Sniper Rifles

Recommended Posts

I guess people missed the numerous parts where it was said even during the times before the SA came out, that the SA would be a more "bummy" game and not a milsim like the mod. IE there will be some assault rifles, some bolt action rifles, some shotguns and handguns but there's not going to be any of this ridiculous .50 cal/lmg nonsense in the SA

is cz 550 gonna be implemented or its .50 cal ?

While I'm not sure if it's going to be added, it's the same caliber as the DMR/M24 in the mod so I'd expect the same here were it to be added.

"but there's not going to be any of this ridiculous .50 cal/lmg nonsense in the SA"

Lmg = Light machine gun. Noting to do with .50c

Lmg = uses from 5.56 up to 7.62 rounds.

I don't actully dont see a problem with a lmg rare weapon but they need to add some oil or something weapon maintaince.

I am not against adding anti-material rifles to the game eventually. That being said, they should be extremely rare, have finicky parts that need to be replaced often, ammo should be extremely hard to find, it should weigh you down, and occupy your backpack slot if you're not holding it in your hands. Given the setting of the game, the inclusion of US and other international weapons only really makes sense if the story from ArmA 2 is relevant to the lore of this game as I always imagined it has. If that's the case, a few American .50 cal sniper rifles would likely be in country and possible to find. Russians also have their own anti-material rifles and these should be more common though still extremely rare. They would be cool to find, and very powerful, but also incredibly impractical to use. Such items would likely be most effectively used by larger groups of players who would want a weapon effective at stopping vehicles from a distance as using a bullet on a player would just be a waste. A sole survivor or small group would have no need for it.

Already in the game, the Mosin equipped with a long range scope is plenty accurate and powerful enough to serve as your go to anti-personal sniper rifle. And to say that the Mosin is not a military sniper rifle is a disgrace to it's heritage. It served admirably in WW2 in conditions that one could argue are much worse than the zombie apocalypse in Cherno. The same can be said of many "hunting" rifles. Many sniper rifles including today's started out hunting typical game, but have since been adopted to hunt the most dangerous game of all, man. When eventually implemented you'll have plenty of hunting and sniper rifles that should serve you just fine. If you truly are a good sniper, you'll be just as good with a Mosin as an AS50 when shooting at human targets.

Thats really not the point, during mod development multiple times even it was said the SA would not be a mil sim, and such highgrade mil weps would not be put in the game. Why people keep asking about them being put in though is beyond me.

There is a better possibility that a lmg is drop and forgotten by the military then a 50c sniper rifle.

I'm only looking at this in a fiktion way if the outbreak would happen.

Lmg's certainly are much more common as essentially every fire-team typically has at least one. So I'd say it is extremely believable that you'd be able to find one eventually in a zombie apocalypse. I'd dare say it'd only be slighter harder to find than assault rifles, and a bit easier than DMR's.

People seem to be combining/conflating the term Sniper Rifle with Anti-Material Rifle.  I am fine with Sniper rifles in a game like this but not Anti-Material Rifles.

CZ550, M24, SVD, an even the DMR (now that it is confirmed there will not be NVGs in SA to be used with it) are ok but when you put in the M107 & AS50 anti-material rifles it renders the vehicles useless.  Given how everything from eating canned food to performing blood transfusions are now more difficult then they were in the mod I think it is safe to assume getting vehicles up and running will also be more difficult then in the mod.  If an Anti-Material rifle could destroy any vehicle in 1 hit as it could in the mod it would demolish any point to the vehicles themselves.

Remember people, there were military bases littering the landscape even before the zombies hit - so military grade weapons should be part of the game.  I don't think in the same variety the mod had (I would like to see much less), but they will be there.

And we all knew what the OP meant when he said sniper rifles, people don't have to get all technical about the word usage here.

Because every military base stores the full range of military equipment. Right?

_______

The OP admitted to wanting anti-material rifles. I think it's safe to assume he meant anti-material from the get-go but even if not, he has showed avid support for them being added still so it's relevant.

