Will dayz ever be a survival game?

Recommended Posts

I mean, yes it can be i you want it to be and find the right server, but otherwise it is just full of kids who gear up and kill everyone for the sake of killing as it is the only thing people know how to do in video games. I fear the standalone will just end up being a few people who hoard the server and then set out and kill all new spawns.

No matter what they do, they will never be able to remove the team deathmatch element that people have brought to this game. Hell, the zombies I doubt will ever be a problem, once those bandits have killed all the zombies what will they kill up until the next restart? all the other players.

Personally I doubt dayz will work that well, at least on the public servers.

How is that not survival? Don't get me wrong, bandits who kill fresh spawns are the worst kinds of losers but its still survival. Unless you mean peaceful survival which will never happen because we live in a world where its me first. All you need in any game is for the ability to exist for a person to be a selfish asshole and most people will flock to that ability. You can find some cool people but don't ever expect a game where anyone can act like they want to be filled with nice people.

DayZ is a multiplayer game, and sadly that means dealing with other gamers. Equally sadly, there are an awful lot of gamers out there who have been raised on 'if it moves, click on it until it stops moving' games, and simply don't know how to do anything else. However, that's not to say that all gamers are like that. The trick is to find a server/community that mostly plays the way you want to. Believe me, they're out there.

However, I'd also argue the merits of 'everything in moderation' - whilst I won't disagree that there's a little too much KoS in DayZ at the moment, I'd also suggest that if it went away completely, DayZ would be a weaker experience for it. There's a certain rush when you spot another player in close proximity and they're heading in your direction - are they friendly? are they hostile? can you find somewhere to hide before they see you? If you completely remove KoS from the game, that rush of uncertainty disappears, and I for one would miss it tremendously.

May I ask how long you have been playing this mod?

i think its possible, the new features they are adding should help with kos.  but it depends how it works.
for example in the standalone the new item damage feature is explained that if you shoot someone in the chest, you can damage/break the items in their jacket....but whats to stop a person shooting someone in the head and then taking all their stuff? or robbing them of their stuff, and then killing them anyway.
i hope that when most people kill, there will be a good reason, such as stealing supplies, or because they pose a threat to you, your camp, or your friends. and not "just because.."

dont blame the kids grown ups do it too, its fun theres no endgame on vanilla, what else was there to do befor the days of tents and hoarding vehicles in the berenzino hangars???

anyway dayz will never be a proper survival game unless you count surviving KoSers, its a mod for arma 2 A military simulation game NOT A SURVIVAL GAME so yeah, Dayz SA probably will though but mod, never especially with its history, mods and hackers...

Yes

Not the mod or its derivatives.

Maybe I have high expectations of the SA but I suspect it will bring back the atmosphere (and retain it longer) that seems to dissolve the more you play the mod.

When you play on unregulated PvP servers, sure, that's the experience you'll get. What you need is a nice whitelisted PvE server.

i considered joining a pve server, but reckon id get bored quickly as in dayz you need that danger of other people, just not to the extent that the mod has come to now

That's why we have the mission system, bandit AI and 5 bandit bases to raid.

I'd hope so... But when I see the attitudes of the community (people that don't visit the forums... MOSTLY) I lose a lot of faith in the game ever being about survival. I'm starting to think it'll be about PvP just like the mod was.

However, the game is what you make of it. If you choose to play the survivor aspect, then yeah, the game will be about survival.

Tbh with you, I don't get why people complain about this all the time, most of the people that say this stuff are those people that shoot on sight and treat it like cod, if your serious about it, step up and change it, get some people and get on that server and crush the poop out of those people!!!!! Don't just talk... Walk.... Stop complaining and do it! Dayz wouldn't be fun nor would it be dayz without stupid bandits! The more of them the more for me to kill and embarrass!

Hello everyone.

I'm not sure if it is against the rules to promote servers here.

But recently a friend and i have started a DayZ Epoch server.

We are striving to make people get the optimal and authenthic experience with DayZ.

Currently as discussed in this topic, DayZ is more about killing other players than working together to survive.

But we have made some rules to prevent KOS, while it still isn't only a PvE server.

Right now the server is still in its early stage so to say. We do not have many players yet.

If this sound interesting please headover to our post on the Private Hive section here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/151913-aveni-jakobb987s-dayz-epoch-1025-chernarus-54-slots-veteran-80-vehicles-side-chaton-gmt-4-hosted-by-dayzst/

We are open for suggestions about improvements to rules, plugins etc.
