mercules 1290 Posted December 23, 2013 To YOU. Not to random people online. My private life is important to me too, ofcourse, but not to anyone else. They don't give a shit. And you just showed that in your attempt at demeaning my private life. No offence taken. I don't chat with random people online, so what exactly is your point? I talk to people who came to visit me in the hospital when my children were born or were groomsmen at my wedding, one of them the best man. We do so while playing games, specifically DayZ SA. Your proposal would severely cramp that and there is a strong chance we would work around it not to gain an advantage over others, although there would be plenty of people doing it for that reason as well, but so we could have our conversation during the only time we now get together on a regular basis. I don't think you get that playing games online is how a large number of us interact with friends that have moved hours or even days worth of travel away. My closest friend is about a 40 minute drive away and we get together in person probably once a month because we can hop on several times a week and find out what is going on in each other's lives. That is the main reason we play online group based play is to hang out with each other.

hoschelhoff 15 Posted December 23, 2013 Anyone who thinks it is possible to reliably enforce this is generally stupid as fuck.It will never be done.. Not in this game, and not in any other in the future.Think outside the "realism-box" for once. This is impossible!Frankly i can't believe how this thread has exceeded even 2 pages..
foamninja 77 Posted December 23, 2013 Look I don't, or anyone else for that matter, want to go to Cherno and hear 8 dudes talking to each other. In turn turning Cherno into TDM central.

mercules 1290 Posted December 23, 2013 would any of this change for you if we were talking about a game, like Spades (card game), where communicating with your partner is definitely against the rules? Sadly you would still be on the honor system and if I an my friends were playing we would all be in the same channel or conversation or if just two of us playing against two others we would be talking to each other but probably avoiding talking about the cards. Personally I wouldn't play spades online because it is far to easy for someone to cheat.
foamninja 77 Posted December 23, 2013 Why do you even play this game if not for the people you'll meet?I'M ALL FOR MEETING PEOPLE! Its fucking easy to smack that caps key and just talk when you see someone! Jesus this is why I get pissed off on forums sometimes because of the ignorance you can run across. Junos 57 Posted December 23, 2013 The only way to do this would be to keep everyone's mic hot at all times. That could be a lot for large servers to handle. Maybe someday, after the game is optimized, it would be feasible. Even then, that's not foolproof. What if someone plugged in another sound card and used it for TeamSpeak? What if someone used a headset with a mic cutoff switch? What if someone used an audio driver that let them cut DayZ off from the mic by pressing a hotkey? What if they had a separate computer or other device for voice comms? What if they were sitting in the same room together? What if they were telepathically linked across the galaxy? Bottom line is, you can't control everything in Internet gaming. Just gotta deal with it. If you want something better, you'll have to have some kind of LAN event with rules and enforcement. Why are you scared of them hearing you? Because oddly enough they shoot at me when they know I am there. If I want to talk to my friend about him thinking about a vasectomy then I don't want to have to worry that every bandit in 80 meters has just zoned in on my position and is aiming at me. Since the system is ridiculously simple to exploit it's stupid to put it into the game.

Reason is it's not realistic. Edited December 23, 2013 by sai
doctorbadsign 645 Posted December 23, 2013 Mic always on? No way I'd ever want that. No way I'd ever agree to that. Just no way. I don't want people listening in on my conversations. If this is even a problem the only way it can be solved is to make direct communication more beneficial than skype or teamspeak---which would be hard, or impossible. But hey, you make the assumption that it is even a problem in the first place.
blitz 64 Posted December 23, 2013 Yeah, I feel this is also probably illegal. Not to mention I chat to family and friends through Skype while gaming, why should people have to endure what I ramble about, my friends and family suffer as it it's ;p

Reason is it's not realistic. Okay... at this point you are trolling. I don't want to get into a "Hardercore than thou" conversation with you. Let me point out that this "hardcore" game has literally hours of of low intensity play, during which you do tend to "chat" with friends. I would be totally happy to play a game that could enforce the rules you are insisting on. However, as I have pointed out it would literally take me all of 30 seconds to bypass your rules. You still haven't addressed the fact that your proposition would be completely and utterly unenforceable and so would really only affect the honest. You tried to deflect it with, "Well no one would do that or it would be a small amount." Which is utter bullshit. Go look at the Mod. The servers that offer the simple and easy way out are often the most populated. That is including those that have starting loadouts for donations and people spend actual money to start the game with a gun. You are telling me those same people wouldn't bypass your "feature" with a 30 second fix for it if they thought it would make the game easier or give them an advantage? You need to rethink that. mercules 1290 Posted December 23, 2013 Is everyone one so closed off? Do you go out side and never talk? IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT. Your system is SOOOO EASY TO EXPLOIT that it is silly beyond comprehension to even waste the time it would take to code it.

Pandema 352 Posted December 23, 2013 So.....this is 8 pages of people insisting some horrible feature is the greatest thing since sex on drugs? Theres reasons I don't use an open mic on TS, it picks up my keyboard, my mouse, every time I rub at my face, my cat meowing, my cat knocking shit on the ground, my creaky ass chair when I shift. And you're basically saying that for the sake of immersion I have to let everyone hear all the random shit that goes on in my background? That's retarded as hell quite frankly.... IcyBlade 48 Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) Lets face it, as much as I would like to swish a magic wand and say every one has to comply to my rulez cuz I said so.And have in game chat.rocket is a smart guy and he values people privacy, so forcing open chat is not an option. It also has many loop holes that could circumvent it. so No to that. There is also no other way to really force this behavior. It may be possibly however to encourage this behavior. If we focus on finding a genuinely good mechanic that could encourage in game chat by making it possibly beneficial, people would prefer to use it. This would not be full prof and there will always be people that use alternate methods for communication but we don't need to persuade everyone, just the majority. I will start us of by suggesting that if we all start with a radio or even a mobile phone, just like how we start with a torch. People would be able to use these items to find their friends rather than reverting to external communication. This may reduce the number of players using external coms as they previously needed them but now have an in game solution. More ideas are needed so keep them coming.
