How to mod DayZ Standalone?

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I know the game has only been publicly available for a few days, but I'm wondering if anybody would know anything about modding DayZ Standalone? I figure that modding it would be very similar to modding ARMA 2. I want to get started on tinkering with the game straight away, and I figure that many others do. I think it would be the best for everybody if modding was open and transparent.

Rocket has said that it'll probably be opened up for modding later, but I wouldn't expect it to happen until a good bit after full release.

I'd like to change his mind, I don't think a Cathedral development style is in the best interests of good gameplay. They are fucking rich now anyway so I don't think they will have to worry about money for a while.

The game isn't finished yet. It's like asking to mod Watchdogs. Incomplete content/engine features means with every revision they are liable to break the mods you spend so much time making, which I'm sure nobody in the modding community would be very happy about. The influx of modding related questions to the team would hinder their progress on the core game itself. I don't think modding is a very good idea right now. Furthermore, it makes the game easier to hack and promotes mod servers which draw attention away from the base alpha. So no. No modding.

Regardless of the developers intent, I believe we need to start picking apart the game files and figure out what everything is. It is inevitable.

My intentions are good, however, as I'm hoping that the community can assist with the development of game assets.

No, simple as that. Not at this time.

I could see maybe a couple of years after Final Release them allowing modding, but not before. It isn't needed. Go mod Arma 2 if you want to mod something so bad.

No matter how many 'good' people there are wanting to help make the game better, there will always be 'bad' people that want to destroy that.

It won't take that long, but I am sure it won't be before beta, which Rocket said was 6-12 months away.

And without having access to the server files, you won't get very far, and trying to run a modded client on normal servers is probably a good way to end up banned, I personally would just wait.

Sure, you can dig around in the files, but as I said, I wouldn't be attempting to mod anything right now.

The devs have rights to their product, and as long as they won't allow modding it, you shouldn't do it.

Here's a link to reddit, where Dwarden comments on porting the map: http://www.reddit.com/r/arma/comments/1t30nw/chernarus_plus_looks_gorgeous_in_arma_3/

Dude ...... give up they say this game will be alpha for at least half a year, and later in beta for at least another half year. Dont expect MODS to be out before June 2015.

It appears to be the same as modding ArmA.

Difference is, you can't implement any of the changes you make. ^_^ I think that's a good thing for the time being.

so opening the map in editor if you own both games and playing offline without releasing any content or mod, is technically within legislation?

I would think that "for personal use " is ok. The problems come when people start posting guides and vids about chernarus+ in A3 editor. Or sharing it around with friends. But from what I read its not great using it in A2/A3 editor because the ai wont react to the new buildings or something :)

EDIT - I may be wrong though lol

your probably right ^ ^

I have also googled a lot and some people seem to be using tunngle to create a LAN game of Day Z . SOmething i really want to be able to do is just explore on my own or with a couple friends on local or private so that would be ideal for me. I dunno how to do it but yea the info is out there, I assume that would be breaking all the rules..

Hell yeah I love when most of my YouTube views come from Tutorials on how to port DayZ SA to Arma 3, and people asking me how to do it.
