I hope a future patch makes the chat an optional thing' date=' much like third person. Have the server owners decide whether they want to have the chat or not.

+100. It should be optional. I LOVE the side chat. W/o the game is boring (apart form other countless issues that make the game boring - only a handful of town worth looting, not enough vehicles etc )


Please fix the broken leg syndrome next patch.Remove it till you find a good workaround PLZZZ. Lost so many characters to this while running away up hills and slowing down/speeding up etc.

+100. Also spawn more vehicles. Only cheaters and clan member have them. And they also cheat storing the off maps. Pathetic.

No, you're stupid. You think the game needs more vehicles? I have found SO many by myself.

He didn't say you had to crawl, if you had morphine you could be up straight away, and crawling is an option, it doesn't take DAYS it takes about 20-30 minutes.

All the vehicles are hoarded off map by clan / admins. Vehicles should MORE common. You get that right ?

20-30 to crawl ? If I am god knows where it takes 30 min to RUN. Crawling would take days.


Gun spawn should be nerfed ^__^

This might be your opinion, I liked the side chat. That's why there should be an option for turning it on or off. With that, everyone can be happy. Except for whiny guys, who think that everything has to be one way or it sucks.

The "good old times" was an exaggeration. I used the side chat to scout out an area for friendlies, now I most likely have to shoot on sight or I will get killed. "Behind you" in side has a whole different idea behind it. If I am close enough to someone I would use direct comm and talk not write, but I would never talk on side (it happend once, it was an accident).

IMHO chat was useful if some guy got broken bones somewhere far from hospitals. It was also useful to help new players understand some things about game controls and where they are on the map.

A sort of emergency signal/beacon device would be useful to replace it - other survivors with a radio/map would see the location on the map and could come to kill the player or help him out, or bandits could use it to make ambushes for other players.

Maybe you would get a humanity/karma increase if you bandage/heal/morphine other players and this karma would make you "luckier" as in give you better chances to find good loot.

Rocket was talking about baby monitors and short range radio communication in a live stream - would be awesome to have loot/weapon stashes hid away in forests or towns that can only be detected by their beep which goes stronger as you get close to them ... sort of like the Morse code radio stations in Fallout 3 or the modern geocaching.

It wouldn't be unrealistic for other survivors to have started to hide for themselves weapons and excess food at various places in the island.

Side was OK.

It really help communication between survivors.

Removing the bandit skin and side chat was a move into death match for everybody.

Now I barely try to communicate just shoot everybody on sight.

With side chat at last you can try to talk from some distance(from safe location).

Why I should risk to move to somebody to try to talk when I can just kill him from 400 meters?

I help some guys who desperately need help(broken bones in Vybor) and I get help from a man called D(like Duncan) when I have broken legs in Zelenogorsk. Thanks to side chat.

Side chat add some depth to gameplay.

so you only play dayz because of the side chat? thats... dumb...

if you want to chat, go find people and talk in direct chat or join the irc channel, or play with people on ts (best gameplay)

Direct chat is much better i don't care about side chat its filled with trolls and is just annoying direct chat is better but ya i agree they should increase the range!

All opinions about side chat are of course valid. That's why we need to have it optional for the servers to enable it or not.

I understand technically a mod developer is not expected or forced to release information about updates, since we, the players, are not direct customers of the mod, but a moral obligation to the hundreds of thousands of Arma 2 CO buyers is indeed present, so please, Rocket, pop us an ETA on the development's next phase or at least tell us the crack.

there is nothing moral about it. there is no obligation about it. he is doing this on his own time. just like you or i could. obviously you and i cant do anything this cool, or we would. but i sure as shit wouldnt have any kind of obligation to you, moral or otherwise. neither does rocket.

My suggestion for side-chat:

What if you could find a walkie-talkie (it actually exists in vanilla-arma) which "activates" the side-chat only for you and for people who have one, too? That means only you and those other people can write into/read the side-chat. Maybe you could even have an option to turn it on or off... so you are not forced to use it. The walkie talkie could use batteries, which you have to loot and go empty after a while. So you are forced to use the side-chat in a reasonable way or when it's necessary...

On my opinion the side-chat was very useful to find friendlies/team up and have communication between players. Note: not everyone has teamspeak.

I think that the direct-communication is almost useless because of the shoot-on-sight behaviour of most of the players (my experience).

Now, most of the time i'm walking around alone and have no contact to other players (it gets boring after a while). When i have one, either me or he is dead because shoot-on-sight is the best idea... :-/ Or i just avoid contact to others at all.

What stopped an Arma-II match being dueling sniper rifles at extreme range out of interest? Given their power and the large open areas / cover that suit them so well. I could see it if the map was all CQB, where sniper rifles have weaknesses, but on a map like Chernarus...

You fixing hackers in this update? This is the third time I have been killed by an apache when I cannot do anything about it.

We also lost the Ural I spent all day fixing with a heap of weapons from NW airfield and Stary. Close to 200 slots of ammo plus 20+ high level weapons my mates and I have been collecting for the last 3 days gone.

The bus we were using to do public transport runs along the coast and a white Hilux.

He's just flying around the map with the vehicle radar blowing up any vehicle he can find and killing all the players.

This was on NZ 10 at 1am AEST. To compound issues a week ago a nuke went of on NZ 9 and killed everyone in the server, another three days of time lost when that happened...it's pretty frustrating and I'm kind of at the point of just staying in Cherno killing everyone I see because I know that if I get anything better a hacker will come along and ruin it.

It's impossible to stop hack 100%, they will just script new once, SURE u can counter it but Dayz haz such a little staff i'm not sure they have time for it all the time and that is what they need to do.

A realism mod needs to make it as real as possible, and you can't magically chat with people 20km away in a zombie apocalypse.

If at all, make it so you need radios with batteries, which both spawn extremly rare. I think we will see something like this later on.

But for now its side chat off, if you want to chat go on steam or xfire to chat ingame or just hook up on ts, no need for 40+ people to read all that.
