OrLoK 16185 Posted December 26, 2013 Why is the day and night cycle on a 24 hour cycle like real life? Or is it turned off currently? Most people play the game at the same time everyday, after work, or on the weekend. They should experience a day night cycle in game that is on around a 1 hour timer. That way we have a chance to experience surviving at night, making a campfire, keeping warm etc.merged
enforcer1975 1111 Posted December 26, 2013 Yes thats true but currently in dayz you can increase your gamma and brightness double over what you can in most other games. Uhm I see youre a fan of looking at a black screen being able to only distinguish the silhouettes of trees and buildings against the night sky, which btw is FILLED with stars and even if the moon was down youd have much better visibility. And I dont know if youve noticed but when the moon goes down even with both gamma and brightness maxed all you see is pitch black except again the silhouettes of things against the sky, which again is FILLED with stars. Dunno if youve ever been outside of a city, but yeah in a clear night even without the moon and no light polution you can see much better than this... Maybe you live too close to one because it's dark out here on the fields at my place...
twinturbonet (DayZ) 294 Posted December 26, 2013 merged I had to go through great lengths to find what thread you merged this with. Lol. I tried to use the link in the notifications drop down, but since it's been moved, it gave me an error. I then went to your profile, checked your posts, hit CTRL-F to find, and typed in day and night... boom, found it. Thank you sir, for the adventure! :beans:
ZEIrage 17 Posted December 26, 2013 yeap all night is stupid, if u want to implement it make it cycle every 8 hours or so, its really annyoing going out with stupid flashlight when u see crap even with it, in real life u would see at least something if there was moon outside, its not absolute darkness omg. artechoke 1 Posted December 27, 2013 Seriously? You all are still having this asinine discussion? Let me make this easy for everyone so we can stop talking about this already. How to find out if the server is day or night:Step 1. Open the server list.Step 2. Look at the map name.Step 3. Find the "z" in the dayz portion of the map name.If it's a big Z = night time. If it's a little z = day time. Step 4. Flood the daytime servers. Now could we please have a mod or Rocket reiterate this so it can be stickied and we don't have to keep merging countless threads? Thank you.
dirtynorf 0 Posted December 27, 2013 I don't like the sound of the real time day/night cycle nor 24/7 day (or night for the vampires) servers. The idea of 6 hour day, 6 hour night is good then wherever you live in the world you should be able to get a different amount of day and night (say you return at 3pm and you're 3 hours into dark, you have three left and then about 3/4 hours of day) but you could return home at the same time the next day and have 3 hours of day left and then dark starts. Plus the gamma settings are just stupid, now night isn't "dark" it's "kill your eyes for 12 hours of the day, most likely the majority of the time you are playing it". accurize 10 Posted January 5, 2014 Here's a simple way to find yourself a 24/7 daytime server if you want one...
Cydone 41 Posted January 6, 2014 Night is nice, but some nights at least should be "lighter" with moon light. The pitchblack nights are unreal, and only happens a few nights a month because of the moon irl. I love the dusk though has a great feel to it. I would prefer a shorter cycle. 12 hours darkness is harsh.. In the summermonths of the northern hemispheres it hardly gets dark, just less bright.. go alittle south and you have 4 hour nights, where the darkest is never pitch black. The darkness of the night in Dayz is similar the longest winter day of the far north. Hardly realistic, given the fact that its summer/autumn in game. Lancer 2-2 14 Posted January 23, 2014 See I don't think it should be a choice where you can just hop between servers too stay in daylight, that defeats a lot of the survival aspects, in truth I also wish there was a way to prevent people from just cranking up the gamma to get around it. I think a day\night cycle of 6 hours would be best. That way even if you play at the same time each day, every days you get the opposite of what you had before. This way people who always play late at night will get to play in daylight and vice versa The only thing I hate about the night which is why I hope the cycle is not a full 12 hours is so I can see the graphics in all their glory. But if your playing DayZ with 24/7 day your not playing dayz, may as well just add a gun and unlimited food and drink so you can play what you really want which is COD with zombies. P.S. The you is not meant as you specifically more of a global you for all those who would want 24/7 day There is. As much as I don't like the idea of a console feature helping a PC game, but in this case I suggest removing the Gamma and Brightness from the graphics settings. Instead we should have one setting which we set when launching the game for the first time. The one where we adjust a slider until the symbol is barely visible. firemedic 7 Posted January 23, 2014 There is.As much as I don't like the idea of a console feature helping a PC game, but in this case I suggest removing the Gamma and Brightness from the graphics settings.Instead we should have one setting which we set when launching the game for the first time. The one where we adjust a slider until the symbol is barely visible.I'd be fine with that if the night was anywhere remotely accurate on the default settings. Sadly it isn't yet and its a huge obstacle. I don't see an issue with people wanting to play all day or all night versions. Its still a video game. Until is no longer an option allowed, people are going to want it. And when something isn't allowed or not included people will post their thoughts/rants/opinions/rage/secret family recipes and whatever else floats their boat. Nobody should have to agree 100% with everyone else. If it happens then it does and some people will be happier but everyone will have a choice on how they play which is fantastic. I love all the back and forth that come out of this like people actually have the say all of what's going to be versus the person they're countering in the forum. That's not directed at anyone personally just a general statement for just about everything I've seen on here. I'm just gonna enjoy the game in whatever way its going to let me. samadhi 0 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) Please don't take this as the general players view. This is a noob view.I played Epoch for several months under the team UN. a Helpful team for survivors who killed bandits and helped friendlies Me and my team always prefer a real time server (even though i work a 9-5) I find it so much more immersive real time, time, is server time, and nights last 10hrs or whatever., days 14 hrs, keep it realistic. dont start servers with 24 .7. day. And to stop the gamma problem use the Arma 3 style stencil lighting which stops people gamma cheats. One love, good luck survivors, Agent Neo, veteran day z playerI suspect quite a few people would complain about breaking immersion if the day/night cycle was no longer real time. However, I find it interesting that there seems to be a shortage of people crying about immersion/realism when it comes to your character starving to death two hours after his or her last meal... I too prefer realism but it doesn't appear that it works both ways. It seems to me that the current paradigm holds that if it's a perk (daytime, guns, etc) we need to preserve realism and not make things too easy but when its a drawback (dying of hunger or thirst the same day youv'e eaten and consumed water), well that's just part of the DayZ experience. Maybe it's the fervent libertarian in me but I think that if we are going for utmost realism with DayZ, it should be that way across the board. Meaning I should be able to survive for approximately two weeks without food and a few days without water. That, or we need to be ok with occasionally sacrificing realism and immersion when practicality takes precedence. Just a thought. Also, just for the record, I prefer night play. Caboose187 (DayZ) 3036 Posted January 26, 2014 The only thing i've noticed is bad servers. Seriously, why is there so many 24/7 day only servers that reset every 2-4 hours? Answer: Scrubs who don't know how to play. If it isn't players server hopping, it's terrible hosters who can't hack the challenge of DayZ.
