Hetstaine in Standalone confirmed

Why can't they just release it now?

I'll play it. I don't even care about the glitches and bugs and shit like that.

Give. Me. Stand Alone.

You guys allowed to give us anymore info on the game?

Just my opinion here but it almost seems like a lot of "headache" features are being added to the game. For example, not only do you have to find food but you have to find a can opener to eat the food (also taking up another inventory spot). And we have to worry about about character getting tired also shoe degredation, etc?

Things like this seem like they would be more of a burden and headache to worry about rather than a challenge.

I also noticed there were very few zombies.

Sorry to seem so harsh.

I would love to discuss these things if you guys are able.

We can only discuss the things that are publicly available.  Since everything you're talking about is from that video, they are up for discussion.

What you mention as headache features can also be seen as survival features.  Yes, you have a can of food, but you cannot open it, now you need to find a can opener.  Of course it would take up an inventory spot, those decisions are part of the challenge.  You saw a message about the character getting tired and rocket has also mentioned shoe degradation, yes.  Once you find some things, you have to replace them after awhile or face the consequences.  what happens (irl) if you buy a  raincoat and you get a huge rip in it.  You have to buy another one or fix it.  Same idea here.  Its not just gear up and now you're bored like it is in the mod.  You have to make some tough decisions, do I take this xyz, or should I place it safe and use my inventory for abc.  Same as in the mod, though now your decisions have greater bearing.  How many times in the mod did you pick up a frag grenade?  I, for one, would use that spot for something more useful.  Same here.

The idea of SA is that the ultimate challenge is survival and your body plays as much an antagonist as the zombies and other players.  Now you have as an additional focus keeping your character warm and dry and well fed and healthy (like you would in real life).

Hetstaine was there as target practise for the M4.

We stripped him down to his underwear, gave him a compass and told him to run north - hence his question in the chat.

That si all i am there for..to be used and abused

Thanks for the reply klesh. I have no idea how these aspects flow in the game so I figured I might as well ask. Its better to ask these questions now than when the SA comes out.

Really if they just fix some of the more glitchy aspects of the game we would have an awesome SA imo. I guess imo the mod is so good any change for the SA scares me lol.

So  the main question is are these new features good, bad or not much different?

In reply to a few of the questions in this topic...

No, testers cannot give any information on the game. Everyone had to sign an NDA (non-disclosure agreement).

The game hasn't been released yet because of server performance issues. Once these are sorted it will more than likely be deemed ready for alpha release.

There are so few zombies because of the server performance issues.

Didnt mean to complain. Really I just wanted a description of how the new survival aspects made the game feel. klesh gave me a very good response and I would love to hear more from him and everyone else.

I hate to have made my post seem so critisizing but I know myself and many others have put much thought into how the new gear degredation and eveything else will effect the game. What better place to ask these questions than right here where people are actually playing the game?

I tried to think of a way to word the question so it wouldnt come off as so negative and I guess I it didnt succeed lol.

Another question: Is there any specific Mod in which you could describe the SA as being most similar to?

No mod. Just the very first few months of DayZ.

What exactly do you testers do?

Is it just log in a play, report issues, or is there a more logical approach where you all log in together and test?

It depends.

Obviously we can't go into specifics but most of the time we are just 'meat in the room' as Rocket puts it to put some load on the server - we aren't specifically ordered to check specific things so most of the time it's just try and play it normally and document and report any bugs we find so the developers can get them sorted.