Sniper rifles will be added, we already have the Mosin. Once this was pointed out the OP tried to justify the addition of .50 cals. Specifically .50 cals.

Even then, why would Chernarus have high-end western/NATO weapons? It makes more sense for the likes of the KSVK to be here than the AS50 or M107.

I have a feeling the OP wouldn't much enjoy the KSVK though because it uses a PSO scope and doesn't have different levels of magnification, which he said he was looking for in these rifles.

I think we all expect the SVD to show up at some point which will serve just as well. This thread isn't about that though, which can be seen on page 1.

Yea and those military weapons will consist of ak47s ak 74s and maybe some svds.

Not m4s, scar hs, fn 2000s or any of the other stupidly exotic and rare weapons people on the forums seem to suggest.

Easy way to solve this is to just include civilian weapons at first make them prevalent then slowly trickle in subtle military weapons that make sense.

My goal for today is to NOT become unconscious, and to find a Mosin and mount an optic on it.

Hell, Simo Hayha apparently had no problem killing tons of Russians with it. I'm fine with that...

If you want to be like Simo Häyhä you'll lose the scope. He only used iron sights. ;) Edited by Foxyy

Yes.

Instead of M249s, maybe an RPK 74 or RPD, preferably the RPK. the thing is, suppresive fire is a HUGE factor in DayZ, becuase hundereds of bullets wizzing around you makes you think twice about trying to snipe someone. i've found that the M4 With a 60-round makes for a great automatic rifle though.

I think sniper rifles should be extremly rare, and include something like this; SVDs, FPKs, M21s and the rarest, most accurate, M24.

but .50s are pretty OP, unless you can only find single rounds. a .50 round should be almost as rare as the gun itself, so people chose their targets instead of poping every fresh spawn they see.

and, it should be the KSVK, and not be able to mount any high-x scopes, making it only really good against vehicles, IF it were added (which it probably shouldn't be)

Adding a scope to an enfield does not make it a sniper rifle. There is a difference between a military sniper and a hunting rifle.

It was in WWII,still gets the job well done!

Funny that you mention the m24 and consider it to be the rarest.

P1180671-900x601.jpg

that is a Remington 700 the 2nd most popular gun in the world.

Estimates say there are over 10 million of these guns in circulation.

The m24 and m40 rifles are basically remington 700s chambered in .308 built to the specifications that the USMC and US Army wanted.

The remington 700 your average joe buys for 500 dollars is just as accurate as the m24 and m40.

the range is less though on the civilian version, again numerous times its been said the sa would not be a milsim, so anti-matter rifles, lmgs, rpgs, etc etc arent very likely going to be in the game this is apparently a difficult pill for some to swalow

Although the $9000 price tag does include some differences... M24 doesn't make sense anyways and there are tons of sense-making bolt-action rifles that can do the exact same job with the exact same effectiveness in-game, so no M24 please.

Mosin

High Powered Scope

And there are probably a large number of weapons that simply aren't added yet, they just added a new one the other day didn't they?

I think they added a .357 revolver.

Range would be identical its the exact same rifle in the exact same chambering. m24 is just an remington 700 with a few minor differences base of the weapon is still the civilian hunting rifle that millions of people world wide have.

I agree. M24 would make little sense in dayz. A remington 700 that a farmer was using as a hunting rifle would be far more plausible.

I'd like to see some 22's  it doesn't get any more civilian than that.  maybe a marlin model 60, or 10/22 with a scope and no recoil even with lower damage it would be very effective in semi auto mode against anything

heck yeah .22 was by Vietcongs to handicap a platoon it will kill, but till brake some joints even more

Trust me, i know. but in Chernarus? i don't know about that. and anyway, i meant a super-hyped up military version with a high-grade scope. your "average joe" can't usaully get those at every gun shop.

a M700 really needs to be a civillian weapon too, though the older, wooden-stocked versions.
