7.62x39, 7.62x51 NATO, 7.62x54R). It's just unrealistic, and IIRC the ArmA II engine uses the cartridge itself for damage/ballistics, not the gun (unless this was changed for DayZ). So with every gun using the same generic "7.62mm" ammo, you'd have a Mosin doing the same damage as an AKM (which doesn't make any sense).

I think an abundance of ammo types wouldn't be a problem if the loot drop was coded to encourage guns to spawn with some of their appropriate ammo. For a while in DayZ standalone I had an M4 and 100 rounds of 7.62x54R, and couldn't find any 5.56 for ages. Kept finding more and more M4s and 7.62 rounds, but no ammo for the gun I actually had. Military weapons like this ought to only spawn in military bases alongside loaded magazines or big ammo boxes, while civilian weapons in more generic calibers (like 12 gauge shotguns) would have their ammo scattered throughout houses.

Are there any police stations in DayZ? What kind of weaponry would Chernarus PD use? It'd be cool to see their standard loadout (whatever that may be) spawn in police station armories. Maybe a Glock 17 could be their standard sidearm.

and that would be exactly the point. I don't actually want half the guns on this list to be in. It's meant to be a data collecting exercise, not a "who agrees with my choices" thing.

As for your mention of the TDI vector, you are probably playing the wrong game if you want stuff like that. It fits more in arma 3.

I don't particularly like the idea of standardising ammo, but it's nothing but practical.

Seriously, having every kind of ammo you would in real life would be ridiculous to manage - and take up huge amounts of inventory space once tents and vehicles are added and people start collecting each weapon.

Currently, they already do (SKS + Mosin = same ammunition).

Just hope it's an unfinished placeholder and not a gameplay decision...

Yeah, it would not be much more realistic than the VSS vintorez. I just think it's a 'cool gun'. And it actually is in Arma 3. Although if someone went through the effort to make a model and weapon I would be fine with it having a 0.001% spawn rate.

I do stand by the Yugoslavian SKS and Mini-14 as they would be plausible, to say the least.

(They could justify it as a special-operations/testing weapon though. It's not like the Vector is any less likely to appear than the FNX-45 or Blaser B97 rifle which will be added later)

With current bullet ballistics I wouldn't say a vector would be too good to have.

The .45 acp pretty much 1hk's atm.

Just keep the spawn rate rare and the damage drop sensible for anything like that.

0.01 at 1-2 places seems right to me.

Include the M14 and WA 2000.

M14 needs to be super rare if included at all.

I love the Mini-14 but how common would it really be in Chernarus?

It shouldn't be common, if included at all.

Oh, btw Harry... C96 pls pls pls.

Make it with the buttstock/ holster aswell :)

It would need clips (the things you use to hold bullets to help load it)

I'm not sure what would be the most sensible round to put it in.

Can you really have new rounds for every couple of pistols.

I suppose you can, It would just make ammo rarer, as it should be :)

Anything long-range that I can put a silencer on would be great.

You can silence anything with a closed chamber (not revolver) find a big oil filter.
